Or, they are just dolls and everyone is just looking for an excuse to blame their problems on.

I do agree that Barbie is a bad influence. I used to play with them when I was little, but they were the Sleeping Beauty and Rapunzel Barbies. Barbie's showing that you need to be blonde-haired and blue eyed and anorexic to be happy. I'm happy, and I'm not any of those things...except blonde...but I got my tips dyed Axel-red to counter-act it....whatever.

And anyhoo, me and my friends celebrated the day after Valentine's day (My one friend calls it National Break-up Day. Yeah, he's single. XP) by throwing around a Barbie doll, then throwing it in the trash and covering it with yogurt. ^_^

    And 6 inch heels.

And being super-skinny and have large breasts does not make people like you, either.

My school gave all the girls a talk about anarexia(sp?). And they made a life-sized Barbie that was so skinny that the weight of her breasts made her fall over... The point was well taken...

Traditionally, courses such as math and science were discouraged to the female gender. Rather courses such as home ec were encouraged since that was more 'acceptable' for a female to learn about. Gender roles.

I always used to behead my Barbies and use the head to open my zippers on my backpacks and jackets. :3

But yes, they need to bring back the ballgowns for the dolls or at least make them look more...'classy'. Not these trampish get-ups.

i kinda think its not ALL that bad, but when they dress barbie up in ****ty clothes, and make her sooo skinny, i wonder how many kids actually notice and feel they should look the same way as their doll.

idk, i find it sad that dolls have'ta look like that, but what can be done?

Yknow, I thought it was stupid that dolls HAD to look that way, but then i saw a doll that DIDN'T, and it was a bit disturbing.

I mean, Barbie is fine being skinny, the problem is the kids who have such low self esteem that they think they have to look like a freaking doll with plastic boobs.

    What's wrong with the world?

I don't really consider Barbie to be a bad role-model. It's just supposed to be a doll that girls can play with, change her, and do things with imagination. Yeah, the doll isn't anatomically correct but it's a doll, and there are a ton of dolls out there that aren't 'human proportionate'. Baby dolls don't all look like real babies, even. There are also different colored hair Barbie dolls etc, so the 'blond' deal isn't such a big one now. Children also would see Barbie has various talents and it motivates them to play so that Barbie and her friends can do multiple things and it builds on their imaginations. As adults, we can see things wrong with Barbie but little kids aren't going to see them. They just see a pretty doll they can dress up. If teens think they should have to look like 'Barbie' it's mostly because of the models we have, the manikins with clothes on them at the stores, and the way camera angles take pictures or movies of celebs to make them look more in an image people want to see.

As for Bratz, those dolls are just examples of people like Parasite Hilton as teens and supposedly 'cool' but yes, those to me are far worse examples on children than Barbie could be. Barbie is usually seen as 'good natured' and well, a decent person whereas Bratz are meant to be spoiled rich teenage preppy girls that are too good for anyone. It really does send a bad image that "Image" is everything to girls. They are also the types of girls that did anyone but that clique really like them or want to be around them? Yech.

Hear hear, Repliku. That was a good point.

Before Barbie there were paper dolls. No one complained about them being anatomically incorrect, so why now?

those bratz dolls are so anorexic(sp?) looking. dont even get me started about the movie. barbie used to have the ball gowns and now theyre wearing miniskirts and tops that could pass for a swimsuit.
