Demons and Heroes

Twilight went red a little, tucking her hair behind her ear and was embarased to see she had fallen asleep with her boots on. She smiled gentally. "Yes...it does feel like a good day...doesn't it?"

 

"There is no need to be embarrassed. You are perfectly safe with me and I would never abuse your trust. I do have a twisted form of honour."

 

"I don't find it twisted at all." She leaned up on her toes and kissed him.

 

Gharanth kissed her back and blushed. He had never thought of himself before as honourable or good. Maybe he wasn't as evil as he thought.

 

Twilight broke the kiss off gentally, seeing his face the slightest tinge of red. "Why Gharanth, You're blushing!" She smiled at him.

 

"Does that surprise you? I was thinking how you have showed me that I am not the evil monster that I like to think. I have never thought of myself as honourable or good before, but you are teaching me who I really am and who I can be. I feel that my soul is laid bare before you."

 

Twilight smiled at him. "Really? I guess we are teaching each other then." She poked him in the ribs where she knew he was ticklish.

 

Gharanth began to laugh as he was tickled. This was one of the many things he loved about Twilight was the way she made him smile inside. It was as if she could read him like a book.

 

Twilight stopped tickling him, laughing herself as she did. He looked so happy now. She didn't even have words for the feeling his happieness gave her.

 

"So this is what the future will be like" Gharanth grinned. "I see that I will have to get used to being happy on a regular basis." He kissed her cheek and held her against him, still grinning.

 

Twilight giggled, still smileing. "Being happy is easy...especially with you around."

 

"I try my best to keep you happy my lady. I want you to see that I'm not a miserable person and that I can have fun."

 

"You've already shown me that, Gharanth. You may look like a warrior but I know you have quite a big heart." She smiled. "I can feel it."

 

"Most people only judge by what they can see. Just because someone is big doesn't mean that they can always cope. Everyone assumes that only small people are delicate when we are all different, regardless of size and shape."

 

Twilight nodded. She knew that was true. The old man who had risen her had been so withered, so small. Yet he had the eyes of a fighter, someone who could teach a dragon mannors within the hour.

 

Gharanth served breakfast and began to strike camp. He carried everything so that Twilight could travel easier. Soon he was eating as well so that he would have the energy to face what was ahead.

 

"We haven't seen Aldon or Xana in a while. Where do you think they are?" She asked when breakfast was almost over.

 

"At a guess far away or where this elemental warrior legend is. I expect we will meet them again all too soon."

 

Twilight nodded, fingering the water orb in her pack, remembering Xana much too clearly for her liking.

 

"Things will get better I promise. Ask me anything you like and I'll try to answer."
