In the city where I live they have discovered an archaeological find that is of great significance and dates back to the Bronze age. This makes it about the same age as Stone Henge. Unfortunately it happens to be where they are building a new road. Much to public disgust they are going to bury it and build this road over it.

Here's a link to the story.

Is it right that irreplaceable historical treasures like this should be destroyed in the name of progress? I don't think it is personally. This site is unique and holds a lot of valuable information that is important for us as a culture to understand our heritage. Instead the Powers-that-be want a new road. The site will be destroyed even if they bury it carefully as the area contains a large industrial estate with a lot of huge lorries. Possibly unique and as yet undiscovered historical treasure will be lost to the monster of progress.

Are you serious?! Those idiots want to build a road over it!? That's the stupidest thing ever! For all they know, it could be something extrememly important to the history of mankind. Especially if it's as old as stonehenge.

I agree totally. None of the public knew anything about it. We have no idea what's there and everything is hushed up. A good example of corruption by 'public servants' I guess. There are other places to build the road but the almighty pound is destroying something unique.

I hope there are a lot of people who are going to protest about this. Who know it could hold something big about human past that we don't even know about, why can they make the road around it and not over it? If they do that, then people can drive past and see what's there.

Protests are already starting up. This could be destroyed and future generations will miss out on everything it could show us. The weird thing is that this city prides itself on it's history. Ironic really. History is the main tourist attraction here.

That really blows. I hope that enough people protest and lobby because that is just horrible. They should at least let a team of archaeologists in there to discern some things before just uprooting everything. If it's as old as Stone Henge there is a time and culture that a lot of people don't know too much about. I can see the point of wanting to build a road if it makes travel easier, but there are times when some things at least need to be halted. I wish you guys luck on seeing this doesn't happen.

What makes this site any different than any other that they think they can destroy it? How do they figure they have the authority to do that?
    I sincerely hope they fail.

The sad part is that they probably have it.
