Body Art (Specifically Piercings)

Hey guys, I'm just wondering what your opinions of body jewelry are. Simply put, what makes you hate/love/puke/jump/scream/glomp when you see them? What kind of contexts do you think they have socially? Etc? I find body jewelry very cool as long as they fit the person and stay away from the naughty areas. Here are a few pics of cool body mods that I think are cool. The first one is my GF's neck "Dermal Anchors" and the 2nd two are my piercings. One nostril ring and a Custom Industrial that goes through the Tragus and the Conch. So have at it - What are your opinions on piercings? Please refrain from any "/hate emo" crap here thanks! =D

PS. This is less a place for "Piercings are gross eww" and more a place for "I think the image you portray to society with piercings is..." =) Also, an interesting topic for discussion, how extreme is TOO extreme?

I think that tounge piercings look pretty good. The only problem I have with them is the difficulties eating which obviously come with it. I think it's awesome when someones talking to you and you can't concentrate on what they are saying because of what they have in their mouth :P. Unfortunately my school doesn't allow them, but my work does because they can't see them ^^. My dad will also not allow me to get one -____-.

I also think that piercings through the top of the ear look good. As they are on the ear they are also socially acceptable (unless you just hate piercings). My dad says I could get that if I wanted it, but again at work if I want to get my ears pierced I have to get both lobes pierced and wear studs in both x.x

 

i actually really hate them well nose are ok ... but yeah that's all

I'm sorry to hear that Bunterx, just wait till you're 18 like I had to. The 2nd week after I was 18 I went out and got my nose pierced. It was a really cool experiance =)

I consider something on my tongue one day, but I'm not sure. I feel like it wouldn't compliment me as well as other piercings would.

 

Well it depends with me really cos some extreme cases creep me out....

but there is this guy in school who has a piercing below his lower lip and one on his tongue (and it really makes him look sexy!!!).

and then there are those people in gamestation who have their ears, nose, lips, jaws and tongue pierced (all of them have one in this store so I think it's part of the dresscode to have a stud somewhere) but they are over the top in my eyes and totally creepy.

 

Are they really really big? Or just in weird places?

 

Hey your body is a canvas, I don't care how people percive me, cause if they will assume I am a lowlife by looking at my tattoos then they can suck it. But I am fine with it. I am not much of a piercer, I had my tongue done a while back but I took it out. So not a big deal either way. The thing htat people see is wrong with it is that since the world is so conservative, or atleast civilized places, people see it as low class.

 

Yea I agree, I think you need to have a certain level of "I dont give a ****" in order to get piercings and tattoos because ultimately people won't like you sometimes over it.

 

weird places and at least two of them have something the size of a bolt on their jaw... (one woman works there with like four men and they all have at least five different parts of their face pierced)

 

I think some piercings are fine, and really cool. I guess for me it depends on where you get them, and like califa said 'extreme cases creep me out.'

Aside from that I think it's a good way to express yourself, and some piercnigs are hot xD

 

as I've said I think some places that are pierced and some piercings do look hot!!!

like on someones lower lip that just seems so....

...well you can get creative with someone having a ring pierced on there could do (I know my mind has n_n )

 

I think piercings are pretty cool, but not a lot of them. Then it's a little weird. Personally, I want two more in one ear, one in the other, and one on my nose. One or two tattoo's are fine to me, but a lot of them gross me out. I always think "What will those look like when they're all wrinkly and old?" ._.

EDIT: I also think that little designs of makeup on your eye or something are really cool looking, even though they probably take a really long time.

Piercings are pretty cool.

...........as long as you get them in the right places (places that suit the person's look or style).

Other forms of body art are awesome, too. Like tattoo's. I'd think I'm more of a tattoo person than a piercing person, imo. A drawing of a sort put on your skin for all eyes to see, especially if you're proud of the piece, is a cool thing to have. However, not when it's covering near every inch of your body. Ew. :3

Piercings are okay to me, as long as it doesn't cause any long term damage...

eg; STRETCHERS - a big no no.

Piercings to me are just expressions and decorations and on some people who take good care of them, they are cool. Those who don't, don't look so good. Also, knowing that sometimes the body rejects piercings is something to heed because if you notice they aren't taking right, remove them so there isn't a lot of scarring. I have seen some scarring from them and mainly the ones people should avoid getting are 'corset' piercings on the back. They almost always fail as one friend found out. Also, it isn't emo to have piercings!!! They've existed for thousands of years and are part of culture. Just thought I'd add that.

 

corset piercings are NOT meant to be permanent, they are a temporary party gig sort of thing. You leave them in for like 2 days at most Lol

 

There's nothing wrong about piercings.

Yeah, I'm not a big fan of stretcher piercings either because if you do try to take them out, you can't really repair what was done without some serious surgery. They look 'okay' in but I could never do that to myself because it's totally damaging. I don't mind other people having any piercings really as I know if I find it too nasty I don't have to look. The more extreme ones though like nipple piercings, groin piercings, stretchers and things through the chin or nape piercings I wouldn't want on me really ever. Some people get so many piercings I'm just in shock they don't ruin them all the time.
