I think it's a bit of both. There are some events that are meant to happen and people we are meant to encounter, but everything else is filled in by what our actions bring about.

I consider destiny what you do now to make up your future. If someone predicts your destiny, their liars. Only what you do now can predict your destiny.

Destiny is not written. Its what you make of it. I think I am destined for great things, and I can prove I'm making it, not following any cosmic instruction manuel.

But then again, mankind can't prove it isn't written until we perfect the time machine.

I laughed so hard at this. How can you prove it?

...So? Predestination believes that whatever choices you make are the choices you were meant to make.

Written and made destiny are possible, same as the multiple dimensions theory, it says that your life is laid out before you by the choices you make. For example, at the moment, typing away I have a destiny in front of me, continue typing, go to bed, read a book, listen to music, etc, all different outcomes dependent on my choices, my free will.

If I was to talk about 'it depends on the position of the "timeline"' I basically mean that our destinies may already have been written, however at the moment it seems we can still amke different choices.

I think our outcome just depends on our individual and collective choices.

Forgive me if I haven't explained it well, i'm a bit rusty at discussions.

I do not believe in anything being predetermined. I see no reason to believe in it and if such a thing existed, it would seem extremely flawed to me. Are everyone's abilities put to maximum use? I doubt it.

i think its actually a bit of both; our fate is set out and planned to a certain extent, but we have the power to change/alter it as we wish while we go along... its a good way to think and its worked out for me so far :D

    That's what I was thinking.
Fate has a general outline for you with a somewhat set outcome.
How you reach that outcome is completely up to you.
But the outline is ONLY FOR YOU.
Someone else's outline can meet yours and end up changing both of your outcomes.

I don't believe in set paths that we are forced to take. The paths we walk in life can be changed drastically with just a few simple actions early on, and altered futher still by both our choices and the choices of those around us. If these paths were meticulously crafted for us, who by? God? If that is the case, then why are some people doomed to a bad life before they are born? Is our free will just an illusion?

I don't believe in God, and it follows that I don't believe in fate.
