Digimon Adventure English and Japanese Comparisons

I thought this might interest you guys. To the left is the Japanese version, and to the right is the American version.

There are some areas where I fixed the grammar to make it make sense. I've also added my own comments after each episode.

Episode 5 - Kabuterimon's Electro Shocker:

Honestly, I don't think that naked scenes should have been removed. It was just showing their butts and nothing more. I mean, in the SpongeBob episode with Kevin, who SpongeBob and Patrick are fans of, when they get to Jellyfish Fields, SpongeBob opens his "trunk" so the others can get their gear, and his butt shows. There are also episodes of Rugrats that showed their butts.

Regarding Leomon, why remove the second picture in the US version? I mean, they show him pulling his sword out, ready to hurt Tai, and that's just as violent as grabbing this throat and squeezing him against the wall.

Episode 9 - Subzero Ice Punch:

They remove some of the fighting scenes... why?

 

In the US, they remove fighting scenes, because they believe it will have a negative effect on kids. Japan, on the other hand, rarely censor their anime.

For example, in an anime known as High School Of The Dead (HOTD), a teacher jumps out of a window and falls head first onto the ground. In the Japanese, original version, you see the head hit the ground and splatter, while in the American version, it fades to black.

So yeah, in the US, there are some (stupid) censor rules, which is why they have to, (I think) due to legislation, censor.

 

My God, they create a lot of shows with fighting of their own, and they don't worry about those causing negative influences?

Besides, parents should teach their kids not to imitate things they see on TV. The rest of the people shouldn't have to suffer because of stupid parents that don't teach their kids the difference between TV and reality.

 

ive seen both versions and i have to say in the dub version its like they cant go 2 seconds without making a joke or commenting on something

 

Everyone knows that the US is number one in double morals. As far as teaching their kids about imitating things they see on TV, now that's an entirely different discussion. (Which I of course agree with)

Try Pokemon. They cut out sooo much. They even interchanged Onigiri with Sandwich. I didn't know the word onigiri, but i knew it was a rice ball. And it always confused me when they called it a sandwich. because they weren't holding sandwiches. they were holding rice balls.
also, james w/ boobs = cut episode. man with gun = cut episode. yet kids get toy guns.
