Demons and Heroes

Dameon dodged and looked over at Jecht.
"You are not interrupting, but I could use assistance," he said.

Natalie stood up and leaped for an attack on Dameon.

 

Gharanth laughed as he recovered from the shock of the cold water hitting him.

"That was close enough my love."

He then realised that the wet material of his trousers was sticking to his legs, revealing the outline of his tail, which he was so carefully hiding under his clothes. He ran and grabbed his jacket, wrapping it around himself to conceal the horrid demonic tail that he had always hated so much.

"I'm sorry... I couldn't tell you and I can't explain now. I will have to leave."

 

Twilight made a face, confused. "Did...I do something wrong?" She frowned. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean to hit you with the water. I promise not to do it again. You don't have to leave. Please." Twilight's eyes held guilt.

 

Gharanth looked horrified.

"No my love, it is nothing you did. You could never hurt me. I am the evil one who lies and hides the truth. I'm a monster who does not deserve the loving touch of one as pure as yourself. I am hideous and a freak in the eyes of the world. I leave you so that you do not suffer because of what I am."

 

Twilight felt like crying, like bursting into tears but she held them back, clentching her fists tightly. "Dont you get it? I don't care what you are! You could be a giant ape for all I care and i'd love you all the same! Why cant you understand that you leaving will hurt me more than any torture the world can offer!?"

 

"Then I will show you what I am hiding. I am ashamed of myself and I can never be what you need as I will never reach the requirements."

Gharanth tore his trousers and his tail waved free of the cloth prison.

"So here is the real monster in all his glory, the beast to your beauty. I can understand if you are disgusted by the sight of me. You won't be the first. Do not stay with me out of pity though for it will destroy both you and I. I am what you see, a creature of darkness spawned from the fires and tempered in blood."

 

Tears finally escaped her eyes and she made no movement to wipe them away. "I. Don't. Care." She bit her lip hard to keep from sobbing. The thought of Gharanth leaving was too much for her. She shook her head, trying to shake the thought from her mind.

 

Gharanth ran to her and wrapped his arms around her.

"You really don't care about my appearance at all. I do not deserve one so caring. Your heart is so pure that you can never see me as the evil I am and yet when I am with you I see the world as shining and brilliant. I was a fool to run and I should have been totally open with you."

He wrapped his tail round her waist and smiled.

"I guess I can swing from the trees openly now."

 

Twilight nodded silently, not trusting herself to speak. She burried her face into his chest, trembling slightly.
"I need you here with me, Gharanth." She whispered finally. "I need you to trust me when I tell you I love you. There is nothing in the entire world that could scare me away from you."

 

"well ok"

he shot forward punching natalie in the air in the gut sending her into the roof of the cave

"who's next?"

 

Gharanth buried his face in her hair, truly ashamed of himself.

"I would never want to hurt you but I know that I am a monster and can't bear this any more. I've been tortured and beaten, but these are nothing compared to the thought of being rejected by you. I am only a poor mortal and though I've lived longer than a lot of demons, I have a lot to learn and I don't want to walk that rest of life's weary road an outcast reviled by the purest and fairest of them all. I would rather end my own life."

 

Twilight put as little space between them as possible, afraid he'd disappear if she let him go. "Don't say that, Gharanth. Please don't say that." She remembered having the same idea back when she'd escaped from her master. She'd actually wanted to end her own life, to die, but then came Gharanth and everything had changed completely. "Gharanth..." She wimpered into his chest.

 

Gharanth held her close, realising that she was trembling. "What is it my love?" He raised her chin gently with his hand, kissing her and stroking her hair. "What are you going to tell me? Please do not hide, I would do nothing to hurt you."

 

"You...save me, Gharanth. Just by living. You save me every day. I don't know what i'd do if you left me here. I don't know how i'd live if you..."

 

"Then I won't do anything to upset you. If you want me as I am then I have nothing to hide. Maybe I am a fool. It is what is inside that really counts. No one should care about the outside. Actions are more important than appearance. I am an old fool. Can you ever forgive me?"

 

"You have nothing to forgive, Gharanth." She said weakly. "You never did."

Gharanth held her and it was as if time itself had stopped as a mark of respect to her. He was unaware of his surroundings as they faded into insignificance along with the reason they had come there in the first place. In his universe there was only the two of them with him as an insignificant little planet orbiting Twilights magnificent radiance as their sun. This was the rarest form of love, the true love that usually only existed in tales. Perhaps there really were happy endings?

"I'll kill you for that!" he yelled, running at Jecht.

 

Natalie held her arm over her stomach after the wind got knocked out of her. She coughed trying to breathe.

Dameon stood over at Natalie.
"While your boyfriend is dealing with Jecht, I will deal with you. He's got you all warmed up for me," he said putting the end of his sword at the tip of her nose.

 

He saw them out of the corner of his eye. He electrocuted Jecht and ran after Dameon.
