Usually the arlong arc gets people to continue watching/reading. XD
The thing with One Piece is its world building. As the show/manga continues on it builds the world and plot.
Yes, its basically one island one plot at a time, but there is an overlying plot besides luffy wanting to become pirate king.
Things that pop up in one chapter pop up in a future chapter in ways you'd never expect.
I'd spoil things to entice you to continue, but I have an anti spoiling policy when it comes to One Piece.
...but if you are interested in robin's story.

Be warned that this a heavy spoiler moment.
Only view if you don't care for spoilers...
    Pick your poison.

I won't watch just because the show being very "new island new arc" means that I can watch it very sporadically and maybe one day get up to Robin's arc ha. But just given how well written the Arlong Park is I have full faith in Oda's writing ability, and the show is hella funny. It's just a bit tedious to get through sometimes. But I like the premise and the characters a lot.

Would you mind clarifying that? Is it like them in that they're awesome the first time through but almost physically painful to watch the second time around? That's my experience with both of those and other anime like them, and I know literally tens of people who feel the same way.

Actually Robin in of herself is a spoiler for certain reasons but meh, the show itself spoils it early on. =/
Yeah, Oda's great at writing, it is also a plus that he loves his creation so much...kind of creepy at points...

I know pretty much nothing about Robin other than the fact that there's a character named Robin who joins Luffy's crew, haha. I never got far.

What does that term even mean for a show that's been running for almost 18 years?

I meant awesome as if in, this is one of those hit/big animes that comes out and everyone raves about it. Don't know the exact word to call it. And don't worry, I feel the same way about the rewatching part with Code Geass and Death Note.

AoT, to me, is different. The plot of the story and the characters really get to me. Since the series is still in its first season and there's much more to be revealed for the story (plus characters that can benefit to the plot), I am not able to tell if the rewatching part would be painful or not. But at this point in the anime, I wouldn't mind rewatching it. Heck, I would love to rewatch it. I introduced my sister to the anime and she got sucked in (she's not that big into anime).

    Well...

Robin was introduced as an enemy and the way she joins the crew was kind of out of left field so no one would really know about it.
Problem is the show's third opening shows her as a part of the crew and this opening is introduced about 10 or so episodes before said scene...
    Is my nerdom showing? XD

I don't think there's anything wrong with checking something out because it's popular. People tend to label it as 'jumping on the bandwagon,' which has such a negative connotation. Sometimes I just want to see what the fuss is all about, or just try to figure out what people see in it. And from there I end up liking something or just passing it up.

I read Death Note when it got really popular and I really enjoyed it, still sometimes go back and read it. I checked out Doctor Who just because a friend told me it was crazy good. I started Downton Abbey for the same reason too. With this weirdo "I liked ____ before it was popular" trend we're also creating this discrimination against liking popular things or even just checking out popular things just because they're popular things. If you think they're shit that's your business but ierno where this post is going lol
ain't directed at you rat your post just made me think of it lol

    'Is all good Mist.

I wouldn't have known of AoT/Death Note either had they not been popular enough to break through into the mainstream pool. Facebook was just full of "OMG ATTACK ON TITAN SO GOOD", and I also saw some shreds of it on here. At first I thought they were talking about an animated movie that I hated. But then I saw it was an anime, bothered watching the first episode with low expectations, and then finding myself observing the days slowly pass by as I wait for a new episode every Saturday. Torture mode when an episode ends at a cliffhanger.

As for Doctor Who..... I'd check it out, but all the fangirls/boys sort of ruined it for me. Saw part of an episode about vampires, but since I was too new, it didn't quite grasp my attention enough to fully watch. Maybe someday.

I've only really seen Attack on Titan on tumblr, but then again I have like 15 facebook friends lol.

I understand when people have an aversion to something because of its fanbase (I'm the same way about Homestuck) but I think it passes eventually and it's worth checking the thing out if you're still interested.

