Demons and Heroes

Twilight managed a smile. "Is that all?"

 

"This is only the first level. Things get harder from herein. I guess this level lulls you into a false sense of security. I'm not that easily tricked though. Stay slightly behind me. This could get rough. Now lets go down that corridor before the trap resets itself."

ooc: Goodnight.

 

Twilight stayed near him, following close behind.
ooc: bye then.

 

I think we will enter the second level soon. I hate to think what that contains. I guess we will just have to find out."

 

Twilight wasn't much in the mood for talking, as if her voice would set off some trap. She made sure to step where Gharanth stepped, staying only a pace behind.

 

Gharanth suddenly spun and grabbed Twilight, sheltering her with his body. From above a trapdoor opened and snakes fell onto them. Gharanth took th poisonous bites as he flamed them as they hit the ground. In a short time it was over and he slumped to the floor. "I need to rest and heal for a short while."

 

Twilight, staring at the scored remains of the snakes, nodded, knealing down next to him and offering him her canteen.

 

Gharanth took a small sip. "Thank you. They would have killed you probably. I would never have forgiven myself. It seems that I have the role of the protector. I will take whatever is thrown at me for you."

 

"Then I guess my role will be making sure the protector doesn't get killed."

 

"As well as being my strength and my inspiration." Gharanth smiled at her and tried to get up. His legs buckled under him and he collapsed back on the floor.

 

Twilight helped him sit up. It hurt her to watch him in so much pain, although she didn't say it. "Rest as long as you need, Gharanth. Take your time."

 

"I absorbed a lot of venom so I will take a while to heal. I hate snakes, don't you? Well at least they won't attack us a second time."

Twilight nodded, looking at the smoldering creatures. She shivered. "Ugh...snakes..."

 

"Sadly I think it gets worse. There are the normal animals. The ones further in are monsters. I will endeavour to keep you safe and sound." Gharanth slowly got up. "I seem to be getting stronger again."

 

"How much of this is there?" Twilight asked almost silently. "How long does this go on?"

 

"I honestly have no certain ideas. I only know that this will be a tough test and no one has ever walked away with their life before. Of course we will be the first as no demons have ever taken the tests before."

 

Twilight smiled. "We shall indeed be the first. Shall we head onward?"

 

"That would be a good idea. How are you with 6' spiders? I know there must be some here somewhere, there always is!" Gharanth grinned and kissed her. "This will be a piece of cake. Lets see what the next slice looks like."

 

Twilight nodded. "Spider-shmider. I grew up around them. It's the snakes that had me scared, and those are now reduced to ashes."

 

"Why keep a fire demon if you don't use his skills?" Gharanth laughed. "Watch the floor. I have a feeling it is dangerous here."
