If installed, it will become a part of KHV, just as the Spamzone or the VM system is. You won't have to do anything.

From what they say server load is minimum so that won't be a problem.
Now that's something to make a trial run to see if it's good or not.
    Yes from me.

Eh, I don't really like it. This place would become way too much of a social networking site in my opinion. I mean, a big part of this forum is the community, but this would kind of just make a lot of people constantly focus on the little chat that's down in the right corner, why talk with people on the forum when you can just do it there? It kinda takes away from the whole thing imo, but then again I'm a pretty old user from before both VMs and Usernotes, so I might be a tad bit biased on that specific field.

I still go with just using MSN if you want a one-on-one conversation with someone, it really doesn't take that much of effort to get an account or to log on.

It also looks ugly and reminds me of that horrid, absolutely god-awful facebook chat. xD

This has been suggested many times before...here

So no. Not going to happen. End of story!

I'm okay with this. As in, I don't mind as long as there's no harm in it. And if it becomes useful.

I tyhink this would at least be somewhat decent, possible. Perhaps a trial run is in order?

    Chev for worst staff? XD

I don't see anything technically wrong with this idea but it might make KHV feel more like a social networking site which (in my opinion) isn't much of a good thing. Still, if other people want it then I don't object to it.

If it was installed, I wouldn't mind and would probably use it. But I don't like the idea of it. I don't know. I really kind of enjoy the VM/PM system. To log on and see one of those messages personally makes me happier than getting a random chat message would. I hate the Facebook chat, and I appear invisible on MSN for a reason. Plus, the VM and PM history is automatically there. If I feel like getting nostalgic, I can without hassle. Also, if I don't feel like answering someone at that particular moment, I really don't want to get "R U THERE" messages spammed at me like I do on MSN, whereas I can answer at my own pace via VM.

I also feel that because humans are naturally lazy, (lawl), it would be an easier method of contacting people and it would eliminate or significantly slow down the other methods of communication on the site. Each method has it's place, but just like VMing booted PMing to the back when it was installed, I'm assuming the chat would do the same to both.

So I have a couple of questions.

    A) Can we appear offline? /anti-social
    B) Is there a history feature, or would I have to manually log conversations if I wanted to?

Overall, I'm a 'meh' on this. Don't really want it. Can deal with it and will utilize it if it exists.

To be honest, I don't really like the idea of it. As it's already been mentioned, this website will only end up turning into social networking website. I don't really want it mainly because everyone I have on my contact lists, I talk to like none of them except for like three. <<; Two of which aren't even active here and I talk to them either on MSN or through text. If we can disable it, then that's fine.

Just to point out that anyone who doesn't want it can just not use it... and ther's an option to hide the chat bar. It will show you as offline.

When you don't like the idea behind it itself then it doesn't help to just hide it, y'know?

What I meant was appear invisible. To talk to some but not show online for all.

That's what 'show you as offline' means I suppose.
Let me correct myself. You cant show offline as of yet, this feature will be included in future update. Right now you either have it enabled and show online for everyone or disabled and show offline.

I feel bad for believing that especially since there are posts afterwards.

Anyway I support this 100% and really hope we can get this.

There;s nothing wrong with this site being for social networking to an extent. After all, we all come here for different things. I don't care one bit about coding or hacking, yet for some, that's the main attraction of the site. I simply ignore the Code Vault, (and the videos, and the graphics section) because they don't interest me. But I wouldn't try to restrict or remove them because I don't think the site 'should' be about them. That's the great thing about the site: there's something for everyone. If people want to be social, they can.

VMs/PMs will still be in use. If you make it known that you don't use the chat (e.g. by never replying, because you have it deactivated) you will continue to get PMs/VMs.

I'm not sure about the invisibility functions. I'd imagine that it'd reflect your own status of visible/invisible on KHV, but I don't know.

VMing booted PMing back to what PMing was best for: private messages. Using PMs for conversations was inconvenient. There was no reason to continue to use an archaic system for something unnecessarily difficult. It's the same here.
