I have an addiction to covers, whether they be someone redoing a song of their own, or someone making a new version of another band's song. It's always so interesting to hear people put a new spin on their stuff. :B Plus, if I hate a song but like the lyrics, I can look for a cover. If you've got any good ones plz share. look at mai fancy list. I Luv the Valley OH by Xiu Xiu (cover of Ten in the Swear Jar's I Love the Valley. Jamie Stewart is/was in both bands) Dogs by Math the Band (cover of the Arthur theme song) Tour Song by Rise Against (Jawbreaker cover) Dammit by Math the Band (blink-182 cover) Umbrella by Tinyfolk (Rihanna cover) C is the Heavenly Option by Los Campesinos! (Heavenly Cover) The Lucky One by Slow Club (cover of the Au Revoir Simone song) Poker Face by Molly Lewis (Lady GaGa cover) Everyday by hellogoodbye (Buddy Holly cover) Optimist VS the Silent Alarm by Casiotone for the Painfully Alone (When the Saints Go Marching In cover) links are appreciated as well. ;o
There aren't a lot of covers I like, but the two I found enjoyable were Paranoid by Megadeth (Black Sabbath Cover) and Get Down Make Love by Nine Inch Nails (Queen Cover). Other than those, most of 'em are nothing special, especially when compared to the original.
Poker Face by Daughtry (Lady gaga cover) Take me Home Tonight by Hinder (Eddie Money Cover) She's so High by Four Year Strong (Tal Bachman cover) Music of the Night by David Cook (Phantom of the Opera cover) I'll post more if I can think of any.
Boyz In The Hood by Dynamite Hack (cover of Eazy-E's Boyz n Tha Hood) I'm sure everyone has heard this cover at least 13 times, but this is one of the few covers (it's more of a variation than a cover) that I prefer over the original. Linky anyway: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UMlPVpXtkJY
This is really the only cover of a song I've listened to more times than the actual song. It's so pretty and it's completely different than the original song.
In Flames ~ "Land of Confusion" Marilyn Manson ~ "This Is Halloween" Raintime ~ "Beat It" The Agony Scene ~ "Paint it Black" Spiderbait ~ "Black Betty" And pretty much anything Kid Rock has ever covered. Oh man, I almost forgot! Of course, no cover list is complete without the mac daddy, the king of kings, the one and only true champion: Killswitch Engage ~ "Holy Diver" I don't care what anyone says, KE's version blows Dio's out of the water. If I heard him perform it live, maybe you could convince me to call it a tie, but purely based off the album versions there is absolutely no contest.
I love the "Punk Goes" albums, so here are a few of my favorites: All Time Low - Umbrella (by Rhianna) I See Stars - Your Love Broadway - I'm On a Boat (idk if this was on any Punk Goes albums though) Attack, Attack! - I Kissed A Girl (this one is so amazing)
"Miss World" by Neverending White Lights (Hole cover) "Time to Pretend" by Jónsi (MGMT cover) "Please, Please, Please Let Me Get What I Want." This song as a number of covers, including a "remastered" version by the original band The Smiths: Cover by She & Him (don't really like this one a whole lot :/ ) Cover by Muse Cover by Deftones "Remastered version" by The Smiths (best one everrrr) "Running Up That Hill" by Placebo (Kate Bush cover) "Sweet Dreams (Are Made of This)" by Marilyn Manson (Eurythmics cover) And basically the whole Across the Universe soundtrack. c: And all of Vitamin String Quartet's work.
Muse's cover of "Feeling Good". On their album, it's awesome. Live? holy ****. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5PN6egPgazA
I don't have a lot of cover tracks, but the one I consistently enjoy listening to is Metallica's cover of "Turn the Page" by Bob Seger. I found the video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOibtqWo6z4 I'm going to have to give these other tracks a listen. I'm recognizing quite a few of the originals here. Probably just showed my age once again.
That is a bad cover from a god awful band. If you like that band you don't like music. I'm sorry but that's a pretty standard statement. It's only fun to listen to if you're mock them. I like me some good covers. I have a covers playlist on my iPod. Zebrahead's Panty Raid is a cover album people need to listen to. It's just awesome. A Day to Remember do good covers. Since U Been Gone and Over my Head. Cancer Bats doing a ****ing awesome cover of Sabotage Pop Goes Punk 2 is a pretty bad cover album but there are some good songs on it. A Static Lullaby's Toxic for example. Apologize by Silverstein is also good. I don't really like You Me At Six but they do a good cover of Poker Face Limp Bizkit's Faith is both awesome and awful.
You shouldn't say one band is god awful then post covers from more god awful bands. Anyway, I got one. Daemonarch's cover of Bathory's "Call From The Grave." If you don't like metal or specifically black (perhaps death) metal I doubt you'll like this. Honestly I haven't heard the original, but I like this.
The best cover is when you can't tell its a cover. Or it crosses into a brand new genre (and changes the tempo) Just playing a pop song with the same chords except on a guitar loudly instead of a synthesiser is not original or creative It just using a music notes sheet with an instrument you know well. I'm not against alterting lines but only when doing the point. I don't like changing a song to suit your gender (like boys changing i kissed a girl to be about kissing a girl but still straight sounding, when its about drunk shallow homosexual kissing/lipstick lesbianism or changing a womans love song to make it heterosexual sounding for a male artist) but changing it to a altered situation is alright. I don't mind keeping the chorus and changing all the verses if its still the same message in your style. You know that cheesy olivia newton john song physical? (Let's get physical, physical Let me hear your body tone, your body tone) well an uk Electronica band called Goldfrapp remade the song in a different tempo, more sensual and only kept the chorus the same and the note progression but used different instruments and called it UK Girls (Physical) that was a good cover. Many people moan when people cover famous bands from years ago but it depends in my eyes. A 70's band called siouxsie and the banshees covered a beatles song called helter skelter and i liked it a lot (the cover is ironic as Siouxsie & the banshees were a heavier rock band than the beatles but helter skelter was the song in the 60's that paved the way for louder music so the cover is softer than the original). Another cover that works well but is risky is a cover of pink floyd's comfortbly numb done by us pop/glam rock band Scissor Sisters (they turned a psycadelic rock song into a dancey disco song). I have heard some utterly useless covers in my time though aswell, like its just an imitation of the original song which seems so karaoke sometimes (90% of the rubbish on reality singing shows for example)
