This movie already has a thread: http://kh-vids.net/threads/superman-batman-movie.140675/

Anyway, I really like Jesse Eisenberg, but it's REALLY hard for me to imagine him as Lex Luthor. I feel he's too... young. But hey, who am I to judge. Here's to hoping he makes a damn good Lex Luthor.

If you'd've thought of LexCorp, you'd've invented LexCorp.

Honestly, I don't know that much about the character besides from what I've seen in SmallVillle. I've heard how he is from various comic book fans, and I think that Eisenberg may have a good shot at it. I mean, he basically played the character in The Social Network; the head of a company who is willing to screw over anybody, even his best friend, to get what he wants. I feel that he just needs to break past that motif of acting like an awkward person, which he did sort of well in Now You See Me.

I like the guy, but it honestly was a huge surprise when I first heard about it. Really, my first reaction was to laugh, and laugh I did. I thought about it and he has a shot of really doing something with this character. And it's still being directed by Snyder, so there isn't going to be much there anyway (I say this standing behind that I thought Man of Steel was good--not anywhere near great but not as bad as everyone makes it out to be).

Those being rumored to play the role, that's what added to the surprise. I honestly wanted to see Denzel Washington play the role. I mean, have you seen Training Day?! Bryan Cranston was another name out there, which I was heavily against. I love Breaking Bad and his character on there was so iconic. My problem is that I didn't want him to be typecast, and people were going to hope to see Heisenberg, not Lex Luthor. Plus, he's already been Gordon.

I'm...of two minds about this (Lex Luthor? Call me Harvey Dent). I'm all for the shock factor of completely different portrayals of characters, but Jesse just doesn't fit the bill. Unless they turn Lex into something akin to the Mandarin from Iron Man 3 or Hammer from Iron Man 2, I just don't feel threatened by him. I'll give him this: he does look like a young Lex to me (even has the right hair for it, even though it's the wrong color). But that's just it: young Lex. Ironically, he's the same age as Henry Cavill, just a couple of months younger.
I don't know, I'm a fan of Eisenberg. We've already seen him play the dick and the businessman and the survivor several times. But...he just doesn't have the bravado for Lex in my eyes. The way he speaks, the way he stands, it's...not Lexish. I hope they don't show him as solely an ass. I think Zuckerber-erm, Eisenberg will do great if they break Luthor down to the level that he was portrayed as in Luthor (seriously, go read it. Make a comixology account and buy the five issues right now to read on your screen). Something a bit more...evil than Smallville's version, but still a hero in his own eyes.

EDIT: Here's a good picture of Jesse where I can see Lex's facial features in him.
    http://i.huffpost.com/gen/1160450/thumbs/o-JESSE-EISENBERG-INTERVIEW-facebook.jpg

And here's a speech from Lex Luthor: Man of Steel issue 5 that I can see Eisenberg pulling off with his own arrogance (though edited for his own speech patterns with things like "well, then...then")
I see your eyes. I know of all your remarkable "visions," but let me tell you what you can't see: my soul. And there's not a soul in Metropolis who watched Hope drop that monster, and given the same opportunity? Wouldn't have done it themselves. Not a soul. How does that make you feel, you arrogant alien *******?

Your silence speaks volumes...you understand my words, but you refuse to believe what they mean. Is that because you see something in humanity that in truth isn't there, or that you're blind to what truly is? Say something, goddamnit!

"You're wrong. I can see your soul."

No...you can't. Because if you could, you would see a man, who willingly denied himself happiness, who chose to give up hope for the world. A world without a Superman. I know I can't beat you...alone. But then, I'm not alone. There are six and a half billion of me and only one of you. And we can drive you back out to the blackness from which you came. What the world watched you do tonight...if it only chances one mind about what you are...

    Please, just fly away.

'what gives measure to a man's choices is what he has to give up to make them. I am a man.'

Realistically, a lot of people are debating right now the status of bat man. no one else is really a focus and this is the people who are potraying them many feel it should have been christian bale but I'm not sure. I'm pretty mixed about this If it's done right it could be successful but it's off to a bad start to be honest with christian bale not potraying batman atleast from what i've seen so far it is but I shouldn't be so negative there's still hope

I think the reason it's not Chritian Bale is firstly, I think he didn't want to play Batman any more, and secondly, this is based in a different universe to the "dark knight rises" trilogy. I think they felt they finished it off sufficiently and it shouldn't be poked at any more. "Batman" as a character is not confined to Christian Bale, I too was sad when I heard he wouldn't play but upon some reflection I think it was an excellent choice. This allows them to completely start the batman series again, I doubt they'll make any more Batman films right away but having a fresh batman would allow a different character development.

