    Excuse me?

Also, here's a thought; stop posting in fucking four pixel high letters so I can actually read what you're saying.

I don't recall saying that second quote that you posted just then. And my text is bigger than the text you're using to type. And as for "Insinuating that at some point the Catholic Church supported Murder and adultery, contradictory to the ten commandments", I forgot to mention what I had also said previously, that even though most religions believe in an infallible higher being, these religious systems are governed by completely fallible human beings. And in any case, it wasn't the "Catholic Church" who supported this, this was before the New Testament before the Catholic Church even existed.

And buddy, you need to calm down. There's no point swearing and crap. This is the discussion area, obviously you're going to get all "hot and bothered" by the discussions going on.

...So you're telling me that before the New Testament, the entire Jewish population supported murder and adultery. Makes perfect sense, I mean they only have religious rules governing them down to what side of the bed they get out of.

Excuse me? You think I'm bothered by the discussions? I thought I made it pretty clear that it was your text that an ANT couldn't read was what's bothering me.

The Dark Ages came as a side effect of the fall of Rome.

He's telling you that conceptions change. The Old Testament was written in a very conservative and often violent time. The society of the Old Testament's authors bore little resemblance to modern society as we know it.

Once again, you don't read what I type. Neither the Jewish or Christian populations supported Adultery. Ever. It was the most punishable offence. And I wasn't trying to push anything onto the Jews, I was just supporting the Catholic Church. And neither the Jews nor Christians supported murder. The did what they believed their God wanted them to do, which was move towards The Promised Land, which, according to God, was rightfully theirs. Unfortunately, to do so, they had to kill plenty of people. I'm not saying I agree with it being right, but this is basically what happened. This is where, I believe, most of the contradictions against Christianity start. Right?

    No.

There is no contradiction there. God says, generally, that killing is bad. But if he says, okay, you can kill this one time, why is it a contradiction?

He's God. the Creator of everything. If he says to kill, I'm not going to argue with him.

Lol yeah true. Wait, were you being sarcastic? Sorry I can't really tell when it typed on computer lol.

Ok, so I what I said may have been a bit contradictory. But I was never trying to say that the Jews were bad people. But what I was trying to say was what Blademaster just said (see above)

And because the Catholic Church decided to take the opportunity to tighten its stranglehold on science, law, and religion, which it claimed to to have all the answers to.

How did they not know the charecteristics of this God?
Okay what the **** are you talking about? I never said that the big bang was an atheist theory, so I don't know what you are yapping about. The big bang is a theory, not an atheist theory. Also creationism is not a theory, since it has no facts.

    I agree with childofrurin.
God may not be a fallible human, but he is a fallible God.
He killed thousands of innocent people, and told his people to rape women, and kill non-believers. I am pretty sure that is fallible.

Are you sure about that? I have once met an atheist who was one of the biggest homophobic jackasses on the planet.

We are not talking about catholic beliefs we are talking about theist beliefs that includes every religion that believes in a God, you are not excluded.
Actually if you look in my link there is more than enough proof that shows that rape, and murder were acceptable back then by the God of Abraham.
And don't worry all the proof is from your holy book.

Rape and genoocide are good things?!

    That's an exaggeration; see here.

Anyway, so I can contribute something else to this: There are intolerant atheists out there, but I think the majority are smart enough to accept the beliefs of others, however illogical they may find them.

I meant to explain things such as how the Earth was created and all, sorry. Back then, I'm pretty sure no one knew how the Earth was created, or even what is looked like. They didn't have science to help them. The creation story was created for the religious people to propose an explanation, however inaccurate, that fit in with their beliefs. In addition, it also introduced many morals which the people of the time (and maybe even today) were expected to follow.
I wasn't talking to you on the big bang being an atheist theory on anything like that, someone else had mentioned it, I just quoted you lol sorry. And I know creationism has no facts (see above).

The God of the Old Testament (or the Torah) is vastly different from the God of the New Testament. The God of the Old Testament was vengeful, easily angered and quite violent. However, people in those times were quite violent too. Therefore, when they wrote the Bible, it seemed ok for them to put that sort of stuff in, because that is what their God told them to do. If you look at most of the stuff Christians learn about, its stuff from the New Testament, with Jesus and all the preaching of love and happiness, etc. The stuff from the Old Testament that is preached mostly includes the Ten Commandments, and the other, fewer stories where God is shown to be good. Most of the Old Testament stuff is, I believe, added in only to show the history of the Christian Church. I don't believe any priests would preach violence, rape or genocide in modern times, because conceptions change.

And I was only talking about the Catholic Church because the conversation had somehow slipped to that.

Either way, this conversation is kinda off topic as we're supposed to be talking about if atheists are intolerant. BACK ON TOPIC: Personally, I don't think all of them are, only a certain group of them.

Are you trying to say that you don't believe the Old Testament is true, yet you still call yourself a Christian?
You are basically denying your history. Furthermore the New Testament is full of bad **** too, did you even read my link?

Last of all why do you worship a God who let his people rape innocent woman and why did God order the rape victims to be slaughtered?
Why do you worship a God who told his people to slaughter countless of innocent men, women, animal, and children? Why do you worship a God who encourages slavery?

Ummm have you ever heard of the KKK, the American Nazi party, or Westboro Baptist church? Are you saying that you don't believe that preachers that promote hate don't exist?

    :=D: Really?!!!

    LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL /******ed

I think we all know that we do not need religion to be "moral". There are enough theories that show that evolution can produce moral and supposedly "altruistic" behaviour. What may seem good is actually an individual following a "you scratch my back I'll scratch yours" model. There is also the problem of us moving into large population areas when we have evolved in low population groups where such a model would work to our advantage. Now it is misfiring and causing us to be good in general as long as someone is similar to us (hence why racism is so prevalent).

Those who say about meeting atheists who are homophobic and close-minded, people are people. Just because someone does not believe in a higher power does not mean that they are going to be completely open-minded. Atheism gives the option to be open-minded in that atheists are not restricted by dogma. However, if a person is inherently close-minded being atheist is not going to help.

That post that you are quoting doesn't make much sense ._. Although, I hope my post before deals with what has been raised in that post.
