does a thread like this exist here? i didn't see one. The DC Animated Universe, some of the best animated series to have ever graced American television, and now some of most okay direct-to-video movies I've ever seen. Anyway, just discuss. What shows/movies do you like in this pseudo-continuity? Which ones have you seen? etc. Here's a list of the works in case you're not familiar (I'm going by memory here) Television Batman: The Animated Series (The New Batman Adventures) Superman: The Animated Series Batman Beyond The Zeta Project Static Shock Justice league (Justice League Unlimited) Film Superman: Doomsday Justice League: The New Frontier Batman: Gotham Knight Wonder Woman Green Lantern: First Flight Superman/Batman: Public Enemies Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths Batman: Under the Red Hood Superman/Batman: Apocalypse All-Star Superman Green Lantern: Emerald Knights Batman: Year One Justice League: Doom Superman vs The Elite The Dark Knight Returns Part 1 The Dark Knight Returns Part 2 Superman: Unbound Now, the majority of the films are not nearly as solid as the old shows were, which is understandable I suppose, but they are still entertaining for the most part. I watched Batman: Year One earlier this evening and thoroughly enjoyed it. My biggest complaint is that the voice actor for Bruce/Batman was one of the worst voice actors I've ever heard, which seems to be a recurring problem in the film part of this. This is a shame because the old televisions series had some of the best voice acting choices I've ever heard, and those were headed by voice director Andrea Romano as well. I haven't seen all of the films, or television series for that matter, but I do plan on watching all of the films (and the television series that I care about) and so far it really seems to be hit or miss. The Frank Miller adaptions stand out as being the best of the films imo. Justice League is one of my favorite animated series of all time. I haven't seen all of Batman TAS and Superman TAS yet, so we'll see if that statement still holds afterwards. My favorite of the films is probably Batman: Year One from what I've seen so far, which is most of them.
I loved Batman Beyond. Just seeing everything go new school when you're used to the old school Batman. Static Shock was another good one. The story plot was pretty good. Justice League was really cool. Does Teen Titans count? If so, Teen Titans has to be one of my all time favorite TV shows. There aren't really words to describe it other than awesome and fantastic. The plot was out of this world. The characters and their developments were great. It was amazing.
Batman Beyond is kind of the perfect TV show Terry McGinnis is best Batman f#%kin challenge me AND HOW COULD YOU FORGET TEEN TITANS SKDJFHSDKGJSHG. I have also seen both Justice Leagues, a fair bit of old Batman, a little bit of Superman and Static Shock, and the bare minimum of Young Justice (it's ok). Recently watched Under the Red Hood in its entirety and loved it.
Teen Titans isn't in this continuity. Neither is Young Justice. They were made by different people. The movies aren't part of the same continuity as the television shows, but they are made by the same people so they are still considered to be part of the DCAU. Don't get me wrong, I love Teen Titans and Young Justice, but they're not part of this.
Ah, I see. Welp, I learned something today. :L Thinking about watching Crisis on Two Earths next. Anybody seen it who can weigh in?
I totally forgot about Static Shock! That was such a great show ;~; I really need to rewatch it now...
I remember after I watched it I didn't care for Crisis on Two Earths, but thinking back now it seems like it may have been better than I initially thought. It probably wouldn't hurt to rewatch it. I would give it a shot.
A lot of these aren't in the DCAU. The DCAU are all one continuity while some of these are in separate continuities. Regardless, I love most of these<3 I was hoping that Young Justice would spark a new one, kind of reboot the DCAU, a DC-NewAU. I would love to see a Justice League show based on YJ's JL. Hell, Green Lantern: The Animated Series could be retconned to take place before the League formed (or its early days?).
Each of the movies are a separate continuity aside from Public Enemies and Apocalypse (since they're adapting the same comic), while all of the shows are in the same. From what I've heard, they are all considered to be under the umbrella of the DCAU though, given that they are all made by most of the same people. I could be wrong though. I agree.
