Biohazard (Remake)

Jayne was back in her house, in her own bedroom. Her father was downstairs singing along to old records from the fifties, a hobby of his, and her mother was in the kitchen, laughing and talking and making breakfast. Jayne smiled and breathed in the delicious smell, and lightly ran down the flight of steps that led to their kitchen. "Good morning, honey," her mother said, smiling. "Did you sleep well?" Jayne was about to answer when suddenly the room grew dark. She looked out the window and saw a storm outside, and when she turned back to her mother, she was dying, her spirit slipping away while her father wept, clutching his head. Then as Jayne watched, he ripped off his surgical mask and leaned over her mother, kissing her before she could breathe her last. Then they were both dead, and Jayne was all alone in this world of disease and death. The house was gone, the sun was gone, all she could see was darkness, and everything was cold. But she could still smell pancakes...

Gasping, Jayne sat up straight in her bed, and after breathing heavily for a few seconds, she remembered that she was in the hideout, and she realized that Mya was cooking breakfast. She looked around at the others, embarrassed. She hadn't dreamt in ages, but then again, she hadn't really slept in a warm, safe environment either. She slowly got up off the bed and made her way to the kitchen. She didn't want to eat any of Mya's food, but she was getting hungry and had to eat sometime.

 

Kanonno's eyelids slowly drifted open as the refreshing scent of an early morning breakfast filled her lungs, which immediately made her stomach ache from hunger...or perhaps it was just her obsession with food. Regardless of the cause, she slowly sat herself up and stretched her stiff arms and legs, giving a nice big yawn in the process as she noticed most of the others making a move for the table. Smiling, she picked herself up off her bed and ran towards the others, anxious to dig into the mouth watering food which sat before them.

 

Mya noticed the others waking up and smiled at them. Ah you're awake. Please help yourselves. There's more than enough food for you guys. She sat down at the table, placing a large pitcher of juice. Well today is gonna be a busy day. We"ll be scavanging some old markets for supplies right after the guards do their weekly drop off.

 

Danni had been awake for a short while but had not moved or even opened her eyes. She had been enjoying the peace and the short relaxing break from the chaos outside. She'd listened to everyone get up and took pleasure from the sweet aroma's filling the room, with her hand wrapped around her trusty bow. She was glad she hadn't had the need to use it but it still felt good to have it with her. She'd had her bow a long time and she'd been through a lot with it. It was like her comfort blanket and it reminded her of home. Finally the call of the food was too great, she didn't care if Mya said there was plenty, they were all hungry and she didn't want to miss out. Her eyes flickered open and she lay for a moment more gazing at the ceiling, a smile on her lips before finally sitting up. "Good Morning" She said quietly to everyone before drifting over to the food, she wondered what today had in store for them. If it was anything like yesterday, well it wouldn't be boring. The slums were many things but boring wasn't one of them.

 

That sounds like fun. Ren thought before taking a bite out of the food.

 

Mya took a bite out of her food. There shouldn't be raiders out now. The Safehaven guards are patrolling the area. Unless they're really stupid.

 

Jayne half smiled as she took a plate of pancakes and carried it to one of the couches. She turned away from the others before taking off her two masks, then started to eat hurriedly, so she could put the masks back on. The pancakes were delicious, she hadn't eaten home-cooked food since her mother had gotten the Virus, and just the taste of hot food made her feel better. That plus the sleep she had got last night made her fairly optimistic. So they were going to go look for supplies? That sounded... almost fun, now that there were other people to do it with her. I really should stop worrying so much, she thought. I have two masks, and I'm wearing two pairs of gloves. If I'm careful about what I eat and drink, I should be fine. She scarfed down the rest of her food and tied the two masks back in place before taking the plate back to Mya. "Thanks," she said. "That was great."

