Alright guys I need your help really badly. I've gotta take a class that requires a 35mm SLR camera and I've got no idea where to start, you mind helping me out? Recommend me some cameras - the brand doesn't matter as long as the camera is . . . . the right? one. I really need it you guys so . . . yeah.
Kodak digitals are notoriously...bad. At least any I've used or my friends have used. I personally use a Sony Alpha and I love it, but other brands that are reliable are Nikon and Canon. It's pretty much Sony, Nikon, and Canon that are reliable brands; a friend of mine uses a Nikon and my highschool bought two or three Canon Rebel XTis last year for yearbook. I warn you though, DSLRs are not cheap, and I would highly recommend looking around everywhere before buying one. Consider things like future use, durability, and maintenance. Do you see yourself using a DSLR after the class? How much are you willing to spend on extra equipment (like additional/replacement lenses)? Are parts of the camera (like the battery door) known to break off easily? Things like that are all details you'll want to keep in mind before buying one. I'd recommend looking at some of the most recent models - the Sony Alpha A100 (which is what I have), Nikon D80, and Canon Rebel XTi. A huge reason I love my Alpha is this: it has in-camera image stabilization. Meaning that the camera moves the sensor in response to camera shake to reduce a blurred image. But again I stress considering all options and such before actually buying one. You may also want to get in contact with whoever runs the course to see what they'd recommend, or even if you can rent a camera. Depending on the kind of course that can be a possibility.
Thanks Wolfie, I really appreciate your help. I'm more leaning towards the Canon Rebel and I've already looked up a few of them, they look decent for me. I'll also check out some Nikon ones as well, I should be finding a good camera soon, and I will be using it after the course is over, and am ready to spend the money on other equipment. I've got total dedication for this./superexcited. Thanks, and if anyone else wants to help, I'll be glad to hear it. (:
How much are you planning/willing to spend? Regardless, unless you're picky about it, you could take a look at how much a used one will cost. However, if you are to but a used one, thoroughly look at it. Also, as far as cameras go, I had a Canon EOS (Something, idr which one) that I broke. Before it broke, however, it was great. You might want to take a look at the Canon EOS 550D, because in 2010, it won an award for Best D-SLR Advanced. (TIPA Awards)
