Found this interesting video quite a while ago.

They violated the law and then tried to go to a different officer when one already told them no. You don't do that, especially in front of the one who told you no. I get putting them into holding was extreme, but you also don't be dumb.

Last time I checked, the "going behind one parent who said no and asking the other that might say yes" method wasn't against the law.

Furthermore, she did let them go even after they asked the other officer, but arrested them when they were trying to get directions from I don't know whose father!? Inexcusable behavior on the police officer's part.

I get it, it's fucked up. But anyone who knows the law knows that cops really don't need to prove you've done anything to throw you in holding for less than 24 hours. Was she a bitch officer? Yup. Don't provoke the bitch.

No reason they couldn't have asked someone else or found any store and asked for directions there. I could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure police aren't there to help with menial problems like that, and by going to another officer it could have been seen as interfering with them.

And they did run a stop sign.

That's exactly what they did. After the officer intervened with the second officer, they pulled over to call I don't know whose father, and she arrested them. Although I don't see why she had to be a bitch and intervene when the second officer would have most likely happily helped them.

Also, running a stop sign only results in a ticket if caught, not jail time.

What I'm saying is they shouldn't have approached an office in the first place when they could have gotten directions some other way.

Oh. I thought it was punishable by 20 years in prison. My mistake.

I don't think you get what's wrong here...

Let's say I work for a department store and I tell you we don't have something... then you go and ask someone else because you really hope they have it. You're insulting the first person you asked by doing that and challenging their skill at their job as well as intelligence. You don't do that ESPECIALLY NOT WHILE PERSON A IS RIGHT THERE. YOU'RE DEALING WITH PERSON A, SO DEAL WITH THEM. Plus, I'm sure she felt she was making a point by not helping them. She probably thought they'd slow down and obey traffic laws if they had to look at signs.

If you disagree, it's whatever, but it's just rude to have done and clearly agitated her. It's not being compliant if you go "EXCUSE ME, YOUR COLLEAGUE IS BEING A B*TCH, CAN YOU HELP US INSTEAD?!?!?"

    Oh American cop stories...

Give a control freak an inch of power and they shall use it for any minor reason.
What bad practice, why would a cop be wasting her time watching a lost couple, and arresting them and not actually (I'm presuming her assignment was) patrolling the streets?

The whole 'can be detained for 24 hours for any reason' is in the cases of possible violators, repeat offenders or like stopping a potential riot, meeting, yadda yadda stuff that is contextual and not as broad as I'm making it. Not for this.

Rudeness isn't a violation of any law in America as far as i'm aware. Otherwise the prisons would be more than just excessive.
And I think it was proven that she was a ***** with her harassment.

It's a clear case of a person in power over-stepping their boundaries, yes, that we can agree on. What I and, I think, Below were saying was that there are ways you can avoid this type of incident *shrug*