( it's funny you mention Vampires of Venice because I just watched it today lol ) time for doktah who talk
It's not the best episode really. I don't know if I could choose any one episode to start someone off with, just because the episodes I love tend to be very grounded in the overarching plot (Silence in the Library / Forest of the Dead, Waters of Mars, etc.). It also depends a lot on what you like. I think Doctor Who is one of those shows that you just need to find an episode that hooks you and then everything is great from then on. It took me a while to find one and I only started appreciating everything before it after I'd seen that one episode.

Thinking about it, though, if I was going to try & sit someone down on an episode when they know only the basic premise of the show I'd probably go with The Satan Pit. It's a pretty eerie episode that still blends scifi, and it's early enough in the show that you haven't missed too much (I'd of course encourage them to go back & watch Nine). if that didn't get them I'd jump to A Christmas Carol which (imo) is a pretty quintessential Eleven / Moffat episode (even with the lack of Ponds).

That's another great thing about Doctor Who though, it can change up so much an infinite number of times (by getting new writers & doctors & companions) that I think there's something for everyone.

... i like doctor who a lot sorry for derailing this thread xoxo

if you want we can talk about one piece some moar

    Vampires of Venice, yeah.

Anyway, that's probably what I need. All the fangasms going about worshipping Doctor Who doesn't really help as it becomes a bit annoying (am actually trying to not act that way with AoT). I just need the right episode to get me started. I'll keep Satan Pit in mind. Sounds spooky.

who said one piece i'll talk about one piece i love one piece

A couple years ago I tired reading the manga and got to about chapter 200 and fell out of it for various reasons. I tried returning to it last summer and got to about 500 and fell out again. Skypiea was a pain to get through and was a huge reason it took so long. Earlier this summer I decided that I want to return to it again but I decided I should start from the beginning, so now I'm looking at 700+ chapters that I haven't started yet. It's kinda disheartening tbh, but I really like One Piece and used to be a huge fan in the 4kids days so I think it's worth it. I'm currently reading/watching a bunch of other things so when I finish those I'll start One Piece... again.

See it, it is a series that it is acutally better on the anime than the manga.. In the manga the drawing is ugly and all characters are alike what makes it difficult to care with a character before he/her death .. the anime will end in a huge clifhanger, what will inspire you to read the manga, and by that time you will know the plot so you will enjoy more the manga if you ever read it.

I would rather read 700 chapters of manga than watch 600 episodes of anime.

Also I kinda like the art. Kinda. It's a taste thing.

That's the problem with One Piece with most people, it's too long. XD
Skypia tends to get mixed reactions from people and tend to write it off. It seems like its a one shot arc, with a great psychotic villain, but some ideas from it comes back into play later. Like I said in an earlier post, things that pop up in past chapters tend to come back in later chapters. The one truly pointless arc is still the Davy Back arc...

That's another common complaint I hear from people is that they don't like the art style. It's what gives One Piece originality when compared to other series.
Also I'd have to disagree with you, I'd prefer the manga over the anime. Nowadays, the anime has horrible pacing. What they are trying to do is do one episode per manga chapter which really doesn't work. It pads out the episode and they have to fill it with implied filler which can work but at times it doesn't. If I had to recommend the anime I'd tell you to watch from ep 1 through 300 or so then switch to the manga because the anime is just..."meh" nowadays. Only saving grace is its bgm.

Yeah, they are epic, but that's just so something extra that's enjoyable. For many episodes, I like the opening better than the episode.

I don't mind long, it's just that things come up and you lose focus and before you know it it's been weeks since you've read a chapter.
After I finished Skypiea I liked it, the problem I think it has is that it has a very slow start and it doesn't get interesting until 3/4 of the way through. Another problem is that everything that comes before and after it is vastly more interesting. I read all of Water 7 in one day. I got through Davy Back relatively quickly because I was so eager to get to Water 7 and CP9. Hell, I would go back and read OP just for W7 and CP9, honestly.

Another great arc, toonami is about to reach that arc in a couple of weeks.
Even though I have the dvds, I'm still excited for it. XD