 

Kanonno took a small stack of pancakes away with her to the same couch she had sat on the previous night, resisting with all her might the urge to wulf them all down in one gulp. She hastily sat down and plunged her fork into the first pancake and brought it up to her mouth, not wasting any time digging in, each gulp making her stomach purr in appreciation. "Edible Heaven on a plate!" She exclaimed as she licked her lips hungrily. It was the first really decent meal she had had since...well..maybe forever! Her memory did her no good on the subject so she stuck with the idea that this was the best of the best, making the taste seem ever more refreshing. The thought of the days "to do list" made her a tad gloomy, searching for supplies around here was never too much fun, especially if you did it solo, she had learned from experience. I guess company will make it better...maybe she told herself a few times, trying not to trigger any depression that might ensue if she became too pessimistic. She moved that to the back of her mind, however, as she finished off the last golden cake of the gods. "That was really enjoyable! Thank you very much!" She smiled gratefully and returned the plate, patting her stomach as it continued to purr with delight.

 

Mya smiled at them. It's my pleasure to serve you guys. It's been so long since I had friends like you. Most of them moved into Safehaven. So did- She stopped herself and shook her head. Anyways, the soldiers should be arriving any moment now.

 

"So what do we do when they get here?" Ren said before taking another bite of the pancakes. "Aside from not attacking them."

 

Just be on your best behavior and don't give a bad reputation of yourself. The last thing I want is to be us marked as an enemy. She finished up her plate and set it aside.

 

Jayne noticed as Mya stopped mid-sentence and then continued talking about a different matter. What had she been about to say? Did she know somebody in the Safe Haven? Maybe... Maybe it was a family member. She decided not to mention it. Instead, she started pacing, waiting for the soldiers to arrive so they could get going. She was beggining to feel trapped, which was ridiculous. She could leave whenever she liked, Mya wasn't holding her here, she wasn't a prisoner. But the feeling was there just the same. She had to shake it off. She sat down on a chair and pulled her new gun out of her pocket, examining it and cleaning it a little. It was a good kind, she could tell. She didn't know much about guns, just what she could learn on the streets, but she could tell whenever she got a new one wether it was better or worse then the last.

 

After a few minutes, there was a couple of faint thuds. Oh they're here. Be right back. I'll go fetch them. She got up and headed for the entrance.

 

OOC: Seeing no one responded, guess I'll keep going.

BIC: As Mya came back, 2 armored men followed her, one holding a big box. Friends, this is Captain Xane. Xane, these are my friends.

Xane examined the people and looked back at her. And are you sure you can trust them? The last time, we found- Mya cut him off with a smile. Anyways, please take a seat. Xane nodded and he and the other soldier took a seat on the unoccupied couches.

 

Immediately, Jayne was suspicious. Not of the officer, he looked nice enough, and not of Mya. But of what the officer had said. Found what? she thought. Last time, you found what? She looked around at all the other people. Were they hiding something? Apparently, Mya had invited people to this place before, but nobody was here now. Had something happened then? Had somebody brought the Virus? No, that couldn't be right, because there were people here now with the Virus, and Mya wasn't mad about them. Maybe they had found a spy or some stolen stuff or something like that. Oh well. She pushed that thought out of her mind and looked curiously at the officer. So he was from the SafeHaven? Well, that had to be fun, living in the big dome with all the lucky people who were rich enough to be of importance to the government, knowing all the while that outside the world was being ripped to pieces. Oh well, obviously, not everybody from the SafeHaven was so heartless as most. Captain Xane was out here, wasn't he? Delivering medicine and supplies to the less fortunate. He might not be so bad. "It's nice to meet you," she said quietly.

 

"So, how exactly do you know each other?" Ren asked.

 

Xane smiled at them. About a year ago, I found her being mugged by a bunch of Raiders. I helped her out and it sort of went from there. She has a good heart. She loves to help people. I wish I could keep her safe in Safehaven, but rules are rules sadly. Mya nodded. Now, Xane what's the situation in Safehaven?

He sighed sadly. No luck. There still isn't a cure yet. We won't know if we can make one. Sorry Mya...

 

Well that's encouraging. Ren thought to himself. He had no idea what he would do if he couldn't get into the safe haven like he promised his sister when she was allowed. No! I can't give up hope yet. The keyword in what Xane had said was might. So there might be a chance after all. Maybe.
