Catholic Church Excommunicates Rape Victim's Mother

    BBC story

I mean, what the fuck. She is 9 years old! What kind of a faith allows such a thing to happen? She could not have survived the pregnancy, as well as the fact she was raped by her stepfather.

And what does the Catholic church do when the girl's mother and doctors do the only thing possible (and right) in the situation? Excommunicate them.

All I can say is at least they are out of the madhouse. I mean really, I cannot possibly fathom how anyone could belief in this shit.

It was wrong. But atleast the family is better off without the church. Unfortunately rules are rules, even when I think this case was the exception of the rule.

As I said, they are better off.

Your last statement is true to the end.How can someone believe in such a thing. It is just immoral and just wrong. All i can say about the church is that it sickens me to the very core of my being and i cannot believe that people could believe in such a religion.I'm glad that Angels and Demons is coming out soon and open peoples eye's to what is possibly in the background of the church.Maybe it's true, maybe not but it will open peoples eye's to possiblity outside of the constraints of religion. With the amount of stuff that the church has done, it could be compared to hitler. They have propagnada that shows them helping people when this stuff is happening in the background.I wonder if the church has there own private police force, like the gestapo.

Probably, not, but it certainly doesn't lack the power to have one, in fact if something happens, maybe economy falls or something, the church could take advantage and spread its roots into the goverment once more.

Since I go to a Catholic School (although I myself am Agnostic) I can see both sides from my viewpoint. The girl would have probably died if the twins had not been aborted, however, the church holds the view that two new lives is better than one lost. I really hate this about the church because it is their choice weather they want to have an abortion or not. Also, this is a prime example of where the commandments "Do not kill" and "Do not commit adultery" come into conflict. As incest comes in under adultery, if the two children were born and it were discovered that they were their grandfathers, they would probably be excommunicated anyway because their birth comes into conflict with that commandment. However, they were aborted so their anyone associated with the abortion has been excommunicated. Although the two people were not related by blood it is still incest and although the twins wouldn't have any of the medical problems associated with being the product of blood-tied incest, they would still have the stigma. The church has no right to interfere with someone's life. Religion is just one aspect of a person and there are many other aspects which they just refuse to see. Also, the catholic church is the richest organisation in the world, yet I do not see the catholic church giving to any charity which may be able to help children in this situation. In fact CIAF the Catholic Aid Fund is it's own charity, designed so that people of that faith are pressured not to support these charities sich as Comic Releif, Children in Need, Oxfam etc. Basically I hate the set of ethics because they are limiting and over 2000 years old. All religions need to learn to grow with the times. This is one of the main reasons why I am agnostic. Yay for text wall, although it can't rival any of Replikus ^_^.

I like your view on the topic and it's a very educated answer. If i were a religious person i would agree with you about religion growing with the times because as religion gets older it dies, just like people. With religion, it allows you to you to grow as a person, except some people like myself, bunter, etc grow out of religion and have our own beliefs that belong to us, no god.

Wow. I always knew most of the officials in the Catholic Church were insane, but... Wow.

You know, it's kind of ironic... Back when there were all those priest/child molestations, the church basically gave them a slap on the hand (as far as I heard), and yet, with something totally unrelated to them, and in fact out of their jurisdiction, they excommunicate everyone related? As I said, insane.

That's just sick. They honestly believe that two non-started lives, that never would have came to be in the first place, is worth sacrificing the life of an innocent 9 year-old girl. It makes me want to retch.
This is pretty much why I don't go to church.

Funny that despite me living in Brazil I haven't yet heard a single thing about it here.

That asides, this doesn't really surprise me. Both the crime and what the Vatican did.

Wow...that's just...blah...Those twins would've probably died anyways. I doubt a 9 year old girl would have much chance of giving birth to healthy twins. If the birth would've happened all three could've died.
Whatever...I don't really believe in excommunication anyways. Oooohhh, the Church says you're not a part of it anymore. So what? Doesn't mean God says you're a sinner for doing the only smart thing at the time.

I can see both viewpoints really, I mean it was wrong, because such a small child could not have dealt with one baby, let alone two, and all the doctor's and mother did was try to help. But on the other hand, the what the Church believes is what the Church believes, and rules are rules, so in one way they were right. They did the wrong thing for the right reason, and the mother and doctors did the right thing for both the right and wrong reason.

    This.

I hate how the church claims to be the voice of God, it's so idiotic. Even if those twins did survive, that girl probably would have died. Then, just imagine, those twins growing up with that "rape" air around them. Seriously, the parents, knowing that those kids are the product of rape, AND that another little girl died for them to be born...you really think they would be raised the same? The Catholic church really needs to be stopped. Their whole basis is guilt, and they are trying to make that family guilty for saving their daughter/trying to make that girl guilty for saving herself, and that is disgusting. Basically they are supporting human sacrifice.
