Max finally found a tree to rest at. As she leaned over the river cleaning her blood off her face.
" Thats the first time I was touched by a real guy." Max looked at her reflection.
She smiled and said," It's kinda relaxing to know you can trust different people, like Vin."

 

Vin sighed and leaned against the tree, without any powers, he could only wait to be found by Mikazuki...or he could go find Ash again. But leaving him alone was probably best.

 

Max was done resting. As she walked to a tree she noticed something she didn't want to.
" That can't be!" Max backed away.
"AAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!"

 

Vin heard a scream, he briefly wondered if he should check it out. Before he knew it, his feet were moving on their own, toward the sound of the scream.

 

A werewolve was holding Max by the neck. " What the...." Max started.
But about 2 minutes later, the werewolve let go of Max, and she fell to the floor not moving.
Her eyes close, and the werewolve took the fang of water with him.

 

Vin came across Max again. He lifted her up in his arms and carried her back to his little campsite he'd made. "I wonder why she's always running from werewolves. Dangerous creatures they are." Ignoring the fact that a real girl was in his arms, he set her down and watched over her as she, what he suspected was sleep.

 

Max was sleeping....well passed out by the werewolve.
Moving her head she opened her eyes......" Vin? Is that you?" She couldn't see very clearly, but her eyes started to close again.
" Am I dead, I can't be... not alone."

 

"You're not dead. Go back to sleep, Max." Vin kept his eyes lowered to the ground after that. It was improper to stare at a woman as she slept.

 

Max finally woke up.
"Vin that is you." Max tried sitting up, but couldn't.
"Sorry for the trouble."

 

Vin glanced over at her, "Hey, no trouble at all. Stay still. I found you passed out in the woods, you screamed. Do you remember what happened?"

 

" The werewolve fang!" Max yelled.
Max put her hand on her neck," It's gone."
Tears started to come out her eyes.
" This can't be.....I have to get it back."

 

Vin reached over and held her down, "You're staying where you are. For now, there is nothing you could do. Fighting werewolves like that...so reckless...you remind me of my little brother, always dashing head first into a fight. Y'know what happened to him? He lost his leg and right arm in a fight once. But still he put his life on the line and eventually got himself paralyzed. He can't move, can't even speak. Trapped in his own body, he put himself there and now he futilely struggles to communicate. I can't stand people that rush in head first like that." Vin had closed his eyes as he spoke. He refused to think of Max like his little brother.

 

Max stayed still, and said," I'm so sorry! It's just... Its really important, and I don't want to ever see you hurt because of me!"
Max thought about the werewolves killing her family.
"Ok.......I'll stay here" she finally said looking in Vin's eyes.

 

Vin felt confused, "What? Hurt...because of you? Please, I don't get hurt." Though he liked Max, he knew he could never put himself in harms way to protect her like he normally would. His bond to Ash wouldn't let him die so easily.

Ash let go of whatever conversation he'd been trying to make and continued walking until he arrived at Kyoko's home. "And thus we arrive!" His aura touched nearly everyone around in the home. He only recognized Kyoko's thread, the other one was similar to hers but very different.

 

Max was ready to go, because she had to find the werewolve fang before they left to the next world.
As Max stood up she said," No matter what we're on the same team, but this is important, and you have people to take care of and protect."
" You might not know what happened to me, but I lost everything I loved, and I can't lose anyone else." Max smiled and walked out.

 

Romeo replied following Ash."Nah,I'll do it."

 

As Max ran out, she notice someone was watching her.
"Nothing is going to stop me....... From stopping them!" I thought
And now it was time to find the Fang and get ready for the Travel.

 

Vin watched Max walk away and sighed. He felt exhausted. Dealing with women was just as frustrating as dealing with Ash.

Ash glanced behind him at Romeo, "Hmm, did you say something?" His necromantic powers tweaked a few of the threads to his liking. "I'd make a big entrance but subtly is more my liking."

 

Romeo shouted "I'll do it!"
