So I just finished watching the first episode of Puella Magi Madoka Magica and there were a few things I noticed. Firstly, Madoka is introduced in a dream which is about all the destruction and bla bla bla. Notice that Kyubey is there with her and he's all like CONTRACT!. Well, that particular opening scene made me think of Cardcaptor Sakura, where Sakura is also introduced in a dream with Kero in the first episode. It's also revealed later in the episode that a girl that was in Madoka's dream happened to arrive at her school, in her class and began staring at Madoka every chance she gets. Then in episode 8 of Cardcaptor Sakura, Sakura has a dream about a young boy, who again, just happens to come to her school and her class the following day. He too seems to like to glare at Sakura whenever he can. Am I sad for noticing something like this?
Well, Madoka Magica is a deconstruction of magical girl shows (and draws a considerable number of parallels to Cardcaptor Sakura specifically), so its likely to play a lot of the same tropes for the purpose of showing why they don't really work.
You'll notice a lot of similarities for anime. You can only do so many things until you run out of ideas so you have to reuse them a bit. But Cardcaptors is a pretty early show, so you'll be bound to find a lot that are like it
^This. Plus Shaft has been known for making shout-outs to various other shows if they can. It's part of their signature style. Along with various other things. One of them being head-tilting for some reason... It also could've been done to throw people off and make them think it was like any other magical girl show until Ep. 3 >>;
ah, you gotta love the head-tilting. It's a classic in anime, and it's a good way to get emotion from the person
