Broken Japanese 60 Gb PS3

Hey folks. The first PS3 I ever obtained to use was from Japan (off of eBay, stupid me). I never used a voltage transformer (which I should have, so just in case you plan on getting one from there) which eventually damaged the motherboard. Now I sent Sony Japan an email about this and they did reply.

Sony Computer Entertainment Japan (SCEJ).
We are writing in reply to your inquiry.

Regarding your inquiry, we would like you to check the model number of
your PLAYSTATION 3 (PS3) at first, because we SCEJ do not officially
sell any of our Japanese products outside of Japan.
The model number of Japanese PLAYSTATION 3 should be CECH-A00,
CECH-B00, CECH-H00 (+color code).

In case you have a Japanese console, we would like to examine your
console at our repair division in Japan however unfortunately, we SCEJ
cannot accept a repair request from outside of Japan directly.

Due to the different language, voltage standards and the system issues,
Sony Computer Entertainment Inc. (SCEI) has implemented a territorial-
based distribution and support system for its hardware, software,
peripherals and network services.
We SCEJ only manage the area inside of Japan.

If you have any acquaintances who have an address in Japan, we can
accept a repair request from that person.
We will inform your acquaintance about receiving, returning and repairing
process for your console.
In addition, in case some repair fee is required, the amount needs to be
paid when the acquaintance receives your repaired console.

Please note that the Japanese model of PLAYSTATION 3 is designed and
manufactured for the Japanese voltage and safety standard.
Consequently, we do not recommend all our users to use any of our
Japanese products outside of Japan, because it may lead up to a serious
accident and the malfunction of the console.
In addition, we SCEJ do not officially sell any of our Japanese products
outside of Japan, also we request our customers to purchase our products
from the region they live in.

Also, in case you have other reasonâ€™s model, please contact the customer
center which deals with the model.

I've also contacted and shipped the console to a third party repair people but they said it had to be about $500 for a new motherboard.

So folks anyone got a solution? I'm not worried, to be honest if there isn't a sensible solution. I do have an American PS3 I did but (although its not the fancy backwards compatible kind). So just for the hell of it I decided to ask here.

Your better off buying a new console all-together.
At this point is seems like it will cost more to fix this than its worth.
Only advice i can give is to try to find a 60gig (NTSC or PAL depending on your country) on ebay.
