Best Final Fantasy

Yeah, FFVI rocks. I got the GBA version recently and just couldn't stop playing. There are at least a dozen playable characters, all of whom are more developed than the six characters in FFXII. =.= And Kefka is one of the greatest villains in the history of videogaming.

You really should. The graphics are pretty poor but they are sort of charming, in an old school kind of way. You never know, SE might remake it, like what they did with FFIV.

 

Why does everyone hate FFXII? At least it tried to change the tired old 'dancing in a line taking turns to slap goblins' gameplay! FFXII is best in my opinion.

 

I think the problem some people have with it related to the flimsy storyline and poorly developed characters, not the (admittedly excellent) gameplay.

 

I HATE FFXII amongst all Final fantasies, the storyline is extremely poor, i beat the game and i still don't know the story of ANY character in the game. The characters don't have any specific personality and it's pure gameplay, and ALL Final fantasy should be:
-60% Story
-40% The rest (Action, comedy, etc...)

That game deceived me a LOT, but i have to admitt the gameplay is awesome, and the battle system is almost perfect. For me that's the only BIG thing of the game.

 

I agree with you completely. FFXII is like 20% story and 80% everything else.

It's just so hard to give a damn about the story or the characters.

 

I think if Sakaguchi would have been the full responsable for this game it would've been a better game, and with lots of story, and probably one of the bests FFs, but the ruined it for me. And without Nobuo's music it's like.... if it wasn't a real Final fantasy. You can notice that FFXII tracks aren't as good as Nobuo's.

 

I am stuck about the best Final Fantasy. FFVII put it on the RPG map forever and FFVIII was the best FF hit in NA. But I like FFXII and I am playing FFIX now. I also can't for FFXIII to come out. So it is really hard for me to choose

 

That's easy, classify them by something! Like:

Storyline: FFV
Stat Growth: FFVI
Drama: FFIV
Coolness: FFVII CC

 

I don't know about the best Final Fantasy, but I know which one is the most Over-rated *cough*FFVII*cough*. FFVII is a fantastic game, but there's so many squealing fanboi's over Cloud. He's a good protagonist, but he's not that great just because his sword is the size of a small car. If anyone remembers or recently played it you'll know Cloud isn't much like he's portrayed now. He was a bit of a messed up kid, but he liked to have a laugh and talk, he wasn't even afraid to dress up like a women. But Advent Children was raped by Fanboi's getting what they want he turned into a stereotype grumpy badass. That's how I feel anyway.

WHOA! I did not mean to go off topic and have a moan, it just sorta happened sorry. I think personally the best FF's for me are:
-IV - 5 party Members FTW.
-VI - Gau is awesome.
-VII - Great Story and Characters
-VIII - New battle tactics, awesome.
-X - A real Touching story, plus a great skill development

Not really. I started on FFXII and I love it. The things people say bad about it don't register with my brain because it was the first one I played. To tell you the truth, I used to hate Final Fantasy games because there were so many. I thought that you had to play them in order to understand it. Then one day while watching X-Play, I saw them review FFXII and I was like "I want it."

i like X and IX...the characters are my favorites....although Sephiroth is my nr 1 FF bad guy

 

Why exactly is the story of FFXII so despised? Really the only complaint is that some characters sort of dropped off the radar. Vaan slowly fades in and out of existance, finally disappearing altogether after the Pharos, and Penelo disappeared in a puff of smoke after you save Ashe from the Leviathan. Plus, Fran sort of pissed me off with her accent. I had an explosive nosebleed (not really) when they showed up at her village and discovered it entirely populated by hot women with rabbit ears and barely any clothes. Apart from that, I don't see how the story could have been 'poor'.

However, I say that Crisis Core is the best Final Fantasy, hands down. An epic adventure you can take on the bus.
