Are video games art as a whole (not just the movie or cutscenes)? I won't be biased in the OP, just in case any one wants to kill me. Art, by one definition, is "is the product or process of the effective application of a body of knowledge, most often using a set of skills". But there are many more definitions.

According to the Supreme Court of the United States, it is, but you can debate if they made the right choice or not as well.

I believe art is something someone can critique. All video games can certainly be critiqued. Thus, I call them art.

In my opinion, Art can be anything born out of creativity. That's why almost anything can technically be called art. (e.g. The Art of Speaking, The Art of Walking Backwards etc.) So by that definition video games are art.

Well, I believe Art is the creative expression of ones emotions and/or context through a composition of techniques. By that definition, it is and it isn't, How many video game developers are really attached to their work, and how many see it as your typical 9-5 job? Then again, look at games like CoD. How have they not been influenced by some war context? The thing is that the interpretation of what art is is extremely subjective. I believe that they are to an extent. They're not the traditional art form that can be analysed for the purpose of learning about the developers' motives, but they are still a creative expression of the developers' ideas. So it is and it isn't...it really depends on the definition of art.

I think he' s got a point. If you' re just looking for something that tingles you the right way, emotionally or aesthetically, then although it does qualifies as art, in a way, it also qualifies as porn.
