From what I have seen of the movie, I must admit it looks pretty sexy. The CGI, the way the characters move, the colors, the lights.

    It really sucks me in.

Though Im not expecting much from this because ,as you said, Frozen.
    so.

I just got out of the movie, and it has a small flaws, but it's a perfect family movie, imo. Actually better than Frozen because despite the flaws, this movie has a charm that Frozen was missing. We don't get horribly attached to the characters other than Baymax, but imo it has a little for everyone.

My little sister has nicknamed me Fred, after the token comic book geek in the movie though, so there's that! xD

Look guys, all I'm saying is to slow the hype train down. This isn't about how good or bad you think this film or Frozen are. I'm just tired of the Tumblr treatment, in which a movie gets blown the hell up, and then subsequently everyone starts to realize "Oh hey it's got issues" like every other damn movie.

Again, I expect that the film is good, as I've been wanting to see it too, but please don't let it become the same situation. It's annoying being someone who genuinely liked Frozen and saw its issues but had to see tons of other people with delayed and exaggerated reactions.

If you want issues, the biggest one would probably be the white-washing and culture-washing. An issue which is known in certain areas of tumblr.

The main issue is that the characters, excluding Baymax, are supposed to be of Japanese descent. Aside from Fred, which I'll address later. Of the main characters, only the main character is Japanese. More specifically, half-Japanese. Even the setting is pretty much San Francisco with Japanese flair thrown in.

Now more on Fred and why his white-washing/culture-washing is ...very problematic.

So naturally, Disney wouldn't do such a thing right?

    Right?

What a suspiciously pale Ainu person.

It would be kind of on par with Pocahontas being remade but as a blonde haired-blue eyed woman.

I'm not saying that you can't still enjoy the movie with this knowledge. That's not what I'm getting at at all. What I am saying, is to just be aware that a movie has flaws. A child is not going to pick up these issues when they watch it. Overall, Big Hero 6 is a fun, family movie with a cuddly robot nurse with some issues that an adult should be aware of.

Umm... You also realize that the original comic, despite the entire cast being Japanese, is also pretty racist in itself, right?
There's a post somewhere about it, if you wanna go look it up.

^This. Disney likely decided to make a more diverse cast in order to avoid complaints about only Japanese characters, and because of how racist the original is.

Besides, it could be worse, Fred is the only white kid. GoGo I'm sure is still Japanese or at least asian, Wasabi is african-american, and Honey Lemon appears to be Venezualan or something similar, her accent and darker skin giving that impression (the fact that my mom has a similar accent is also something that gives me this idea). I'm sure Disney wouldn't choose someone with that accent if they didn't mean for her to be a race without it.

Just curious since I haven't seen the film yet: do you mean literally African-American, or is he some other form of dark skinned nationality? I hope this question come off as...cynical or anything: I'm genuinely wondering :|

Aren't most of the characters supposed to belong mainly to the Asian races? And even if they're not, how is that the movie's fault? If anything, it's the original comic book's fault.
In the same way that Gyakuten Saiban/Ace Attorney is pretty much Japan with a little San Franciscan flair thrown in. It's even relocated to LA to hide that in the English translation.
I know it's not your job to educate us, but since you're trying it would be very helpful if you could show a picture of an actual Ainu person for comparison. Here's a good picture for comparison:

The two women might be wearing some kind of face paint that goes with the traditional clothing, but the man doesn't look much darker than Fred in your picture. The women's feet also look a little bit paler than him. The only issue that I see is his blonde hair which could easily be explained away as being dyed. If you're going to complain about eye color, keep in mind that Ainu people have a wise range of eye colors from brown and light brown/gray all the way to blue-gray.

Besides all of that, isn't that just the art style of the movie? By your logic, Oda Eiichiro is guilty of white washing his characters in One Piece. Or does that not count because Oda isn't white? Or is it the fault of the anime studio for not coloring the characters right when adapting the manga?

On a less serious note, I was once friends with acquainted to in the same class as a girl who went to Africa over the summer of her Junior year and when asked about her summer she said that she was suprised at how many African Americans there were in Africa.

On a more jokey note, would I be an American African if I were to move to South Africa and become a legal citizen? And if I had kids there, both white, who later in their lives moved to America and became citizens there, would they then be African Americans?[DOUBLEPOST=1415584694][/DOUBLEPOST]
Hey, Oda's a great writer and an even greater guy. I'm just pointing out that Laurence_Fox's line of reasoning makes him a racist.
