Death Note: The Past Future

L smiled childishly as he reached in and took a cake.

 

Mello laughed slightly as he took a chocolate bar from the box as well, then passing back another one to Juliet. Not bothering to look back at her though, just handing it back to her over his shoulder as he held his bar between his teeth.

 

L had turned his back to Mello and was walking back to the couch...

 

Mello sighed slightly, he was trying so hard this time. After the choas of the last vist at someone's birthday when Mello had attacked Near suddenly and for no reason that L or any of the other adults could understand or explain. He'd made an idiot of himself, and he needed to fix that. Of course, it was always easier when the person you were trying to make up too wanted anything to do with you...

 

"You know Mello..." L stasrted between a mouthful of cake. "You should really find something else to do..."

 

"I haven't got anything else to do..." You see, Mello had know L was coming. And had made certain that he could be around for as long as possible with him. Rejecting every invite, meet up and spur of the moment ideas because of it. Though... Now it seemed that had been rather foolish of him.

 

"Huh..." L mumbled thoughtfully, sitting down in his classic style.

 

"Like I said, I've got nothing else to do. Why? You want me gone...?" He replied, walking towards the sofa L was sitting on. Leaving Juliet behind in the kitchen.

 

"No..." L replied. "But you're just really down today... more so than usual"

 

"Just had kind of a bad start to the day... That's all." Mello sighed, fiddling with a long, loose thread on the end of his shirt sleeve.

 

"Hmm... if you want you can have a bite of my cake...?" L offered, holding his cake up to Mello without looking.

 

"No thank-you L... It's your's..." Mello smiled, slightly proud that he'd gotten L to offer him it in the first place. And extatic that he had. Though; the fact he wasn't looking at him made it slightly... not quite how he'd expected, or wanted it to be.

Juliet sighed heavily as she set about cleaning up after the two of them. Looks like L's messiness isn't just to do with his hair and wardrobe. She thought, brushing the long streak of white in her hair behind her ear as she did so. And Mello... I've never seen him act like this around L before, so needy... I can understand his reasoning for it, and I don't think he even realises he's doing it to be honest. But I wish he'd let go...

 

"Okay then..." L agreed, bringing the cake back and taking another bite patiently.

 

Matt lit another cigarette. "I wish I could get a cigar."

 

Might as well try and ask again... Though I doubt it'll work...
"So, how are you? Any interesting cases or anything?" He asked, yet again. Dropping himself casually onto the armchair on the opposite side of the room.

 

"Nothing of any interest..." L muttered. "Where's Matt why aren't you with him?"

 

"He's in our room playing on his X-Box or whatever the hell it is he's got this time round." And to be honest I hate the smell of cigarettes. Stays in my hair for ages.

Juliet sang softley to her self as she clambbered up onto the surface again to replace the cake box.
"Don't dream too far
Don't lose sight of who you are
Don't remember that rush of joy
He could be that boy
I'm not that girl..."

 

"I see..." L muttered. "and Juliet, please cheer up..."

 

"Oh, sorry L-kun." She said quickly, faking a small smile as she wandered into the room.

"Yeah, he likes lives on that thing. As long as he has a game, something to play it on and his stupid **** he's fine."

 

"****? you mean ciggarettes?" L questioned turning to Mello impasively. "Yould you mind getting him Mello? and Juliet, by the tone in your voice it's obvious you're not really happy, now please do something to cheer yourself up, you can even have some cake if you want..."
