    Okay.. So I've been having an argument with my sister for some time now. She believes that the Japanese are trying to brainwash us Americans through anime shows... I presonally don't think that this is true. However, it could be possible, since we were once fighting against Japan, and anime shows were introduced to the U.S during that time. She also thinks this because it has a bit of inappropriate stuff in it, but that's mostly 'cuz she just sorta hates cartoons.

    Still, her theory does make me wonder... What do you guys think about this?

    I highly doubt that.
    >.< Thats a pretty strange thought....I dont think the Japanese hate us that much, actually, I dont know much but I dont think we hate each other at all, well kind of, I guess.
    But, im not quite getting how they could brainwash us with anime, because they are showing the shows there too so....I dont know. I think your sister is crazy >.<

    The first animes were in like the 50's correct? That was towards the end of U.S.'s reforming of Japan (where MacArthur was in charge and we made their constitution and what not). During that time (and even today) we were allied with Japan because we are their military. So that explanation wouldn't work, since the animes weren't out in American until after we had left Japan.

    And the first anime here in the states was Astro Boy. I actually saw a few episodes and it didn't have anything that is "brainwashing." And I know what brainwashing is. I've been studying it.

    Yes, but it could still be true... It was right after, so she got the thought that maybe they're still mad at us... and they do have all types of technology... although I don't know much about wars... I don't even know much about our relationship with them ><

    hmm... well she thought there could be a secret in the shows or something... >>

    Well that'd be a hard thing to do. Any anime aired in America is translated, cut, censored, and re-voiced before getting on TV. We lose alot of the impact that anime's have thanks to cruddy american VA's and networks making us hear things like "Believe it" 100 times an episode. The only way that they could brainwash us is from the raw, unfiltered episodes. But then that would also brainwash the japanese children and teens viewing it too.

    of course not, i dont' see what they woudl be brainwashing us to do even if they were. you know their animes aren't designed JUST for us, you DO know it's for their use first and THEN someone decides if the US gets it translated or not.

    Why? The U.S. is a militaristic and economic ally to the Japanese; we protect them from any war declared on them, and we are one of their greatest consumers. They freaking love us.

    The first animes were brought to America by...Americans. It's not like the japanese just sent us over a video of Astro Boy and Speed Racer and said "Here...broadcast this until they get a cult following.".

    I think an accusation like that is plain ******ed.There are hundreds of anime out there;I doubt the japanese use it all to brainwash us.

    And look at shows like Pokemon and YuGiOh. I don't think there's brainwashing elements in those. All those shows are really saying is 'Play this card/video game.' So if they're brainwashing us into do anything, it's to buy the merchandise associated with it...which America does too.

    I think your friend is a crackhead needs to learn her history and should bush up on her knowledge of our relationship with Japan,

    It's not really possible for them to brainwash us seeing as most animes we view are watered down versions of the origionals.

    Animes wouldn't be brain washing us . heck , american made cartoons/ or shows could be the ones brain washing kids (probably true). O.O .... If that were true they'd also be brainwashing the kids in japan also . Not just us but also in any other country that the anime maybe aired at . The whole world would be brain washed . !
    So japanese brain washy americans with anime: No .
    we may become infatuated and obsessed with an anime but not brainwashed .

    Anime isn't meant to brainwash us. "Cute" is a high established thing in Japanese culture. They have anime icons splattered across billboards and as business icons etc. It's just part of the Japanese culture and I hardly see that it is meant to influence anyone else. It's entertainment. Now, if the Japanese were not so much themselves into anime and all, I would say this were a possibility depending on the anime, because they'd be doing this for other countries. However, since it is a main staple in their own society and Americans, Europeans and others became interested in it and did bring anime to other places before Japan itself did, I really see no harm in it at all and there are no hidden messages really that the Japanese as a whole are sending us by us watching their shows. The same could also be said about the fact we can also get Spanish television movies and other foreign films, cartoons etc, but the fact is that other countries like diversity and we all go out of our way at times to get it. Anime is a product of Japan but enjoyed by many who live elsewhere too. It's a good thing in my book, though some of the hentai nasty stuff I could do without heh. I won't go into description since that would mean a ban. w00t.

    <Cough> Death Note fans <Cough>!!!!

    im serious about that,you should see how people get on my case for not liking it.anyway I find it highly unlikely,but they may be trying to rot our brains and make us stupid through anime :P.you know,corrupt america's youth. but I cant see how a show can do that (except DN..)

    Pokemon and Yu-Gi-Oh..those shows were highly addictive,but I think its just saying. "Buy these cards and you can play just like Yugi''

    lol, I so hear what you are saying. Sometimes there are anime I just do not like and the 'fans' will bother and say 'how can you hate that?' It does get annoying. It is like you said though. This is a corporate money thing in the end. There's no conspiracy attached unless you consider that some anime you will buy or go get cards or games for. It's the usual gimmick such as with cartoons in the 80s like GI Joe, He-Man and the like.

    Japan probably could brain wash us. I mean, they've slowly been getting more and more of the population into anime. They want our children. O_O!

    But seriously. It's unlikely. It's merely a piece of entertainment and anyone who takes something like cartoons too seriously needs a little therapy. o.o;

    Lol. . . If the Japanese made anime for brainwashing then they're brainwashing themselves and I think that defeats the purpose of brainwashing others. . . XD;

    |: So no.

    O: BUT OMG CIN, HAY, CIN. THE JAPANESE COULD'VE BEEN ALL DEATH NOTE N STUFF AND THEY PROBABLY KNEW THAT WE'D TAKE SOME SORT OF INTEREST, THUS BRINGING IT OVER OURSELVES. WHAT SAY YOU ABOUT THEIR DIABOLICAL PLANZ.
