But it's the final boss! Why shouldn't you expect instant death on your first time fighting the final boss?

 

I didn't use death resistance, I just used raise. (And a down once when the only remaining person didn't know raise).

Anyway Fearless, you might be too defensive in that fight. Though I always found it to be a kind of race to kill him before he gets too strong (When I fought him there was a level of flare that I couldn't even tortoise through), so being able to live that long you must be doing something right.

The real XIII-2 time sink is Lightning's DLC. For the first few fights it is a game of "Last as long as possible so that you have the experience to last even longer" And even when you do "win" the game starts trolling you some.

 

That's where luck comes in. If it uses death on your party leader you can't use raise, the game is over

Well instatn death in a game where you control multiple characters maybe, but instant death that can OHKO the main character and end the battle instantly?

 

While that did happen a few times, I didn't feel like it amounted to anything more than an annoyance. I'm fairly sure I was still using catalogs in that fight because I saw no need to get rid of them. Not to say there is anything wrong with using Cherub's Crown, particularly on the lead. I just don't see that as something that made the boss that much harder. To each their own I guess.

 

Your sig is broken for me btw, I dunno if it's just me, but it's broken.

 

Even using the crown doesn't guarantee protection. I think it's a lame kind of difficulty for any boss, since all it does is punish bad luck

If Saga Frontier 2 is in your backlog you might want to cross it out immediately. Most ridiculously overpowered last boss I' ve ever seen. It made me start the game from scratch, grinding as much as I could this time around, and I won ... out of sheer luck.

It's terrible game design. Unless you have a specific accessory, fully upgraded, there's a random chance that the battle just ends. That's ludicrous
