I don't get why eveybody's so judgemental on the VA's in dubbed animes. The only reason you would absolutely hate a decent english voice is because you're so used to the Japanese one.

I personally liked Light's voice, though a few times he said the letter "s" weird, which sounded a bit nerdy XD Can't wait to hear more of L's voice.

    OMG THE INSANITY MOMENT.
Honestly, I think he can pull it off. The way he laughs when he's looking over all the people he's killed sounds almost EXACTLY like the Japanese VA ;D

Well, keep in mind, this is the first episode. Light was a bit naive and innocent with the Death Note when he first got it. He barely knows Ryuk, too.
As soon as he meets L, his voice sounds a lot more cunning and witty. I'm sure the eng. Dub will be the same.

When I saw the preview on [as] I about died. My speakers weren't working and I was nearly in tears, so I spent an hour fixing them cause I was dying to hear it.
x3 But yeah, Light is ok. I think it's good enough.
Ryuk and L's voices make me melt. I was a fangirl for both of them before, but now I love them equally<3

News. Majority of the shows I watch are all english. I probably only watched 3 subbed anime series. And I still prefer it over american dub. I live in America and I dislike most dub. Why? Probably because they can't get the voice correctly. It sounds pathetic when they do it. When japanese VA's do it, it's nicely fits the character they voice.

The ep was great. All alone at home on the big screen. Two Arizona Ice teas next to me and volume raised greatly. The opening theme is so catchy lol. I'm addicted to it.

As for the ep, the voice was done nicely. I'm just waiting for Light to act all sinister. I already love the way L's voice works. So hallow and empty...sounds like L xD

Yeah, I somewhat agree with you, but I haven't seen any that I would call "pathetic." Probably the reason that it might sound off is because it's dificult to translate between cultures. Languages have their own styles, and replicating that style into another language is not easy.

If you've missed the episode, you can watch it here:

My parents were just obsessed with anime from teh start x3

    But, back to DN.

@spLIT: Ohmahgawd, same here. The night I saw it was truly amazing. I got out the projector and set up the surround sound, got an entire box of Dr. pepper, and enjoyed the show.

Honestly, I could care less about the voices. The point is it's finally in america, and I can definitly enjoy it every Saturday =DDD

[[you can always just say Split. No reason to add those caps lollll[[[][

That is very true, Iwantedtoexplode. Languages do make a difference.

To say pathetic...I would go with Naruto tbh. Some of the ep dubs disgusted me, but that's just me.

They're airing Ep2 next sat. right?

I should say the same for you, lol.

I agree, the Naruto dub is pretty pathetic. Although it's gotten a bit better since Naruto stopped almost completely with the "believe it" crap.

And yes, episode 2 is airing on Adult Swim this Saturday.

Well we DO get to hear L's awesomely hidden detective-like voice-modulated voice in Ep2. :3

L sounds decent in that, I hope he sounds as promising as the Jap voice. =\

<_< Still say Light has a horrible VA. My friend Nick says that Light sounds totally fine. But he also agrees that when he saw the Jap VA he immediately hated the English one. xD

Well comparing Japanese VAs to American ones are totally different. Of course the Japanese VA's would kill the USA ones. It's just, for the pick the dub is better than many other dubs.

    /facepalm.

    That's not saying ****.

Death Note isn't about writing names down and a ****ing heart attack hits them. It has a storyline, unlike pokemon. The whole point of Death Note is a cat and mouse chase between two geniuses. Pokemon is what they say "Gotta Catch 'Em All". Gotta' Catch my *** on that.

So, if you have nothing better to do than flame a 6 page thread about Death Note, go watch your pokemon.

    GAH! SECOND EPPY IS UP!

L sounds like shigure from FB.
    Watari sounds like Ansem x3

But seriously, ALESSANDRO FTW. I'M LOVING HIS VAing!
L's voice and slight British-ness are making me melt~

And dude, srsly Get a life.

DN is the BEST show I have ever seen in my life. It's freaking INGENIUS.
    Split already backed up why.

NO FLAME WARS TODAY. We were doing fine, so lets not start something. If you don't like Death Note, you shouldn't be here, end of discusson.

    Anywayz...

    EPISODE 2 FTW http://www.adultswim.com/video/?episodeID=8a25c39215d7c8da0115d7dcc8910042
