Avatar: A New Hope

Kouri stalked slowly through the coastal forest, a gleaming spear of ice in her hands. As small amounts of the ice melted she refroze it, an act that came naturally to her after two years in the Earth Kingdom. A dead rabbit was slung over her shoulder, killed by her spear. Several minutes later she sat in her makeshift camp, eating cooked Rabbit meat. A pile of charred logs was all that remained of her fire, the spear resting on a fallen log, slowly melting now that Kouri was not maintaining it.

Once she was done eating, Kouri took the spear in her hands and willed it to melt. Soon liquid water was suspended in the air, which she slowly and precisely re-shaped into a curved sword, then she froze it solid and griped the hilt in her right hand.

She set out away from the river, heading west toward the great city of Ba Sing Se.

OOC: I'm very sorry at the very late post, I've not had much access to my computer recently.

 

Rolan was helped to a room by the King's royal guards, where they put him on a bed so he could rest. He begun to have nightmares of the days events. The burning smell of flesh, the screaming of women and children. The screams of fire and earth benders a like as they were struck down by each other. Then it began to grow dark, and then he started to have dreams of him when he was a child with his parents. When he first got his Badge Mole, Coco. When he first joined the army of the Earth Kingdom. The day when the Fire Nation first declared war on everybody. They day when his parents left to defend the shore, and when he heard they had been killed. He started rolling around in his slumber, screaming out to his parents, as if they were fading from his memory.

 

OOC:...I'm so lost.

BIC: Aria slowly looked around as she made her way up to the Palace, following the guards. There were scortch marks even here so somehow the fight must have reached the palace. To say this one one of the strongest cities around, that did not get her hopes up for their chances in the war. Still she ignored that thought and tried to think pstitive, they had won this battle at least. She fanned herself more, not really paying much attention to what the guards ahead of her were saying.

She was slightly confused as she entered the thrown room though, there didn't seem to be many people around and the king was nowhere to be seen. She looked at the guards ahead of her who she realised they probably had been explaining if she'd actually listened. She opened her mouth to ask only to be cut short by being launched into the air on a pillar of earth to get to where the others were. They'd probably also have warned about that but it was a bit late now. She smiled at everyone who she was suddenly in the room with as she quickly tried to figure out what was going on.

 

OOC: Alright you guys, things are starting to get a little out of hand, and some of you seem to be confused about what exactly is going on here (including myself).

Ok, after Princess Adena's army was defeated and driven out of the city, Earth King Tasuki sent his Royal Guards to find the benders (and Kyoshi Warrior, of course) who were witnessed fending them off, and bring them back to his palace. At the palace, Rolan and Draco (me and Soap's characters) are unconscious in the DEN, and Adena is chained up in the throne room. The first bender to be brought is Roku (a fugitive of the Fire Nation). Him and Adena had some type of romantic history I guess, so when they saw each other they immediately began to break down and have some kind of emotional scene.
THEN the King had Adena sent to the Ba Sing Se Prison while he figured out how to use her to his advantage, and Roku went into the DEN.
Around this time two young Waterbenders, Kota and Kai (Myst and Sokka), arrived at Ba Sing Se for reasons that were rather confusing...even for myself...
But no matter! The point is that they arrived with the intention of assisting the King in any manner they could in order to help fight off the Fire Nation.

Meanwhile:
- Liao (Cuttlefish) after being brought to the palace decided to go wandering around the destroyed city.
- Kouri (Rapid Ignis) is headed to Ba Sing Se for unspecified reasons from her home in the forest.
- Everyone else is being escorted to the palace by the King's Royal Guards.

Slow down you guys. I'm happy the RP is progressing and there's so much participation, but the story is beginning to get a bit...eh...convoluted? Yes, convoluted. Very convoluted indeed.
Just be calm with your characters right now. Don't go doing some crazy sh*t, we're all supposed to be coming together at this point. Describe what your character is feeling, seeing, thinking, etc. Be elaborate. Rather than a ton of small posts, I want to see a few long, thorough posts.

BIC:

King Tasuki glared at Kota and Kai with cold, discontent eyes. He had graciously welcomed these young boys into his palace, safe from the ash and smoke, now how did they repay his generosity? With disrespect and foul tone. Luckily for them, however, he lacked the energy to really take any action.

