Site News Cutscene Archive & Podcast Update

Hey guys! As some of you may know, our Cutscene Archive has had the same design for many years now--it actually dates back to when Deathspank was around! It worked just fine and was good when there were only a few Kingdom Hearts games, but now that the series has almost doubled in size, I thought it was time for something a little easier on your scroll wheels. I'm proud to say that it's just been activated today! You can click the link on our navigation bar (Media -> Cutscene Archive) to reach it, or click the preview below:

While I was at it, I decided to have a go at the Podcast page as well! The episodes no longer autoplay when you click the page, it's been added to the navigation bar, and there's a lot of information on how you can get involved in the podcast. Each episode is also available for direct stream or download.

I have tested the pages in all browsers and they seemed to work fine (IE7 in particular looked a little wonky but if you're using it, you should consider updating to a newer version of IE, or a different browser altogether). The links should all be accurate as well. If you find any problems, please post here and let me know!

I hope so! Quite a lot of the main site is a little outdated, I've been quietly updating the Cutscene Archive pages for a while now but this is the most drastic, so I felt it worthy of announcing.

I do think I will, right now there's another page I want to do first but it is on my list. :) Thank you, though!

The old layout wasn't terrible but I love what you did Misty.

P.S. Do you think there will ever be mpeg versions of the Kingdom Hearts archives without subtitles?

At the moment we are offering the unsubtitled Kingdom Hearts II videos in MP4 and AVI format. I can't say what formats we may make available in the future--that's up to our Media Content Reporters--but if you need them in MPEG format, you could always convert them.

 

We can't provide mirrors for every format so we found the AVI MP4 combo to provide the most compatibility. I would first check if one of those formats works for your purposes, but I can also assist you with video conversions if needed. Or if I'm not online you can also get help from the other media recorder Miles, or any of several members on the site that would be willing to help.

EDIT: Misty beat me to it mostly. Being ninja'd all the time now that I'll mostly on my phone. xD

I was sick of the old theme, this is great! nice job!

 

I love the work you did with the new layout; it’s visually pleasing, well organized and effective for locating specific cutscenes, quickly.

The old layout was fine but a little hard on the eyes.

 

A good idea but, with the game's chronology being a bit confusing, it may difficult. Secondly, some games (e.g. Days) take place during the events of another game. There's overlap. That would be difficult to represent. Lastly, I don't want to confuse anyone that may be new to the series or just new to the site by having Birth by Sleep towards the top and Kingdom Hearts II near the bottom. I think release order is the most clear way to do it

I did consider that at the time but I ultimately opted to separate it by character on the other page (though the space it takes up was severely reduced by having them two-by-two). If there was a link that was merely Cutscene Archive (Japanese), or something along those lines, and then it navigated to a page with Aqua, Terra, and Ven's cutscenes, I would have to rework all the BBS pages. Not to sound lazy, I wouldn't mind doing it, but I also wouldn't want to confuse anyone more than necessary--seeing all those similar cutscenes together might be a bit flustering.
