Yes and no. Not everyone has to be brought in early, it's going to be a long arc, with plent of chance to introduce people throughout. The tournament is essentially going to be the first thing in World Arc that resembles plot.

Additional Info: The reincarnation of the priestess Kikiyo, Kagome lived a normal life until the day she dragged into the Federal Era. After the Shikon Jewel was shattered, Kagome went with Inuyasha and their friends to find all the shards.

 

...Inuyasha will not be pleased!

 

For the tournament:

1) Applicants may enter in groups of 1-4 fighters. All entrants must give their full name and team name (if appropriate) at the front desk upon application.

2) Once registered, participants may enter a round with any number of their members, though it is not recommended to enter with anything but full strength.

3) Leaving the arena during a match is not permitted. Doing so will result in disqualification. Exceptions may be granted in the case of being forced out of the combat area: there are no ring-outs.

4) Rounds will end upon incapacitation of all members of a team.

5) A match ending in a draw will be put to a panel vote, consisting of three judges. Voting will be considered based on many factors.

Victors shall each be granted their heart's desire during the award ceremony. In addition, there will be prizes for those that entertain the crowd most.

 

That seems like a reasonable ruleset. It also answers my question I gave you in the VMs. Looking forward to the tourny!
