"Somehow I think he already knew. He wanted to marry me and settle down. Is that really so bad? He wanted your approval though." Maiko waited quietly then piped up
"Where are we going next?"

 

"We're heading to the next town, and find a doctor."

 

Maiko knelt at the grave. "I will catch up with you. Carry on ahead without me."

 

"The next town is also where the family home is. We can check it out while the doctor is patching up Kyo. The workers are going to let us use a horse and cart to get there."

 

"Neka has changed since Takashiro's death," Yuki said, picking his bag.

 

"Fine, I'll leave then. I obviously am not allowed to show respect for the dead. I will see this house but it is no home to me, remember that brother."

Maiko got up and ran out towards the road.

 

Koza just sighed as he got on the cart and grabbed the reins of the horse.

 

Maiko walked along the road, determined to walk off her anger and frustration. They didn't understand that she needed time to grieve. All for this stupid family that she never knew but seemingly had to drop her life for. The more she thought about it the more she hated the family. Why had she been dragged into this mess? She looked down and glared at the floor.

 

Koza steered the horse towards the town. He was deep in thought as he drove the cart along

I forgot to tell her that the home is in ruins.....

 

Maiko stopped and sank to her knees. She knew that so far her life was sliding downwards out of control. She wanted something good and wondered if the family home was a place where she could settle and maybe pick her life back up. She heard a cart approaching but didn't bother to turn or get up.

 

Koza stopped the cart next to Maiko.

"Need a lift? We're not going to spend too much time in the city, so once we're finished we'll head back to the plantation."

 

"That sounds like a great idea. I guess it's quite a way to walk. Where exactly are we going? I know the doctor and the house but you never said exactly where they were."

 

"The doctors is near the town gate, while the family home is near the square. I'll show you the way."

 

"I can't wait to see it. This house is a link to the past I didn't know."

 

"The house is in some rough shape since no one has lived there for nine years."

 

"Well I'm sure that we can clean out any vermin and cobwebs. It will tell me a lot about who I am."

 

"That'll be nice. We might stumble upon a secret passage or two. Mother always told me that the house was riddled with them."

 

"Well I can't help you there...I've never been there before. I am just a stranger in this house."

 

"I'm sure we'll be able to find them, but we have to get to town first. So hop in."

 

Maiko climbed in the cart and sat next to Koza. She rode quietly, wondering how long it would take until they were in town.