"I'm afraid you boys are mistaken." he said, holding the anger in his voice behind gritted teeth. "My duty, and that of my army, is solely to protect the Earth Kingdom. Your priorities differ from mine. I do not intend to attack the Fire Nation, nor do I intend to kill Firelord Ozai, for that is not my responsibility. My only part in this war is to ensure the safety of my people in the case that we are targeted, such as we were today. We defend ourselves. We do not fight back."

He turned his back on them and stepped over to a chest of drawers placed on the side of the room. After sliding one of the drawers open, he shuffled through various papers within it until selecting one that was a bit torn-up. The King then handed the paper to the boys, which turned out to be a flier that read:

ATTENTION!
We are a strong people.
We shall not be oppressed.
We will not be controlled.
We shall rise above.
We shall conquer.
WE are the RESISTANCE!
And WE want YOU to
FIGHT BACK!

​ Beneath the text was a hand-drawn Fire Nation symbol, cracking down the middle.

"Now this...this is what you should be after. It's a movement that began to arise a few short months ago here in my city." said the King. "It has somehow spread quite quickly. Caught the attention of individuals all across the globe who then migrate here in search of this so-called 'Resistance'. Whoever's behind it is the first to challenge the Fire Nation. The first to threaten them. And my prediction is that whoever is a part of it, was also part of the benders who helped fight the FNA off this morning. That's why I sent my guards to find each of those benders...so that I may identify the ones who are behind this movement."​

 

Kai could realize the king had become furious but kept it within. The king walked over to a chest and pulled out a sheet of paper. He handed it to Kai. Kai read the paper and his eyes widened in excitement.

"I apologize, King Tasuki. My anger has gotten the best of me. I would gladly like to meet this resistance. I need to clear my head for a while." Kai said softly. He knew he had been rude beyond belief to someone of high stature. His heart began to ache with pain of what could be done to them. He spoke once more, "I would like to take a walk to the prison and give a piece of my mind to some firebenders and then inform Master Hakoda. In the mean time, allow Kota to join those who appear to be joining. I'll join up with them later."

As Kai finished, he stood up and walked out of the palace to the town. The damage that occurred was devastating. Some Earthbenders were beginning to repair heavily damaged areas. Kai slowly made his way to the prison, thinking of how he could protect Kota and how he could explain what he had said to the Earth King. He thought he could let his anger out on the Fire Nation Troops within the prison. He arrived and began to smack talk many of the newly captured prisoners.

 

Kota considered what the king said.

After what the Fire Nation had done to his parents, Kai had always had a grudge against the fire nation, said that he needed to destroy them. And Kota, being his brother, had always agreed.

But hearing the Earth King speak, Kota began to think. Would it be right to simply attack the Fire Nation like his brother wanted to? Sure, the Fire Nation had struck the first blow, but wouldn't attacking now make Kota and Kai just like them?

Maybe the Earth King was right. Maybe attacking wasn't the right thing to do. Maybe, like his waterbending style, Kota was better off just settling down and helping defend.

But he could not question his brother. He would have to talk to him about this later.

Kota fell to his knees. "I apologize for my behavior, your highness," He said, "And I apologize once more on behalf of my brother. Could you please tell me where I could join the resistance?"

 

adena rolled off the cot, hitting her head on the cement floor. "son of a...nhnn" she reached to rub the back of her head, but her wrists were cuffed behind her. oh...right... the princess stood and extended her arns straight down. She stepped over the chain so that her arms were now out in front. better. Kinda...now how to get out. Her wrists stung from the gashes and she was filthy. There were voices coming from the other side of the door and she banged on the slot with her elbow. "hey! HEY! Answer me!"

 

Kai grew less upset after arguing with many Fire Nation Troops. He walked around for a while. His mind became more clear. He had to join the resistance and take back his family's name. Kota would be waiting for him. He heard loud banging coming from a cell to his left. There was a girl screaming at him. He looked in the cell and he witnessed a beautiful blond banged up with many opened wounds. He couldn't help but feel remorse for this young woman. He spoke with a clear voice, "Why, hello there, Miss. What is someone as pretty as yourself doing in this prison cell. Don't tell me that the king locked you up? You look to innocent do have done anything wrong." He smiled and looked in her eyes and saw sadness and confusion.

