kaila turned, smiled politely, and curtsied to the seraphims.
"your holiness. i can assure you that i have not paired with anyone but the one chosen for me, and even that hasn't happened yet. in this lifetime, i have yet to find my other half."
she turned to continue writing some more details about the class on the board.
"is there anything else you need of me or may i go back to prepping my class for the first day of school?"
she turned to face the seraphim awaiting their answers.

schuyler looked up at diane who sat down next to her.
"owh..hey. i'm fwine. no need to woowwy."
she sniffled and wiped her nose.

tori looked at kiel curiously.
"humming huh?"
she put her fork full of fruit down when the mathematics teacher began speaking.

 

The Seraphim each in turn bowed and moved a pace apart. The one in red and gold flipped off her hood and flipped her fingers through her blonde hair, "Excusi moi..." she moved around the classroom delicately and touched a finger to each window. "Clear. I should hope Yves is satisfied now that we've scoured the entire place?" her bright blue eyes narrowed at the Seraph in white. "Ayes...I am satisfied. I would not want our future generations being corrupted by the Dark." his voice was melodic like the others and softly spoken. Uriel hurried them out of the room, all but one in light blue.

The Seraph of the Winter Court, wearing a light blue cloak remained in Kaila's classroom. "Kallai doesn't know how to speak to Angels of lower class like you. But we don't have many incursions with your level of kind. The Winter Court asks of you to pick a student worthy of our mark. Once you've made your decision, speak to Gabriel." His voice was chilly and toneless.

Kiel watched Sanya sit back down and muffled his laughter, "That kid is a teacher here? I sure hope she's good at something."

 

"Are you sure? I'm miles away from my house and I can't call my parents to come get him. He'd have to stay with me for a while." Diane said.

Hurricane got up and ran out the door barking. His Misstress Diane had left but he had to go to the bathroom. "BARK! BARK!" he had to find her. He had gotten in trouble many times at home when he accidentally soiled himself indoors. "ARF! ARF!"

 

kaila mumbled under her breath.
"lower class my ass."
she sighed and looked up at the seraphim of the winter court.
"your holiness, i will observe my students over the next few days to see which of them would be worthy of such an honor and when i have made my decision i will inform master gabriel. will there be anything else i may do for you?"
kaila glanced over a few other pieces of paper to double check her work.

schuyler nodded reluctantly.
"yeah. i'll just make sure to take my allergy meds everyday."

tori smiled at kiel.
"well at least this should be interesting."

 

The Seraph of the Winter Court smiled and chuckled lightly, "Forgive me if I've insulted you, Angel Kaila. But in the hierarchy of the angels you are one of the middle to lower classes. Seraphim and Archangel are at the top...with a few others of our sisters. Also...should you find the creature responsible for attacking brother Ren...send that thing back to the darkness where it belongs." his white smile was ice cold as he turned and left.

Kiel gobbled down his food with an odd...elequence. "Well...classes start soon..."

 

kaila nodded and watched as the seraphim left.
"oh! lady uriel, if you don't mind staying behind for a moment please darling."
she stood there waiting patiently with her arms crossed.

tori watched kiel finish his food in a hurry.
"yeah i guess so."
she wiped her face with a napkin and stood up.
"shall we?"

 

"Um. Okay." Diane said. She heard a bark coming toweards her. "Oh god dammit!" she swore loudly.
Hurricane heard his mistress swear loudly. He ran yipping happily towards her and making wuite a scene. There weren't any other dogs but he was sure that wasn't a problem. "ARF! ARF!" he said. I'm here Mistress Diane!

 

schuyler got up quickly.
"i'm sorry. i gotta go. see you in class."
she hurried off to the first class of the day. she needed a break from the dog before her allergies got any worse. it was already going to be bad enough in the bedroom.

 

Uriel hesitated and slipped back inside the classroom. "Yes, Kaila? Is something wrong?"