Yeah he didn't want to carry on Batman role. I know that a character shouldn't be stuck to an actor It does feel weird though we've had Christian bale playing batman since 2005. Almost 10 years for us it's hard not to see him as batman but yeah. Change shouldn't be neglected. This movie itself though I don't know I wasn't too fond of man of steel itself hopefully they'll hear the criticisms and improve this movie as a whole to be memorable :C

Same here, I liked Man of Steel (it's sadly the only Superman film I have seen from start to finish) but not with a burning passion, enough to enjoy watching the first time but never plan on watching again. I do hope they can improve upon this as I recon DC need to contend with Marvel sales. I am still not 100% sure why the film wasn't SOILJDFLIJ AMAZING because I can't pick up much that I didn't like about it, I just didn't enjoy it that much.

The fact it's a Batman/superman crossover has me intrigued though and I look froward to seeing this pan out as legitimate crossovers always excite the fans because there is another dynamic added to the film.

I'm interested but not to the point i'll keep up to date with it. Personally like i said I hope that they will get the script done for the deadpool movie. Well actually they have the script done it's just that they need fox to give the OK for it. I'll be excited for a deadpool movie if it ever gets officially announced to be filmed really. :C Maybe some hope for 2015 does this movie with Superman and batman even have a release date yet anyways?

I think we are currently looking at May 2016 as it was recently pushed back from July 2015 but nothing concrete yet. It also has Wonder Woman in which would be interesting to ring her to a modern audience as she feels a bit like an old superhero since she hasn't had loads of coverage in this modern age despite being one of the most famous female superheroes.

It's all a build up as awell to the justice leauge movie I believe which was announced alongside Avengers 2 no? though it seems like a good idea it feels like everyone focusing on these superhero organizations now such as Avengers, Justice leauge, Watchmen, guardians of the galaxy. It feels good I guess they're doing something with these though because it gives me hope for a weapon x movie (Wolverine deadpool and a few others) uh x force. overall I just really hope they consider a x force movie atleast or anything with deadpool.

but 2016 seems really far off for a movie production but POTC 5 is going to be around there as well.

First: the fact that they're trying to apply the same Dark Knight gritty realism brooding darkness feel to freaking SUPERMAN. THE GUY WHO LOOKS LIKE THIS:

While I don't completely hate Man of Steel, it misses the mark a lot with the character of Superman. Far too much time spent with Krypton when we could have gotten the necessary details in less than 5 minutes, a very confusing message about whether Clark should be Superman and help people or LET PEOPLE DIE FOR HIS SECRET (the writers really shouldn't have tried this because it ended up as a mess with Clark's dad who is supposed to be a huge inspiration for his persona,) splintering Clark's life into so many mixed up flashbacks and flash-forwards that we barely get to see him develop from the overwhelmed child with god-like powers to the hero he's supposed to become, Lois Lane's interesting characteristics being dropped during the second act, allowing him to destroy a city during the Zod battle (protecting the city is usually Superman's most important objective,) the film utterly lacked a sense of the joy about being Superman until the last 3 or so minutes, that dreadfully forced romance between Clark and Lois with little chemistry, and introducing many supporting characters that...ultimately meant nothing after their first few minutes on screen to move the plot forward.

But hey, them action scenes. And it was still more entertaining than Superman Returns. But did we really need another superhero origin film? Can't we be done with these?

My hopes for this new film are so low after The Dark Knight Rises and Man of Steel that it couldn't possibly be as disappointing as I'm expecting, which means at least that even the least impressive stuff can seem more impressive. At first, I was skeptical about Batman and Wonder Woman having their origin films skipped, but it actually sounds like a good idea now...though I'd still have preferred if they each got their own individual film anyway, simply to establish their character (NOT THEIR ORIGINS AGAIN.)

    I wouldn't have any interest...

If it didn't mark the film debut of Wonder Woman as well. Let's hope she saves it.

I say this because I have been conditioned to expect the utmost disappointment, and I'm quite certain they will screw it up in some way or another.

I have a feeling that Superman will met Batman and Batman will ask Superman to ride on his batmobile. It looks as it 'Man Of Steel 2' was delayed until 2015 or 2016.

You think they might use this to diverge into another Batman series? I really think it's a possibility.

I don't have a source other than this article but apparently Cyborg has been added to the film.
Ugh. What? I can't even process this right now. DC trying to force Cyborg on people yet again. And with the Justice League movie coming what is the point of this movie now? I didn't even want a Superman/Batman movie in the first place because we needed more time with Superman, but now there's Wonder Woman, Nightwing (I think), and now Cyborg. And that's all I know of. I'm sure there will be more. The hype for this movie is so low right now.