 

Adena stopped yelling and a smile had sneaked up on her. This boy was exactly what she needed. She tried to supress the urge to smile and replaced it with a look of hurt. "oh. You're not a guard are you? Much too handsome. Is that a watertribe outfit? How refreshing. Those horrible guards locked me up in here under a complete misunderstanding. They didn't even take the cuffs off me after rudely tossing me into this solitary cell." She held her wrists up to show him through the slot in the door. It was probably used for food so they didn't have to risk injury or prisoners escaping. "These horrible cuffs are digging into my wrists. I have these big painful cuts that keep bleeding." Adena showed him her blood stained sleeves that were ripped up and scortched. It wasn't hard for her to looked pained. Her wrists were in an excruciating amount of pain.

 

King Tasuki watched as Kai rambled on about his sudden excitement, but hardly listened to a word of it. The only words he managed to catch were "I would like to take a walk to the prison and give a piece of my mind to some Firebenders" to which he responded "I wouldn't do that if I were y-" only to be cut off as the young boy rushed out of the palace.

"Damn kid..." he muttered under his breath as the shadow of the Waterbender quickly faded into the distance.

Suddenly the younger sibling, Kota, was bowing at his feet requesting information as to how he could join the Resistence that Tasuki had informed them of.

"My boy," said the King. "Believe me when I say that I am as clueless as you are when it comes to the whereabouts or origins of this 'Resistance'. My only idea as of now is that some of these benders I am gathering here may have something to do with it. Once they all arrive, we can all get acquainted and I shall hopefully get to the bottom of it. Until then, however, I cannot assist you in joining them."

Tasuki then leaned in very closely to Kota, whispering in his ear. "But mark my words young man...no good shall come of this 'Resistance'. My advice would be to stay far away from it if you value your life. The Avatar himself could not defeat Firelord Ozai, what makes you think any of us ordinary benders possibly could?"

Leaving behind only those few, powerful words, King Tasuki left the room.

 

Kai had been moved by the loving words coming from the girl. His heart was racing. He had to let this girl go free. It was wrong to have her held captive. Kai said worrying "I am not a guard. And yes, I am from the Watertribe, it also helps me on these looks I might say. Now about those cuffs." He took some of the water he carried in bottles around his waist. He pushed the water over to the key hole of her tight cuffs and froze it. He twisted the frozen key to unlock her cuffs. "There, that should make you feel a bit better. Listen, I'm going to sneak you out and get those wounds treated. I cant heal you but at least I can freeze the wounds shut." He used the same technique on the door to free her from her cell. "Quickly. Lets go before anyone sees you," he said quickly.

 

Adena pretended to wipe away a tear. She took off her fire nation shirt as she stepped out of the cell, wearing only a dirty tank top and her black pants. She noticed the necklace Roku gave her was back around her neck. It took all her will power not to leave it behind as well. "Thank you so much. But where will we go? I can't stay in Ba Sing Se. I'm a fugitive now and someone might recognize me on our way out of here. Not too many blondes in this city. I need a disguise or something." Hopefully he wouldn't read too much into her request. Her blonde hair sat messily on her shoulders as she trailed her fingers down his arm. whatever it takes to get out of here. She shut the cell door behind herself and closed the slot so that it looked like she were still inside.

 

She came out and grabbed Kai's arm asking to leave Ba Sing Se. His mind began to jump back and forth between Kota and her. She was badly injured and needed support. Being a fugative was not easy either. "My brother is trying to find the ressisstance at the King's palace," Kai said, "I should rea..." A thought occured to him. Kota believed he was old enough to fight in the war. Others would most likely protect him right? He said to the girl, "We will leave the city. I will try and fix you up. You need some defense and I'm here to be your sheild. I'll buy a wig from one of the shops too, but for now wear this." Kai tour off a piece of fabric and he lead her out. They made there way to the outskirts of the city secretly.

