I can't even watch this video. I mean, as soon as the van speeds up I have to stop. I can't do it. This is heartbreaking. I hate stories like this. Firstly, it's sad because she was hit at all. Then, it's sad that the driver...Well, how could you NOT see her after being stopped like that and suddenly speeding up? Then, it's sad that no one helped her for so long apparently. It's just. Awful...

I can't even watch this video. But from the article I read and your reactions...how could they? How? God. Please be OK Yue Yue. Please.
18 people ignored her...what is wrong with them? Why not help her? WHY NOT?!

Please excuse me while I cry a little bit.

    I'm still shocked she survived...
Her parents choose if they want to put her on life support or not.

I'd heard about this on another forum, here's what some of the posters there pointed out:

Makes it even worse in my opinion.

I can't even bring myself to watch the video. I hope she survived, and that she'll be able to recover from the wounds. I don't know if that'll be even possible, but I hope that she makes it through.

The most difficult choice about this is whenever to help her or let her go. If someone helped her, this wouldn't have happened. She had so much ahead of her...it just makes me feel sad.

It's so difficult when talking about these things.

EDIT - I have compelled myself to watch the video and I am horrified. I am literally crying my eyes out. Please be OK, Yue Yue. Please be. Please.

Just reading that article has literally left my mouth hanging. I mean, this is just shocking. I haven't watched the video yet, but I think I will. I can't just ignore that. But what really irritates me the most(keeping myself calm at the moment) would be those two idiot drivers that claim they never saw the girl. I'm sorry, but when there's a girl right in front of you and you run over her, you can't claim you didn't see her. There really is no way you could not have seen her. And then that one idiot that said he saw her bleeding and left. What sort of brainless idiot actually leaves the scene when he hits a child? Those images were pretty disturbing.

I say the Chinese government needs work. I mean, why would they try to keep news of this down? People have the right to know of this, and most certainly the right to know of what's happened to the girl. It'll be really depressing if the parents decide to take off the life support system. I know they must feel really upset, but can't they give it a little more time? I know I don't want to see a 2-year old girl die, and I'm sure as heck sure that they don't want to do so. But I suppose we just have to wait and see.

I'd like to get my hands on those stinking little drivers and drive over them and see how they like it. And that's only the tip of the iceberg on what I would do to them

I'm guessing none of you have read the comments in that article? It obviously doesn't make it better(it kinda makes it worse) but it gives you an idea of what's going on here after the girl got run over. It's hard to believe that people over there put so little value on life. I'm glad that not everyone there feels that way though. >> ...I watched the video and it spooks me to see that's how it looks like when a kid gets run over.

    hey, I read the article.
And yeah, it's spooky, but you have no idea if it's like that everywhere in the world. Although, it is scary knowing you will find a lot of people like that

But I saw this at the news, and it just...I couldn't finish watching it. I really hope that none of us passes by as if nothing. I hope I wouldn't, because this is just too sad.

Sickening . . . that people could just have the nerve to walk by, while a child could be dead in the middle of the road. I mean, I know the Communist Party is strict and the people of China are used to restrictions and not meddling, but man . . . And now she's brain dead and her parents . . . It must be horrible to have to decide whether you want your child to be on life support any longer.

    Breaks my heart.

China is still under Communist rule. News is still restricted and unless there is some kind of major reform or revolution, that's not going to change. Perfect example is how for the longest time searching "Tiananmen Square" in google wouldn't result in any pictures of the massacre or that iconic image of the man standing in front of the tanks.
If they're trying to keep this down it wouldn't surprise me because it'd raise more criticism towards China, but that's not the point of the thread.

I'm unfortunately not surprised by the lack of compassion some people have, not long ago I read an article about a dog getting hit by a bus and no one going to help it for some time. More recently was the assault, burning, and murder of a gay man simply because he was gay. It's like humans have become desensitized to each other's pain and it's really quite worrying.
I do hope there is some way to save her, but if she doesn't show improvement...it may be more humane (in a sense) to let her go. Incredibly sad if it comes to that though, especially because I doubt there will be any justice out of it.

Something like this is actually quite common. Something happens, and no one reacts until they have one person to react. It's basically the sheep mindset. "You do your thing and I do my thing." It takes one person to tell people to react for things to happen. (I don't remember the Socilogical term for it) It's horrible, don't get me wrong, but it's very typical. Also, in a country where the government punishes you over anything they see unfit, it's an ever greater chance they'd ignore it.

    That's just fucked up.

How do you NOT see a kid in the middle of a fucking street? Were they so damn late for something that they just sped up and didn't care what happened to the kid?

How do 18 people walk by and do nothing?

"Oh, hey, look, there's a kid in the street that's been run over. Let's keep walking and do nothing."

Fuck these people. It's just so messed up....

Excuse me while I go kick shit around.

Pardon me for my language, but I'm pissed.

Ah. Sorry, I was just skimming through what people had posted, and I did not see your post.

I agree with the base of your post, but I don't think that makes anything right in this situation. Socialogical conditions or not, somebody should have done something. And why would the Chinese government punish somebody for doing a good deed?

I am not disagreeing with you, I am just stating my opinion.
