Also I wanted to outline something if this hasn't been discussed yet..but did I just see what looks like Bumi Air bending..?

You think he as well might have had some trouble with the spiritual side of Air bending like Korra?

Just finished watching the first three episodes on TV. I'll spoiler tag it too just in case:

I really like that we're seeing more interaction between Korra and Asami again, and it's friendly rather than that love-triangle-angst shit that got boring quickly before. Korra herself is coming off as more intelligent and likable too, though it wasn't that much yet. Still liked how she talked down one of the new Airbenders. Tenzin becoming visibly frustrated at nobody wanting to become an Airbender was great at showing a more human personality (and his salesman-esque scenes were hilarious.) Honestly, I was at first hoping Mako wouldn't join everyone else for the journey with how annoying/uninteresting he'd been in the last two Books, but seeing him in Ba Sing Se really made him more likable to me for some reason. Kai's alright; I like him for his comedic relief but haven't found much interest in him beyond that and the cliffhanger of The Earth Queen. I'm really glad to see the series exploring the Earth Kingdom again, and I hope we'll see the Fire Nation too: what I've seen of the Earth Kingdom was really neat, what with the differing rings of society. The new villains...well, there's barely any info on them, but I do really like how they all fight so far. It was really cool seeing Zuko again. I've missed his wisdom mixed with awkward humor.

All in all, Book 3 is so far feeling a tiny bit awkward, but that's something to expect with a Book titled "Change," and so far, I'm liking most of the changes

Watching the first five episodes I have a feeling this book is going to be better than the others. But is it bad that I hope Korra actually does get kidnapped. I mean it would be interesting to see how that scenario would be handled.

Watched episodes Four and Five today.

I'm liking how this Book is going so far still. All of the new characters they've been introducing have been interesting to me. Well, at first Kai was annoying, being that bratty kid who is just there for hijinx, but the plot they make him go through made him a lot more interesting. Maybe they could have made it longer? Feel like that could have been done more effectively. Opal's adorable too. And the fight scenes...hnnnnnnnnng.

    EDIT:

So, Nickolodeon are taking Legend of Korra off of its TV spot, and moving it to a mainly digital medium, for an indefinite period of time.

Sad to see this happen, but I don't find it all that surprising given how Book 2 botched so many things.

To be honest, I think it's more because of the televised viewings that Book 2 & 3 have been pulling in rather than the quality of the show itself ( even though I agree Book 2 was poop :b ).

The first Book of Korra averaged around 3.6ish million people; the first two episodes had the most draw (understandably) at 4.458 million viwers, but the viewers were still at a decent count and were pretty stable throughout the rest of the Book. The timeslot for the entire season was 11AM EST on Saturdays.

Book 2 had a hit to the ratings from the get go; only 2.6 million viewers in the first two episodes. This was not only after a very lengthy hiatus, but Nick also pushed Korra into a new timeslot at 7PM on Fridays, which is usually around the time other channels to premiere their new episodes as well (and to a lesser extent, people go out on Friday nights) Then after about episodes 4 or 5, the slot was changed to 8:30 PM instead. Then after episode 8, it got changed again to 8PM. This isn't even to mention the disaster that was showing the LAST FOUR EPISODES online, a week before the two finale episodes were even supposed to air; the final episode was even finished barely three days before Nick put it up online.

Book 3 was officially announced a week before it aired
, and received hardly any kind of promotion. As a result, it received only 1.5 million viewers, and has been straggling below that ever since. I've seen and heard of people who had no idea Korra was back until last week's episodes aired. My brother has to ask me when Korra is on, and he watches Nickelodeon regularly!

It's important to note that Nick, for whatever reason, also does not count online viewings as part of the total for Korra. They have it, they just don't report it. Which is incredibly odd, and has been leading even more credence to the prevalent thought that Nick just does not give a **** about the show anymore. Even though Books 1 and 2 were pretty poor, there is absolutely no way that over two million people just up and dropped the show because they didn't like the first two seasons. I could imagine 500,000, maybe even closer to 1 million dropping it because it isn't what they wanted, but to explain a discrepancy of that many people, there is something bigger happening behind the scenes, and it is definitely Nick's doing.

Nick has been running an absolute ****show with Korra, and I wouldn't be surprised if this was the last of the Avatar world that they end up producing on the network.

Well, I didn't say it was only some of the writing that caused this...honestly, the scheduling didn't affect me, since I just watched the episodes recorded.

Still, shame on Nick for shooting themselves in the foot with one of their best shows (still nowhere near as good as Avatar: The Last Airbender, but Korra's had some great moments mixed in with the crap)

Book 3 has been really frikin solid thus far. I don't know how they're doing it (compared to the writing that was all over the place in Book 2), but dang. The villains are very interesting, we're meeting some really cool side characters (Lin's sister for example), and the existing characters have all been great. Korra is actually a really cool protag!
MOST OF ALL WE'RE GETTING SOME ASAMI COOLNESS.

also varrick being back is the best thing ever.

Honestly, i'm really curious where this leads. The fight scenes have been amazing and honestly it feels like they're leaving the best for the villains.

Sad to see that it has become digital only. I hate Nick so much for doing that.

If you ask me, it's MundoNick's fault. They should have been more careful.

