I personally feel that you misunderstood the statement. Usually when "somewhere" or "something" or "someone" is in a sentence, the statement is an approximate guess. Not to mention that many people do not have the energy to say "South America". It's a hard habit to break, many educated people say "Mexico" in reference to all of South America. While the sentence is rather ditzy, I don't believe they should be condemned for something like thi-
