Literally 4 months after it stopped airing in Japan, and with no English dub (so you know that Netflix REALLY wanted it).

Can this show possibly be any more hyped?

Okay this show is a strange and massive cultural phenomenon. It's one of the few things that's caught on so fast and with so many casuals that it has skipped the years on years of percolating most things have before a proper localization. Most of the people I've seen who have picked up this series were either never into anime or had fallen out of the habit. It's a fairly gore-action oriented show and plays down the political drama and pseudothriller elements down. It's also not as gritty and dark as the manga and instead uses a lot of bright colors and catchy music. Basically if you like gore, minor characters getting red shirted, or yaoi shipping you're in for a good time and if you don't you're probably not missing anything. I don't understand your taste in anything so I can't make a good recommendation but watching it for itself or watching it to see the cultural placement are both legitimate reasons for looking into it. I can't stand it because I like the manga, though.

Gotcha, yeah. That is basically the reason I was interested (to see why people make such a fuss about it), but given what y'all have said it doesn't seem like it's for me.

    I don't have Netflix.

And this is not good incentive to get it.

What? Between who and who? I didn't really recognize any yaoi undertones.

I meant the act of doing it yourself. I only mention it because there's a lot of that going on, both in H-doujins and the western side of the internet.

I see a decent amount of Attack on Titan stuff on campus actually
I saw someone with a SIE SIND DAS ESSEN UND WIR SIND DIE JÄGER sweatshirt once, and today I saw someone with an Attack on Titan backpack. Things of that nature. It's probably only behind Sonic shirts (I swear I see at least 1-2 a day) and Portal merch in terms of frequency.