At the same time, though, just because there were leaks doesn't mean they had to show the trailer and premiere the book early. When were the trailer and book originally scheduled to premiere, anyway?

If you ask me, if they had kept it on the original schedule, they would have gathered more viewers when the book premiered. However, like I said in Haya's thread in The Spam Zone, 1.5 million viewers is still a lot, and they should be happy with that.

And why couldn't they have kept it at two for tomorrow and then have the rest on digital?

Edit: And if Nickelodeon would just stop and think, they'd see the decline in ratings is from the short notice of the season premiere, not because less people like it.

The worst thing about Nick clearly not caring at all about the Avatar series is that they probably own the rights in some capacity. It seems unlikely that Korra could pull a Futurama and jump ship to a new network

Move to digital platform aside, I am seriously liking Book Three more and more. The fact that these villains almost feel like a dark version of Team Avatar is awesome, and so is seeing the main characters not acting stupid. The storyline is honestly more engaging than ever.

    MOTIVES REVEALED
    • Red Lotus is an off shoot of the White Lotus because the White Lotus came out of secrecy and began to publicly serve governments/nations.
    • Unalaq was with them and that's how he (and all of them) learned about Wan and Raava/Vaatu.
    • Opening the Spirit Portals was part of their plan to restore balance.
    • Unalaq was in cohoots with Zaheer but betrayed them and pursued his own "selfish agenda" aka Dark Avatar stuff (lmao what a pal what a guy).
    • Zaheer wand the rest of the Red Lotus want to topple governments and return society to a chaotic state -- eventually from the chaos, balance will be restored.

Is Zaheer in the wrong? Is it better to leave people like the Earth Queen in charge? Is it best to keep to a status quo like Ba Sing Se has always been without trying to made drastic shifts? THIS IS THE ****ING PLOT I'VE WANTED TO SEE OUT OF THIS DAMN SHOW SINCE BOOK ONE FLOPPED AMON. Everything with Ba Sing Se, the Air Nation, Zao Fu, it is all tying into the bigger plot and all of it seems well planned and, most importantly, deliberate. There hasn't been anything they've shown so far that hasn't had some relation to the conflict, except for maybe the issue with the spirits back in the first episode, although they kinda addressed that here with Zaheer's point about chaos and the spirits in the Misty Palms Oasis area shown getting along pretty alright (barring that one innkeeper).

Book 3 has been killing it so far, and I'm so curious as to what the Red Lotus' plans for Korra are once they've got her. It doesn't seem like they want to off her or anything like that, but it has to be something that'll stop her from opening up fire blasts in their faces, lol.

Knowing Nick, I thought it would have been 12:00 PM Pacific. Oh, well.

Just finished it, and I of course enjoyed it. Since there are still a few episodes left in this book, it's pretty obvious Team Avatar will escape in the next episode, methinks.

So does anyone know if the episodes are going to be released one-by-one from now on or if there are going to be two this Friday?

Watched episode 10 yesterday, and it was great!

Shame about the Earth Queen, though.

    She was murdered.

    goooooood this booooook

    bosco has been avenged

Airbending when used for violence is brutal. At least Fire, Water, and Earth all have some limitations to them (abundance of their element, climate conditions, etc.), but really the only thing keeping an Airbender from going to town looks like it's only their cultural teachings and how much they want to stick to that.

We got hints Airbenders have broken this before -- Yangchen secured a war-free world for her Avatar era and all Kuruk's, Gyatso had a trail of corpses leading up to his body, and Aang (albeit, distraught due to Appa's kidnapping in Book 2), slayed a buzzer that tried stealing Momo.

On other parts of the episode, KORRASAMI DESERT ADVENTURE WAS GREAAAAAAAAAAT. I loved that Asami finally got some time to shine since Book One, and everyone took the time to appreciate what she did & how valuable she was. This is how the nonbending character should be utilized, especially one with as engineering/inventive a mind as Asami in what amounts to the Industrial Age of the Avatarverse.

Korra was also really good here. I think they've finally reached a healthy balance of her character's aggression & using that in a productive manner. This has been something that's been happening all throughout B3, but still something to note. Also I love that they all worked together, they make a cute little team.

The Dai Li got wrecked in what was possibly record timing, which I felt served to show how credible a threat the Red Lotus really is. Ghazan tearing down the wall was both beautiful just from a pure animation standpoint and was plain BADASS to boot. I'm happy that the Wall is gone as it has been probably the symbol of the classist oppression in Ba Sing Se since...forever really, but the rioting and pillaging happening now isn't something to be ecstatic about in the least, and I'm sorta worried about Mako/Bolin's family and how they'll be fairing in that mess.

Lin was gold and that shot of her/Tonraq/Zuko at the table was hilarious. Bolin talking to Ghazan and Ming Hua was great.

And I mean plus I got a scene of Asami looking smug while Korra was all tied up that looked like a straight up bondage scene SO VERY GOOD EPISODE FOR ME.

I can't wait for the next episode.

Tenzin, Bumi, and Kya took a really bad beating, and just from how these types of shows work (where the good guys never truly lose), I can say with 99% certainty that Korra and the rest of the gang will get there just in time to rescue them (and maybe even defeat Zaheer and his group) in the next episode.