I want to say more but I'm just so floored by this I can't even think straight.

That's my biggest issue with the decision. Eisenberg's form of bravado, while lovely, is much more nervous and passive-aggressive. The Luthor I know is terse, selfsure, and strong-willed; he speaks decisively and with authority, and he never backs down. If Eisenberg can mold himself to suit that role then more power to him, but given his history it seems like too much to expect. He's a great actor, just not the one I'd envision for the part.

I'm sry belo /shoulderpat I know this must be hard for you

But hey, at least the cast isn't whitewashed :L

I don't know. I really think Eisenberg can pull it off, but it'll be a different personification of Lex that we're used to seeing. I'm more excited than wary to see him do it, but at the same time...still cautious.

About Cyborg (in addition to Wonder Woman), I think DC is trying to pull a Marvel without pulling a Marvel. I've always heard that if DC does a movie for each hero and then a massive team-up title, specifically one where they're fighting an alien invasion (Darkseid), then it can be seen as trying to copy Marvel's formula. If they went the other way and created a Justice League movie first and then spin-off into individual movies, then would we care about the characters? Seeing Batman interact with the others without seeing his reasoning for having the cowl and the paranoia would just make him seem like...a dick. At least, that was a semi-prevalent consensus I noticed.
I think DC is trying to do a Phase 1 type thing using only Superman. I mean, Superman is kind of the central hero of the DCU and, assuming Darkseid will be connected with him in some form or another, will be the opposing factor of the eventual Justice League villain so for them to use him and only him to create their universe, well I can see that happening. It's not copying Marvel so DC can avoid being accused of not having their own ideas (it's funny. I notice that DC and Marvel themselves aren't entirely against each other; it's the fans that pit them against each other) while at the same time not being accused of trying an extreme (Justice League first, then solo films). That's my theory anyway.

I don't mind this AT ALL, but my problem is that it doesn't give any of the heroes enough screen time and it's going to be crammed and either be rushed or take too long. There's a chance I may be wrong about the characterization; I mean, Cyborg (in the DCnU anyway) was a football player on the way to a scholarship who didn't have his scientists' dad approval and when confronting him about it, got blown into by an interdimensional portal during the outbreak of aliens. To save him, his dad grafted new technology into him and Cyborg found himself fighting with Supes and Bats and the rest. I can see THAT playing out in Justice League while a football player with "Stone" on his jersey makes a cameo or has a short scene in Man of Steel 2 (CAN WE PLEASE STOP CALLING IT 'BATMAN VS. SUPERMAN?' I DON'T CARE HOW MANY OTHER HEROES ARE IN IT, IT'S CLARK'S FILM. AT LEAST PUT HIS NAME FIRST).

As for the other characters, I'm not entirely sure how big Batman's role will be, but I'm pretty sure that they're going not going to throw Wonder Woman in full-on Amazon garb and all her God of War galore into the movie (PLEASE MAKE HER THE GOD OF WAR LIKE IN THE NEW 52. THAT SHOULD BE HER SET OF MOVIES). I'm sure Gal (I don't see the problem with her role. She's going to beef up some for the role, obviously. Though I don't think she has a body capable of gaining too much muscle) will have a few scenes, maybe as an ambassador or during the fight, maybe even extra-credits....but I doubt she'll be Wonder Woman in this film. If it was up to me, my set of films would be Superman, World's Finest, Trinity, Justice League for Phase 1 IF they're trying to stick solely to Superman films.

My problem is whether or not DC should include Arrow in its DCU, but that's a thread for another day.

I just worry that the goal is to portray a certain "new billionaire" persona—like they're trying too hard to be progressive and avant-garde with a classic character who hasn't been at his prime in a while anyway. Basically I'm wondering if they intend to have Eisenberg play the part or have the part play Eisenberg, if that makes sense. I dunno, I'm never sorry to see him so it probably won't upset me either way.

Do you mean in the way that Amazing Spider-Man wanted to use a more modern definition of the word "nerd?"

If so, I would agree, but I don't think they're going to try a definition like that for "billionaire." Mostly because I read a while back about the plan for Lex's backstory (I can't 100% confirm if it'll be the final version since this was revealed right after Eisenberg got cast. It might change, it might've been wrong to begin with, I don't know). Pretty much, Lex will be man-made. http://www.latino-review.com/news/2014/02/exclusive-just-exactly-lex-luthor-batman-vs-superman
If what the link said is true, I think it's most likely has changed by now or will before the movie comes out. However, I'm going to be hopeful and assume that they'll keep the idea of Lex working his way up from the streets in some way instead of a "new billionaire" persona.

Every time I learn something new about this movie my expectations take a nose dive...
