Episode three..just wha, bleh, IT WAS SO GOOD!

But just had a couple of thoughts about the series as a whole (no spoilers).

I thought bending was inherited, so how can Bolin and Mako have different bending abilities? My only theory is that one parent was an earth bender and one a fire bender.
Also I though Appa was the last flying Bison, so how can there be another shown at the start of the series?

I wonder about how they have different abilities too. Another theory to add is that maybe they're not blood brothers.
As for the Bison, maybe they found another group of Bisons? I mean in the first series they thought Dragons were extinct but they found two. Or Bisons have a longer life span and that is Appa.
Ah this is why I love time skips, it takes what you know and makes it all new again! :D

First of all can I say ... CALLED IT!!!

So who else thinks that we're gonna get a heart to heart with Aang soon about the whole Energybending thing that Aang did to Ozai?

I didn't see that coming. Who would have thunk Amon had that sort of power? I can see a heart to heart with Aang soon but Korra was never good at the spiritual side of being an Avatar so she may have some trouble actually connecting with his spirit. Maybe it'll progress through dreams and such.

I thought the episode was a good one. Unfortunately it reinforces Makorra. B|
But I really like how Bolin is kind of like Sokka in the sense for comedy relief. It just wouldn't be the same without those kind of lovable characters.

    Just finished Episode 3.

OH GOD I LOVE THIS SHOW

Such awesome battle scenes against the Chi Blockers, and d'awww more Makorra :D
I really felt a sense of dread when Amon called up Bolin too. I care for these dudes :<

Kinda wonder about how Amon got that ability...almost made me feel like Aang had to have some kind of connection, since he's the only one who's been known to use it...

Also, I admit, I laughed out loud when Korra got embarrassed from Tenzin's daughters bugging her about Mako :]

Personally, I really don't believe that was energybending. We've seen energybending twice, once when the Lion Turtle performed it on Aang to give him the ability, and another time when Aang performed it on Ozai. Both times, the user put his hands on the head and chest of the recipient, and a bright glow occurred. Neither of those happened in Amon's demonstration.

I believe it's an advanced form of chi blocking. I also doubt it's permanent, probably just harder to reverse than normal chi blocking

Finally got around to watching episodes 2 and 3. Probending looks pretty badass. Also, Bolin<3 I'm loving this guy. I usually don't ship, but if I did, I'd go for Korra and Bolin. I loved Korra's reaction to the tablets in her airbending training. "Screw this! *firebends everything*"
I was thinking this. I was also thinking something along the lines of the Triple Triad being in league with him and faking it, but that seems unlikely as the guy didn't change poses or anything so I doubt the lightning would turn to fire. Also, unless he planned for something to happen, he would have had to take care of Bolin so I doubt the victims were in on it. So an advanced form of chi blocking makes sense.

And what are the chances that Amon and Mako/Bolin were victims of a firebender?

Wolfie and I were talking about this earlier. We think it's probably him being so skilled at Chi Blocking he can block the Chakras (specifically the one at the crown of the head), and using the myth of Energybending as a scare tactic. Though, the permanency is still an issue.

If it's actually a chakra block it's definitely not permanent, Aang got his chakra blocked for a while but he fixed it.

I agree with everybody, I don't think it's really energybending like what Aang did to Ozai. I think this is just a advanced chakra block.

And there is one thing that gets to me. All the benders look like complete wusses, yet they can do all the these advanced fighting techniques. During the arena battles in the episode 2, you could tell they were all getting really tired and weak after constantly bending right? Yet, we see Mako can do lightning???? What is up with all this???

    I wonder ...

Amon said the spirits talked to him ... and he's also had his face stolen. What if instead of it being taken by a firebender like he said, he actually had a run-in with Koh and didn't keep a straight face.

    Hmmm ...

Possible, might explain on how he might have possibly learned to block chakras, but I think that this firebender that burned his face, might also be the firebender that killed Mako's parents. I think that this firebender is going to play a important role later on down the road I bet.

Interesting idea! It'd be great if they brought that in. Or maybe
he IS Koh, come to get revenge on the Avatar for besting him.
This is just wild speculation now though

But why would he attack Amon's family and Mako's/Brolin's family in that case? If this Firebender is plot-relevant, my bet is that he's voiced by Dante Brasco.

I don't think that's the case. If you look close enough he does have eyes underneath the mask. I think it was just a way of saying his face was burned to a point of no recognition.
