Demons and Heroes

"Good idea" he said.

 

She took her blades and chopped down a tree. She carved two containers very quickly and neatly.
"This was something I learned how to do when I was younger," she said then gave Cole one.

 

He took the cup and started catching fish.

 

Twilight took a breath, standing close to Gharanth. "Just tell me what to do." She said quietly.

 

"Concentrate on the element your orb controls. See it as an extension of your own body. I would use hands and gestures first so that you see what you are doing with the water. The water will obey your will. Do not fear it, but enjoy the freedom. The water will respond to you like a living thing."

He stood behind her and put his arms around her so that his hands were in front.

"Watch while I do basic manipulation of fire. The techniques are the same and the outcome should be the same if you have control of the element."

He produced a fireball and began moving it from hand to hand.

 

Twilight breathed in awe. "Wow." She whispered. "That's...it doesn't burn you?"

 

"Not at all. I was born in fire and am technically a pure blooded fire demon. I can walk into a blazing house and walk out without a scorch mark, shielding another with my body. Alas my clothes never survive so it can be a tad embarrassing. It has never stopped me in the past though. I walked into the burning house containing my family but I was too late and they were dead when I carried them out.................I guess its not such a wonderful skill after all."

 

Twilight looked up at him from her position, touching his face gentally. "You did what you could." She whispered, placing her own hands as he had and trying to concentrate on using the orb.

 

"Whatever I do in life is never enough. I am jinxed."

He moved back to let her practice and slumped against the wall.

"Ironically they burned down the house to kill me."

 

Twilight had a ball of water in her palm but it splashed uselessly on the ground when he had spoken.
She turned to him with concerned eyes. "You do plenty, Gharanth. You just caught the sharp end of the sword. Thing's are getting better and they will continue to do so. I'll make sure of it." It was a promise Twilight would keep forever.

 

He got up with a smile on his face. "Nice first try. Now ignore my sad ramblings and try again." Hefting a huge container of water he grinned. "Lets see what you can do with that."

 

Twilight swallowed hard, breathing as she streatched her arm out like he had showed her. The water lifted up out of the container in a stream as if it were a rope. She chewed her lip as she moved it through the air but she panicked, dropping the stream of water onto the ground by accident.

 

Gharanth ran over and hugged her.

"You are doing brilliantly. I grew up with my fire powers so I've had a lot of time to practice. Most people can't even move the element. Just believe in yourself. I believe in you."

He stepped back and refilled the container from the well.

 

Twilight nodded, drawing the water up again. It was easier the third time. Not as stressful. She through the water high into the air and let it land back in the container. She smiled, turning and hugging Gharanth tightly. "Thank you Gharanth." She turned back to the water again. "What now?" She was eager to do more.

 

"I'm going to stand opposite you some distance off. You have to hit me with the water."

He stripped down to his shirt and trousers, removing his boots. He looked down at his taloned feet and hoped that they would not scare Twilight. The fates forbid that she found out that he had a tail.

 

Twilight noticed the talons on his feet but ignored the fact with a shrug of her shoulders. There was nothing that she found repulsive about Gharanth, not the red of his eyes and definatly not a few talons.
"Ready?" She asked, looking up at him.

 

"I'm ready when you are."

He grinned and cast a fireball, holding it as if to throw it, though he had no intention of following through. The fireball would give Twilight something to aim for.

 

Twilight saw him light the fireball and drew a ball of water up, she drew back her palm and tossed it hard. It sailed over Gharanth's head a good five feet away.
She made a face. "Hold on. Let me try again." She called, drawing another orb of water.

 

Gharanth stood still. Targeting was always difficult to begin with. He played with the fireball, making it an obvious target.

"Ready when you are."

 

Natalie collected fresh water in the container she made. She smiled as she watched Cole catch fish. She put the container on the bank of the river, and slowly stepped in the water. She put her hands in the water, and quickly caught a small fish in her hands. She walked over to Cole and put it in the cup and smiled.
