i've heard something like this before. that animals only appear to have emotions. HOwever, couldn't that be said for humans as well. in all honesty, from my personal opinion animals do have feelings. They even have their own personality. I mean, most dogs and cats i meet are loving and caring and wouldn't hurt a human on purpose. i makes me wonder if humans are the ones that don't have emotion. At least, for the animal abusers.

We got a new Parakeet here at my house. Right now because It dosent know any of us its pretty scared of any contact, while it still loved the previous owner.

Although if none of us are in the room it starts to cry out untill someone comes back.

Same concept with dogs and cats. Animals have emotion no denying it.

Even if they didn't being cruel to an animal is just wrong. :/

I think all animals have feelings, but to different extents - eg. A dolphin would have more complex feelings than a worm because of its obvious superior intelligence.

    Of course they do.
My dog shows happieness, sadness, playfulness, and anger.
And my best friends cat got ticked off at her and scratched her arm like 5 times.

Animals have instincts and they use them as their way of surival and how they can recognize life with their intelligence brought up by their ancestors. Sometimes you can tell an animal's emotions by their body langauge, ears, by their whining or at times the expressions on their face. So of course animals have feelings, it would impossible if they didn't becasue you can just see it.

    I think they do.

They are living beings and I'm sure all living beings have some sort of emotion.
I'm not saying to go hug a tree but,
whenever I accidently drop my dog she growls and wimpers..she also avoids me for the rest of the day.

So that's why I think they have feelings.

Of course animals have feelings but it only seems to be mammals because insects, bugs and aracnids brains are completely programmed towards survival and fish brains hardly have enough brain cells to survive and they use those brain cells to power there gills.Mammals other than humans feel emotions even if they aren't as acute as a humans.Thats why if you crush a bug it's ok because they don't have a life for they are only programmed to survive while if you step on a cat or something it is wrong because they unlike lesser animals they feel anger, sadness and agony like us even if not as much.

Every animal must have feelings.otherwise they don't have to eat.

They sure do. Why else would they love or hate you? Also, how else would they know when to eat or relieve themselves eh?

Dogs have feelings, they even have dreams, and are the only animals that could cry. I'm not sure about other animals, maybe seals could have feelings too.

Chimps could also have feelings, or maybe they're just stupid.
Y'know, they keep throwing poo at you:rockdover:

Most chimps that seem smart are just trained.

Animals are certainly capable of emotional response and the physiological arousal that accompanies it, but I wouldn't say that these are feelings. By definition, feelings are reflective attitudes that are private, subjective, and part of a theory of mind. Animals unfortunately don't have the capacity for a theory of mind; a dog can have loyalty and can certainly feel sadness, but it doesn't distinguish itself as an individual nor does it distinguish you as an individual (you're a crucial part of its dynamic emotional system, not John or Jane).
