Digital Persona Saga - Mask of Longing

Hattori gently held Minato as he was deep in thought.

 

"What are you thinking about?"

 

"I was just thinking if Cara would be alright on her own."

 

Cara decided, "Where is Orphan? Zalera, I've made up my mind." Zalera moved in front of her, halting her agitated pace, "...Between worlds...you have to die to see Orphan again..." Cara hated her path. "Then give me a weapon, Zalera!" Zalera shook his skull head, "...I cannot...I refuse to allow my mistress to kill herself to end misery..."

 

Hattori let go of Minato and walked outside.

 

Cara reached a little town the further she walked. Her anger at Zalera mounting. "Why not Zalera! Doesn't Lesa deserve to live the rest of her life in peace!? Would you rather have my sister die!?" Zalera let her anger roll off him, "...No...but I don't want you to disappear forever too..." "Don't be a child Zalera!" she snapped at him.

 

Hattori took to the air and flew for a bit.

 

Cara snarled at Zalera, "If you refuse to give me a weapon, then I'll find one! I won't let this thing kill my sister! I'll end misery! With, or without your help!" Zalera felt sad for making her angry, "...Please...my lady...I do not wish to have to restrain you from hurting yourself...Orphan requires a large amount of strength to kill...He won't die that easily..."

Cara ignored Zalera and searched for something to do away with herself.

 

Hattori flew over where Cara was, not noticing her down there.

 

Zalera noticed Hattori fly over them, his whisper reaching out to his mind, "...Hattori...convince her life is worth living to the fullest....you've missed us..."

 

Hattori turned around and landed next to Cara.

 

Cara willed her voice not to hold any of her anger in it, "Hattori? Why are you here?" She shot a pointed glance at Zalera who remained still, his deathly gaze fixed on Cara.

 

"Zalera wanted me to convince you not to kill yourself. I don't know if there's another way for you to go about this, but if there is, I suggest you find it first. If there is no other way, then I'll put you down myself."

 

Cara gritted her teeth, "What other way could there be for killing a creature that lives in between worlds? I have to die to even meet Orphan anyways. Damn you Zalera!" Zalera projected a movie into their minds, "...Let me explain..."

The dirt path fell away leaving them floating over a bright glow of green, "The life stream has always protected the life here. It takes life and gives it. Every persona and human was born from it. Orphan was brought here by the gods who created that life stream, as were you Cara. Though thousands of years ago, you were a different person. That first year you and Orphan were here, he was your persona and I was too. Orphan was created by taking the seraph of life, Eden, and a half human like Hattori named Bartandelous. His evil and Eden's good mixed with the single persona of the gods forming Orphan, a superior being to personas and humans. Though why it exists between worlds still eludes me, I do know that if the life stream were to be polluted, it would rise from the dimension between and destroy the world, believing this world to be...doomed."

 

"If there's absolutely no other way, then I have no choice." Hattori said solemnly.

 

Zalera moved between the two of them before Cara could willingly throw herself on his scythe. "...Let me finish..."

"Nearly a hundred years ago, the girl sent to this world with Orphan was given a pendent. Said pendent was blessed with the gods will and would grant the girl any wish. Though she did not find any wish great enough to use, she kept the pendent and each time she died, was reborn with it in her hand."

Cara opened her mouth and Zalera shushed her, "...Now only your living relative...may wish upon the pendent...you were burried with it, the gods believe you to be dead so the wish made by you would be nullified..."

 

"So she can get the pendant and have her sister use it for her?"

 

Cara sighed and flopped on the ground, "Lesa would never wish anything like that for me. She wouldn't wish for me to be able to meet Orphan so I can sacrifice my soul to kill it." Zalera faded away, with what he had to say said, he was tired.

 

Hattori sighed.

"That's the only other way for you to do this."

 

Cara stood and brushed off her pants, "Well then I have a lot of explaining to do to my sister. Do, uh, you know how to get back to my world? I still have to dig up my grave," she shuddered, "And then explain a really long history to Lesa."
