Uh, I'm pretty sure you can find entire seasons of cartoons online if you look hard enough. :/

Yeah, you can find plenty of good, "mature" cartoons if you look hard enough.

The DCAU's in particular, are fantastic.

Also, if there was anything good about Geass, it died after season 1. R2 was fucking terrible. The only reedeming part to it was the ending.

Fine, just don't say those Hail Maries at my funeral. They're so monotonous.

Never really saw Batman, so no comment there. JLU was interesting, but I only watched fleeting episodes of it and never got dedicated. Did it hold up an overall story arc, or was it just those two-parter episodes? As for DCAU, I've got no clue what that stands for.

To tell the truth, I never got into the western comic heroes, so these shows fell relatively outside my radar.

I can find cartoons online, yes. But they tend to be rather long winded, and I can only download so much per month. It's a reason I don't follow Naruto.

    What are the DCAUs?

R2 took everything from R1 and turned it up to eleven. Ridiculous plot devices to screw the protagonist over? Check. Lucky breaks to save him? Check. Anst? Check. Plot twists? Yes. A cliffhanger at the end of each episode? Check. It really depends how much you liked R1. Personally I detest everything onward from L's death in Deathnote.

I'll be honest with you guys, I was never big on anime but when I first played Naruto I began to get addicted to it. Anime its just....so cool. The storyline are so intense and breath taking, it was very thing that made me love it. Anime is my life now. I live and breath anime.

    Your taste.

What IS the deal with anime? Is it gay or does it suck?

    What IS the deal?

EDIT: But seriously, idk what's so great about it. I've grown out of it these past several months. It was once entertaining but ever since I got more of a life I haven't really felt like watching it.

Code Geass, Death Note, TMoHS, Serial Experiments Lain, Neon Genesis Evangelion and obviously pokemon. Yes, everything I've mentioned here is anime, but this is a topic about anime, so what do you expect? I imagine you also go into movie stores to look for books.

    Status: Was once entertaining.
Cause of detest: Obtainment of life.
Conclusion: Not so much a problem with anime as it is with the poster's lack of spare time.

Ah! That stuff. Yeah, I suppose that meets the mature requirements. I forgot about that kind of stuff. I still prefer anime to it because:

    1. I never got into the comic scene, while I was playing/watching pokemon before I could read. Got to stick with nostalgia, right?

    2. Is rather monster of the week based. I prefer the story arc to advance each episode like it does in Evangelion/Deathnote/Lain/Gurren Lagann/Code Geass. I can see how people prefer the DCAU's style of a new situation each episode, with a new, independent problem each ep, sort of like how I loved pokemon simply for the cool battles way back.

    errrr no.
To be honest, I can't properly discuss the Batman or Superman shows because I haven't been able to track down the DVD's, but they without a doubt have story arcs. This isn't a new convention for media.

I specifically mentioned the first season of Justice League Unlimited because of it's fantastic Cadmus arc. Seeing as you're not a fan of superheroes, even this story might appeal to you.
The second season, while only 13 episodes long has the Legion of Doom arc which climaxes in the second last episode. And the finale episode, well that finishes an arc that was started all the way back in the Superman animated series.

Point is, you're just not looking properly. I wouldn't say hard enough because these are well known series.
The old X-Men and Spider-Man animated series had storylines branching over episodes, and the new Wolverine and the X-Men cartoon has an arc that covers the entire season.

I will concede that I'm only offering examples of superhero cartoons, but that is my interest and I've only watched them because I buy the DVD's. I don't have the means to watch for any other cartoons. The only other suggestion I can think of is Samurai Jack, I've not been able to watch it but I hear a ton of great things about it.

The fact is, you acted like the 'story arc' was only a device used in anime. Off the top of my head I provided you with a bunch of series' to counter you.
But what's worse is you claimed that no normal television program offered it, and you ended up proving yourself wrong.
Programs like Boston Legal and Eli Stone may not offer a "GREATER" storyline, but each episode offers a new side to the character and develops that characters 'arc'.
****, Supernatural's story has been going ever since the first episode with the intention to reach it's climax at the end of it's fifth season.

But I'm assuming you live in a Western country.
You said that no Western animated series has lived up to any anime. Which is simply not true. Don't complain because it doesn't appeal to you.

Then go out and buy a DVD box set.

Not when this "nostalgia" leaves you with a very bland tatse.

Pika mentioned numerous shows of different genres. How is that monotonous? And even if it was, who cares? Just because your taste isn't all that broad doesn't mean that it's bad.

Not only that, but there are a bunch of anime series with a villain-of-the-week structure as well, or at least partly.
Witch Hunter Robin would be one example. Pokémon also tends to introduce a new Pokémon every week or so. Even RahXephon and Evangelion are sinners to this, more or less.

So why is his taste monotonous? Take your time. You'll figure it out eventually. It's okay. Some people are just a teeny bit slower I guess. :)

Please do. :) And use short sentences. I'm not too bright. Just bright enough to know that it can't be "He only watches anime".

Hmm... well, let's see what these people have to say... [Click the quotes for a free video! *shot*]

There. Those four scenes just outshone everything from Animaniacs to Zeta Project.

And that's just the tip [well, middle really, considering I didn't show Bleach, Naruto or One Piece. XD] of the anime iceberg. Haven't even touched anything from the 'super-l33t' series like Evangelion, Higurashi, Death Note, Elfen Lied and whatever else have you.

Frankly, there is nothing 'great' about anime. It's simply a form of entertainment. It takes some, it doesn't take others. Comparing Anime and American cartoons is like asking why Football is better than Soccer, or why Nascar is better than F1.

There is no real answer, and each answer is subjective to the person who found it - there is no guarantee that the same logic will apply to or influence another person, even if they have similar tastes.

    But I digress.

Personally, I gave up on American cartoons when I found out that the Spiderman cartoon I really liked when I was a kid was animated by the people who did D.Gray-Man.

    Try replacing monotonous with "generic".

:/ I don't think it's too hard to see what he was getting at.

Monotonous =/= generic. In fact they are very different. If that is what he meant then I'll admit I found his choice of words confusing.
However I'll also admit that "generic" would be less disagreeable in this case.

If you really liked it, who cares who it was animated by? I feel that, as long as something is good, I don't care where it comes from. Quality is the only thing I worry about in life (usually). Now, admittedly, I don't watch TV much, and what I do watch is limited to what's on basic cable or what the rest of the family likes (when I'm at home), so I haven't watched many animes, but my philosophy should apply there as well.

Its a popular form of entertainment. Nothing is great about it, its pretty much like watching American (or your native) television shows. You do it because you're bored. Its just that it happens to be Japanese and animated.
