    Linky

They wanted to raise £5,500 in donations to pay for it and they received over £22,000 xD Shows they had plenty of support =]

I can't believe there has been a backlash over this. I mean, if Christians are allowed to plaster their propaganda everywhere, why can't atheists put one message on a few buses?

    The message being:

"There's probably no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life."

Because atheists are the most evil creatures on God's green Earth. Duh.

Though it seems strange this would happen even in London, 45% of England is atheist, you'd think there'd be a higher toleration there.

It tends to be that the more extreme the viewpoint the more vocal the members. The main outcry (possibly only outcry lol) came from a group called Christian Voice. I had a look at their site and it made me laugh, cry and rant all at the same time ;D

Well despite any backlash, it's good that Atheists are at least getting somewhat of a foothold, even if it's in bus advertisement.

Unfortunately, Boris Johnson (lol he is funny ;D) the Lord Mayor of London is planning on getting rid of bendy buses as they "pose a risk to public safety" xD

It may be short lived, but it is definitely a start =]

I actually like that... I want to be allowed to do something, enjoy my life, without being told, "Well, your not going to burn but your definitely going to Hell."

My dad is tired of me being told that also.

They shouldn't be making a big deal about this. I mean I see Christian adds every day when I take the bus

"Be prepared!" with a picture of a friggin' baby on it,
    or
"Would God be Pro-life or for Abortion?"

Or how about being told that your going to Hell because I like Alchemy and I sometimes want to practice it. Now I have to hide my Alchemy book in my desk because I know my school will yell at me for having free will like that.

I don't see a problem with it. Neither should any one else. Just because Christianity or Judaism or some other religion that is more popular and seems to be the "righteous" choice because they have a "God" involved in it all, doesn't mean that people who believe in multiple Gods or no God at all have no say in the world.

Unfortunately not everyone feels that way. Despite Atheists being, no offense to anyone here, the smartest group of people on the planet, they are deemed unfit to lead anyone because they are deemed Immoral and stupid. This same reason stops Atheists from coming out in public as Atheists, lest they be met with violence or ignorance.

And yes, there have been studies showing that if you are highly intelligent, you are more likely to develop atheist beliefs.

Uhm, just because there are Catholics, DOESN'T mean there can't be Muslims, Buddhists, etc. I mean, if we really have an issue in cramping someone's beliefs, the we have a problem... I don't mean this rudely, but I'm a Catholic, and I really don't think that we have the right to stomp all over everyone else's religion and take ours as superior. Same goes toward an Atheist, I'm not going to criticize anybody, they have the RIGHT to believe, or not believe would be more correct, in something. Catholics don't have EVERY SINGLE right to do as they choose and shun other religions or something like that, but not saying we don't have rights, there's a fine linebetween what to do, and what not to do...

I have had less problems really with Catholics than I have with other groups such as Evangelical Protestants and their side groups. They will speak out avidly and protest at the worst of times such as funerals or soldiers returning home etc.

I think the sign is a good thing. If Christians can put out their signs everywhere and post what they want to around, why can't Atheists, Muslims, Buddhists, etc? As long as the message isn't hateful, I see no issues with people being able to say what they want to. I don't get on Christians though I may have some issues such as when they post signs saying 'God in Government' which I stand strongly against, but at the same time, I don't ask it to be removed. It is opinion. There is a strong sense of 'martyrdom' in some religions that simply just doesn't belong there when they are very dominant in the world. Atheists don't hate Christians. We just don't believe in the same religious views. In the end, religious views do not make the person who they are. We have many similarities outside of religious views that can make people friends and I can say I have many friends of countless beliefs but we come together because morally we feel similar.

I.e. we don't approve of stealing, killing, brutalizing, rape, political views, etc. In the end, the sign to me seems to be fine and not saying anything anymore harmful than when people put up signs saying things about any deity or the son of God. It's a viewpoint that isn't slanderous. I hope England will fight to maintain the signs as they were paid for and any group can do the same.

Well...as long as people don't go all wild...going around doing wild crazy stuff....just because of the sign.....i mean one thing is a healty livestyle and other is being religious.

But i think that this goes under the assumption of " you are being watched" ..."you'll burn in hell" thing......which i think it's a bad thing.

but the sign i see nothing bad with.

We atheists are so evil. Oh man, that God is evil. God is Kira!

But, really, that is a very good point. If religion can spread so much information on everything (flyers, etc), then atheism should have that freedom as well.

Is it just where I am.. because I never see any of these 'Your going to hell and burn' Advertisements. Nor do I see anything of the sort for any other religion in my area.

Worst thing I see is a by the looks of it a 20 year old message painted on the sign of a building saying 'Jesus loves us' which I don't see as bad because it dosent say anything like 'Jesus loves Christians'.
We don't get.. much of those door to door people talking about there religion. Even then I tell them were not interested and they kindly leave.

So If I see an athiest sign on a buss anytime soon I probebly will be slightly annoyed by it because I don't see anything of the sort for any religion.

I'm atheist. Anyway, I think that with all the geniuses in London that most don't believe in such a thing like God. Most atheists are very smart or very crazy. Either way, London has alot of atheists, most of them either smart or crazy.

I don't actually see that much religious propaganda for any religion where I live. I don't know if I maybe just live in a part of England that really doesn't give a **** or what, but whilst athiest messages aren't flaoting about, neither do those from any of the main religions.

Personally I find the fact that people reacted to something like that to be quite pathetic :/

I am Agnostic, but I respect the viewpoints and the faith of those who are of a definite religious, it annoys me when extremists preach their faith and opinions as fact that we should all bend to.

I don't see much of that up here either. Only the guys that stand up in the high street sayin' "Join, or you'll burn in hell!", but no one takes 'em seriously.

I'm quite a religious person (even though i don't also show it to you guys) - i was raised in a religious oriented family, but i think it's rather silly that folk will complain 'bout Atheists placin' their propaganda on buses. It's not as if they are forcin' the public to take their idea seriously. They're simply voicin' their opinions. If folk don't like it then they should just ignore it. There is no need to cause a big kerfuffle 'bout it.

Some folk need to be more open to others views n' beliefs. Extremists are the reason for so much tension between groups, n' they ain't exactly givin' a good impression of their faith or belief.

atheists shouldn't put their crap on buses just cuz christians do. christians shouldn't be putting their evangelist BS up like they do anyway. For atheists to add to it isn't right.

It's their money so they should rightfully spend it towards what they like. For most Americans every 4 years we see millions of dollars of advertisments supporting a canidate or to tell you to vote. Everywhere we go we see that, even on Xbox live... But Either way just respect others choices or veiws.

Yes, I am athiest. But I am not one of those kind of athiests that make mockery of others religions. If someone goes up to me and says they are Jewish, Catholic, christian, ect. I will respect thier views even if they look down upon me.

Also, If I were to support something greatly, and I have the money for it, then if I chose to I should be able to put a banner on a bus saying whatever I like.

That is an excellent point. While it may be the politically correct response, I don't think anyone is obligated to work under those conditions though.

If nothing happens, Christian slogans become abundant (which they are). Atheists are simply spreading their message to, so people know that there isn't just the one type of religious commercial advertisement deal.
