Demons and Heroes

Twilight nodded. "Well thank you for being a gentalman in the face of danger, my love."

 

"I would never treat you any other way. You are very precious to me."

Gharanth led her gently through the room at a steady pace. "I want us to always be happy."

 

"And we will." She let him lead her, trusting him entirely.

 

He noted that they had reached the other side of the room. Stepping through the doorway a slab slid across behind them. "You were magnificent through all that. I am so proud of you."

 

She went red. "I wouldn't have been able to get through without you there." She mumbled, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

 

"See, I am evil. I led you through without you realising the spiders were there."

 

"Tell me how that is evil, Gharanth. I think it's good that you did so."

 

"If I was honest I would have told you what was happening. I guess I will never shake my sneaky side."

 

Twilight laughed. "Well I like your sneaky side. You didn't tell me to protect me. I think saving my life levels out the fact that you had to stall for a few moments."

 

"Ok then. You can tell me what's next. Lets see what your tracking skills are like and your sense of danger."

 

"Fine then." She scratched her chin. Looking at a large stone wall in front of them where ruins were carved. "I think it's a riddle." She pointed at the word in english above the door that read RIDDLE. She giggled. "Do you have anyclue what it says?"

 

"I can speak 43 languages but gibberish isn't one of them. Only kidding, it says 'riddle' and I guess that if we don't solve it we die."

 

"Perfect..." Twilight sighed. "I'm not the best with riddles and such but im definatly not the worst."

 

"Well we might as well go on and see what the riddle is. I am reasonable as long as they aren't too complex. It will be worth seeing."

 

Twilight watched it for a moment, scanning the writing.

'You can have me but cannot hold me;
Gain me and quickly lose me.
If treated with care I can be great,
And if betrayed I will break.'

She scratched her chin. "Have any ideas, Gharanth?"

 

"Well my first reaction is a heart. You can have my heart but not hold it. Quickly win it and lose it as easily. A good heart is a great heart and a heart breaks if it is betrayed."

 

Twilight smiled. "You're answer sounds right." She looked at the doorway, wondering what would happen if it wasn't. "Think we should give it a shot?"

 

"Sounds like a good idea. The sooner we do this the sooner we will be through."

 

Twilight nodded, walking up to stand before the door. She put the palm of her hand against the door. "Is it a Heart?"
Silence. Twilight feared the answer was wrong and braced herself, a second later, a crease appeared in the door and they inched open.

 

"It has opened so I guess that we got something right. Now to see what is inside. I hope that there are no bad surprises. I will protect you though my love."
