To me, it seems like the writers did it so early to try getting it out of the way ASAP and concentrate on the plot. Romance is really impossible to avoid when the majority of the cast is teenagers, and the main demographic audience is teenagers (not only audience obviously). I don't think it'll be that big a thing once Makorra happens (it will), and I totally agree with you on the philosophical stuff.

Well when you look at it that way, I guess it kinda makes sense. I just also hope getting it out of the way quickly doesn't complicate things further down the road.
Iroh was for me, the best thing that happened to ATLA (though pretty much everything else is awesome too). Now, I don't expect them to bring in another person like him, but if there aren't any wise words or things with meaning and substance like before, I'll be pretty sad.

I have a theory, and the more I think about it, the more sense it makes. (Do not open spoiler if you haven't seen the leaked image and don't want to know about Amon's identity)

I think Amon could be...TENZIN'S BROTHER! :O shocker right? Because, we know that Tenzin is an airbender, the other sibling (I can't remember which) is a waterbender and the third had apparently no powers. Now imagine growing up like that. Your two siblings are benders. Your mother is a waterbending prodigy. Your father is the freaking Avatar, and you are born without any bending powers at all. Maybe he felt like a failure and all his life was overshadowed by his more powerful siblings. But then he later discovered that he did indeed have a bending power...soulbending. He uses it on all benders because of his feelings of inferiority as a child. Now Tenzin says that only the Avatar has ever been able to soul bend. BUT it wasn't just that he was the avatar, he was Aang, and maybe soul bending can be passed on genetically, just like other forms. However as no one anticipated this, nobody trained him, and his powers lay dormant until his adult life, where he began to train until he was ready to become Amon.

I personally don't think Amon is anyone in particular other then Amon ...

I don't want him to be "somehow related to another one of the characters", because I think that makes it too easy? I would like him to have an interesting backstory like Zuko did, but to be honest, I think it would be a bit cliché for him to be a long lost brother or something. For the record, Tenzin's brother - who is a non-bender - is called Bumi and is still alive. We've seen his picture in a ... something ... so he may turn up in the series, just as Tenzin's sister might also.

His name was Bumi and he had dark skin. We can tell from the skin behind Amon's mask that he is light-skinned.

Hat tip to Saxima for this insight.

You all got to forgive me, I am never home/ and or LoK doesn't show on my nick, so I have to watch it when it gets updated on the nick website and I just saw the new episode. I really didn't like how korra treated bolin, because bolin is awesome, he is no sokka, but close. And I saw something towards the end of the episode that I had a question/ was curious about.
The current champions of pro bending, when they fought, and the other team had was being carried out on the stretchers, one of the mask had a hole in the glass, didn't know if anybody else saw that or not, but what do you think could have cause it. I saw say that their firebender bent some lightning and it was just barely enough to just punch a hole through the glass/plastic or whatever it is, and not kill. Or that was a really fine tuned bullet of fire. Your thoughts?

    Finished viewing the 5th episode.
While I thought the love plot moved a bit quicker than expected, it was great to see the pro bending matches and how their teamwork suffered.

I agree, the series hasn't been portraying as much morals and having a wisdom-based aspect like the first one. I just hope Tenzin plays a stronger part in that regard.

I'm not entirely sure, but I'm pretty sure it's against the rules to use lightning. But I do know that it's against the rules for Earthbenders and Firebenders to aim at the head.

Yeah, I was really curious so I went to the avatar wikia, and I read that waterbenders can't use any different form of water other than water (no ice, no steam) fire and earthbenders can't aim for the head. Earthbenders can only use the disk that are provided in the ring, no metalbending, waterbenders can only use water from the grates, and not the pool below. And waterbenders and firebenders can only take a one second duration to form fire and water and throw it. So now I'm really curious as to how they managed to pierce the glass/plastic on the helmet....

They shot him. With a gun.

Nah, I don't know either. Perhaps a highly pressurized shot of water?

Well now I know how they got that hole in the mask from the last episode. Cheating *******s! And on note for this episode, DAMNNNNN. They wrecked. Very intense episode this time. I hope it continues like this only getting better in action.

    Thoughts from episode 6:
    • I feel bad that Tahno lost his bending
    • I can't wait until Korra goes into the spirit world and speaks to Aang
    • It's going to be amazing when she finally manages airbending
    • Bei-fong is such a bad ass
    • And she tried to put Pema in jail? LOL
    • Tahno might be the key to finding out how to reverse how Amon takes bending away. Because realistically to that extent Amon is too powerful as of now to overcome if he keeps reverting benders to non-benders. Since he's not the avatar I can speculate that Korra can somehow reverse this.
    • "I'm wetting my pants right now" omg I laughed so hard
    • Asami and Mako...I wonder what's going to go down with that
    • I wonder if Katara will teach Korra blood bending
    • Flashbacks. What do they mean?
    • SO COOOOOOL best episode yettt imo

Holy crap that episode was beast.

So who else found themselves yelling at the referees watching the championship game? I was legitimately getting pissed off at the cheating, and was even hoping for Amon to show up and take down the Wolfbats. Still, kinda felt bad for Tahno, I guess.

    Aang and Toph and Sokka! I need to know more. Stop teasing us ;.;

And I'm starting to get like, something of a Dark Knight feel from what's going on. Explosions in public areas, heroes being called out by the antagonist, etc.

    This show. I love it.

Episode 6 FINALLY won me over. Gees. I wasn't really getting into the show until this episode because
of all the lovey dove stuff, and everything seemed like it was being crammed into 22 minutes and it was just... bleh. But I think it was because the previous episodes were leaked, so that's why it was the way it was. But HOLY CRAP! Episode 6 was amazing! The pacing was perfect, the fighting was AWESOME! And the character development was wonderful. My stomach was in knots when they were in the water and the guy electrocuted them. Made me soooo sad and wanting to puke all at the same time. T~T

Also, the humor wasn't forced like it seemed it was in the previous episodes. I mean, in the most intense parts where they had a little bit of humor, it made me chuckle instead of facepalm.

I'm kind of glad that the Wolfbats cheated, or else that could have been Mako in Tahno's place.

Really enjoyed the episode for moving the story forward as well as some other discoveries.

More Pro-Bending is always great.... Having Tenzin and Lynn in a previous relationship was interesting to see. And even with a slightly more serious episode, the Announcer still talking before getting electrocuted was hilarious.

    Don't know why I laughed so hard at this scene;
    Sad music starts to play*
"Lynn and I had been growing apart for some time. We both had... different goals in m- WHY AM I EVEN TELLING YOU THIS!"
