Kaia followed Koza to the inn. "Look, I have a offer that you must want to consider. I'm traveling, not just to find me, but to find my brother and why he was taken over by a demon. Maybe we can find out who killed your family, okay?"

 

"Very well. We'll call a truce for now. If you even think of attacking me, though, you're dead, got it?"

 

"Okay. I'm traveling early tomorrow. See ya till then." Kaia left the inn and sat. She started to sing.

"There will come a day, something far away. In your arms, I'll stay, my only love."

 

Imagine me, working with a hunter....I wonder if that other girl...no, she seemed really frightened of me, but then again, who wouldn't be? Those long nine years in that hell really changed me.....

 

'A killer.... a handsome killer......' Kaia looked up at the sky and continued to sing. 'Weird.....'

 

Koza walked outside and started sharpening his balde.

 

Kaia watched Koza from where she was sitting and continued to sing.

 

"You have a nice voice. Whatever possesed you to become a bounty hunter?"

 

"I never wanted to be a bounty hunter, but I had to follow the way of my clan if I like it or not."

 

"But if your clan was killed by your brother, then why don't you just give up on being a hunter?"

 

Maiko slipped out of the room, leaving coins to pay for her stay. She noticed the man sat outside the front door and so went through the kitchen at the back. Edging round the building she wrapped herself in her cloak and swiftly walked away, clutching her staff.

 

"I've got a feeling the person I brought here just ran off. Pity she couldn't even thank me for helping her."

 

Once she was out of sight Maiko stopped, wondering who had taken her to the Inn. She asked a few people and was amazed to find it was the man who had ignored her earlier. She found out that he had protected her from bandits. Feeling scared and embarrassed she walked slowly back. Bowing to him, she spoke with her head down.
"Thank you for saving my life Sir. I owe you a great debt."

 

"Think nothing of it. If you will excuse me, I have something I need to take care of."

 

Maiko walked away. He had brushed her off again. She guessed that he would see her as useless, just like everyone else. Ever since she had been on her own she had been an outcast. She ran down the road to the edge of the town. There she began to cry. Clutching her staff and shouldering her few belongings she walked out into the countryside. There she was more likely to find a job and shelter.

 

Koza walked to a temple on the outskirts of town. He knelt at the altar and prayed to the gods for forgiveness.

 

Maiko knocked on a farmhouse door. It was harvest time and workers were always welcome. She soon found that the family were friendly and her knowledge got her a job and a place to sleep in the barn.

 

Koza left town and started heading for the capital. On the way, he stopped at a farm to ask for directions, as he had no idea where he was going.

 

Maiko looked up from the field where she was working. That man was there again. Was he following her or did fate keep throwing them together. He would ignore her again anyway.

 

Koza thanked the farmhands for their directions. The sun was starting to set, so he offered to work in order to pay for a room, as he had no money. As he worked, he spied the girl he helped before.

"Funny that we keep running into each other like this."