 

The princess smiled and wrapped her arms around his left arm, staying close. To anyone that didn't know better, they just looked like a happy young couple. She wiped away her smile when they stepped out into the city. "what happened? The poor city. I couldn't hear anything from that wretched cell. It's destroyed out here." Her face resembled horror, but secretly she was proud. It would take quite some time for the capital to rebuild itself, but even then they would be hurt by all the lives lost. Today had been a devastating blow and the only thing they found satisfactory was about to walk right out the same way she came in. Completely in the open without being questioned. Adena freed one of her hands and tucked the crystals inside her tank top. It used to be white, but was now gray and red from everything she endured. Her pale skin glowed in the sunlight and the warmth pleased her. The sun was a major source of energy in the fire nation and she always liked spending time in it.

 

The girl wrapped around his arm asking what happened. Kai replied, "I heard the Fire Nation infiltrated the city in and went berserk. Oh how I hate them. Killing everyone I care about." He shed a tear after saying this. The past was hitting his heart. The memories of his parents dying in front of him was unbearable. He saw her put a crystal into her shirt. He walked her by his side for a whil until he found a wig shop. He purchased a long haired, black wig for the girl. After getting closer to the entrance, he asked her, "What is your name? What was that crystal?"

 

Adena looked at him shocked. She tucked her blonde hair up in the wig and adjusted it before they left the shop. "oh. Did we not do that already? My names Addie. This," she pulled the necklace back out from under her top, "was a gift from someone I cared for very dearly. I lost him because of the war." It wasn't a complete lie. Her mother used to call her Addie and her relationship with Roku had been ruined because of him being in the army. The boy was making it a lot easier for her to get free than not. "I don't believe you've told me your name yet. I must know who to properly thank for my freedom." She finished adjusting the wig in the mirror and turned smiling at him. "how do I look? Better as a blonde, right?"

 

A bead of sweat rolled down Kota's face as he heard the king's words.

Of course, Kota had known from the very beginning that he had no chance of defeating Firelord Ozai. He believed, and clung to the belief, that he would die trying, and his efforts would help make the task of whoever would defeat the Firelord that much easier.

But only now was he starting to consider that there might not be a person strong enough to defeat him. Ozai was the strongest firebender alive, that much was for certain. But who was the best waterbender? Earthbender? Airbender? The best of his people had been wiped out by fire nation raids years ago, and he couldn't help but wonder if the other nations had faced the same fate. Was there a hope? Could this resistance fight?

Kota needed to think. But more importantly, he needed to discuss all of this with his brother. He left the room to search for him.

 

He looked at her face and saw joy. "The name is Kai, student of Hakoda. It is a pleasure, Addie." He said cheerfully. The next part about her losing someone she cared for made him have great empathy towards her. "We've all lost someone precious to us in this war. I'm sorry that you lost them." After she played with the wig a little she asked his opinion. He replied, "Much better as a blond. This will be a good cover for now, though." They were at the entrance to the city. Once they reached the outside, he could tend to her wounds. Kai couldn't help feeling afraid of how Kota was going to survive, but he knew Kota was not the one to give up. He would fight to the end, as would Kai.

 

OOC: Not quite sure how long this'll have to drag out before Horus meets the Earth King o.o
BiC: Still on the way to the Earth King, multiple thoughts were running through Horus' mind. Would a king of the Earth Kingdom really bait a trap for a firebender? Does he even know i AM a firebender? What will he do if he discovers it? Am i making the right decision? he panicked. His breathing quickened. His attitude changed after a few seconds. So what if he DOES try to execute me? He's an earth bender, i'm a fire bender, i should be fine.

 

Liao walked to the rooms where Draco was staying. She sat next to his bed and looked closely at him."Your and airbender..... Sweet.... Never meet an airbender." She thought as a smiled creeped up on her face. She leaned on the chair until she comfortable, then passed out.Liao started dreaming of her pass and her best friend, it was a good dream of them practicing the waterbending and laughing having a fun time. His face was very vivid she remember every detail of his face even the scar across his right eye, that she tries to forget. A smile appeared on her face, she like making him work, and teasing him about his imperfect techniques. She was happy the happiest she has been in a while, but then she remembered this was still a dream, and the smile disappeared as soon as it was there.
