"A man who believed he bore the "mark of the beast" used a circular saw to cut off one hand, then he cooked it in the microwave and called 911, authorities said.
The man, in his mid-20s, was calm when Kootenai County sheriff's deputies arrived Saturday in this northern Idaho town. He was in protective custody in the mental health unit of Kootenai Medical Center.
"It had been somewhat cooked by the time the deputy arrived," sheriff's Capt. Ben Wolfinger said. "He put a tourniquet on his arm before, so he didn't bleed to death. That kind of mental illness is just sad."
It was not immediately clear whether the man has a history of mental illness. Hospital spokeswoman Lisa Johnson would not say whether an attempt was made to reattach the hand, citing patient confidentiality.
The Book of Revelation in the New Testament contains a passage in which an angel is quoted as saying: "If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives his mark on the forehead or on the hand, he, too, will drink the wine of God's fury."
The book of Matthew also contains the passage: "And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole body to go into hell."
Wolfinger said he didn't know which hand was amputated."

    -facepalm-
This is why Christianity annoys me. The bible is so full of BS that it shocks me.

Don't insult the Bible. It's not the Bible's fault. The man just read it wrong and misinterpeted. You are entitled to your opinion, but don't go saying it's full of BS, you're gonna get a lot of people mad at you.

Another wacko decides to mutilate himself and has permanently removed his hand. He probably will refuse it back because it has the sign of the Devil and can now collect disability by his own doing. We after all have to cover for it. I don't think it's mental illness. It's delusional religion. When religion goes bad, these are the types of people that really just need locked away so that they don't harm anyone.

Also, I'm not sure how you can say to not blame the Bible at all. Really, with all the violence in the Bible and how people take that literally, I'd think they'd hit on the book faster than any video game if it wasn't for the fact it was accepted as mainstream before people started caring about children and violence. It's meant to be a book to guide people but the messages can be taken in any way by anyone, to include literal as it is spelled out plain as day. However, on a point I do agree with you. After all, the man had to interpret the book passages like this while obviously not all people are going about lopping off their hands or scalping themselves. Most people therefore get that it is probably just a metaphorical example.

Like she said, its not the Bibles fault. Maybe the man had too much stress or something.

    .. There just sayings.

Anyone who takes things like that literaly is just dumb. The whole bibble is full of stories saying such things there stories with a meaning.
The story in question probebly means something like 'If something makes you do bad things abandon it.'

That something could be a 'friend' an object whatever.

... I fear people who take the bible too literally.

I mean there's a paragraph in it that tells you if you don't have a wife it's okay to kidnap one. <.<

For all you guys probably know, there is no proof who created the bible at all, so I decided to stick with my theory: It was written by bunch of people who were on high on cannabis.

but I do have one little question on the mental(?) guy,...

How on earth did he managed to bypass the safety doors and get all that gamma goodness on his hand.

Isn't the bible consisting of sevreal stories and what not from sevreal of those books of revelations and book of other such thing. I'm not christian but what Whelpsystem wrote seems very stupid.
and I have no idea whats his saying here.

Does anyone have a link for this cause it seems like a far fetched story. But this guy (if real) is just kind of stupid. There are several things that happen before the mark of the beast. and the bible teaches that you are responsable for your actions so the "evil hand" bit can only be taken metaphorically.

to be honest, my theory is closer to truth than Jesus walking on water. And apologies from the previous comment. I didn't see the hacksaw part. Still, I bet the severed hand is beyond repair.

Anti is right. I am Christian, but I think the bible is full of morals only!People shouldn't take it literally, even if it says to. And it was written a very very long time ago, so people then might have taken it literally, but now, we know that we should not do things like that, because we, as christians, now believ that that is not what God wants us to do.

Because one man takes something like this too far does not mean the Bible is responsible, if this person controlled themselves they wouldn't have cut their hand off.
This person isn't completly mental if he still has the capacity too think of how not to bleed to do death, it shows he still has alot of initiative and put much thought into it.

And you can't blame the majority of Christianity because of one man.

Wow...this is a bit overboard. I mean, I'm christian, but I find no reason to cut off my hand for something seemingly ridiculous like that. Also, wats with the microwave?

This is just sad. I mean there are so many whackjobs out there who will whack off their hand because of what they read? I seriuosly just want to say "f*** religion" sometimes, even though I'm a Christian. It's plain absurd. I mean to cut off you hand and microwave it? It's sick and disgusting.

    Oh, for Pete's sake.

It's nice that he's such a comitted Christian, but cutting your hand off? Really? I have a pitchfork-shaped bithr mark on my left hand, but it's not Satanic or anything.

It's not The Bible that's bull****, but the way some people take it is.