Kiel stood quickly, he wasn't used to girls standing before him. "Ah, yes, lets go. I believe Language Arts is our first class." He frowned to himself, "Gabriel teaches that class..." He smiled quickly, "I hope it's alright if I skip out this time, Tori. I just remembered some stuff I have to do first."

Sanya squealed when she saw the little dog and Ren scowled fiercly. "Is that...a dog?"

 

kaila looked at crossly and tapped her foot.
"come her."
she wiggled her finger towards herself.
"what, in heaven's sake is going on around here? all of you are keeping something from me and i wont tolerate it. how long have we been friends uriel and working together none the less? if i don't know what's going on within this castle, i'm going to have to leave. i can't stand all this secrecy. you know that. if you don't start talking i'll have my things packed by the end of the night."
kaila glowered at uriel.

tori looked at kiel curiously.
"umm...yeah sure i guess. i'll see you in class."

schuyler hurried down the hallways. she wasn't quite sure where the language arts class was, but with her initiative it didn't take her long to find the classroom. as usual she was the first one to arrive.

 

Uriel crossed her arms and rested her rather blank expression on Kaila. "Alright...I'll tell you, but knowing this won't make you want to stay..." She spread her hands over a desk and a holographic map of the school formed up from the desk's surface. "Our school is surrounded by the protective branches of the Dark Forest. At night...and sometimes during the day, creatures of Hell or the Dark come and try to break into the school...it is our duty to protect the school. These creatures vary in size, shape and talents. The one last night fighting Ren that injured him is called a Dreeth. There are many more we've identified...if you wish to know about them, go to Sanya after school...she's been researching them."

Gabriel looked up from his desk at Schuyler as she entered the classroom. "Why, hello. You must be...Schuyler, yes? I look forward to this year..." he smiled brightly and waved a hand around. Several posters that were falling were immediately stabbed with little pins into the wall to keep them up.

 

kaila rubbed her temples. it was a lot to process, but she tried to focus. she took in a deep breath and sighed.
"you may go uriel."
kaila turned around and started writing on the chalkboard again.

schuyler watched in amazement as all the posters magically pinned themselves to the wall.
"this is incredible."

 

Uriel sighed and stood, "I kept you in the dark because I thought I was protecting you...it worked didn't it? You are safe and haven't been injured like Ren. I need only protect those who dwell in this school..." Uriel left without another word and resumed her tour with the Seraphim.

Gabriel chuckled lightly and waited for the rest of his class. He examined each of the random students that walked through the door...none were Zadkiel. "Hmm...how sad. I don't think he's attending class today. Well...it only makes sense."

 

kaila sat down in her chair. it was going to be a ruff year and she wasn't prepared for all of the academy's mysterious to unfold.

tori walked into the classroom and sat down in an open chair. she didn't have any supplies with her for school. everything was lost when she got attacked.

 

Gabriel handed out books titled, 'The World's Language' and smiled down at Tori, "You must be Tori. A pleasure. I'm Gabriel Leirbag." he winked at her and lifted one finger, "That's Gabriel spelt backwards."

 

Diane saw everyone looking at her. "Oh crap..." she said sadly. She had just made a new friend and Hurricane had ruined everything. She picked up Hurricane and answered Ren. "Yes, he's mine." she said, about to cry.

James went down the halls to the language arts class. He sat down in an empty chair and hoped there wasn't a seating chart.

 

Ren blinked and pulled his wings tightly around him, "Dogs...they're not an angel's preferred animal. I prefer the elequence of cats."

 

Diane was about to freak out. "Does this mean I can't keep him?" she asked.

 

Ren grumbled to himself and Elena smiled, "Of course you may, sweetie. Ren may not like dogs but he doesn't make the rules up."

 

tori looked up at gabriel not really sure what to say.
"hello. i'd introduce myself, but you've already seemed to do that."
she took one of the books he was handing out and sat there skimming through the first couple pages.

schuyler watched the boy walk into the classroom and sit down in the empty chair next to her.
"hi, my names schuyler. you are?"
she sneezed after introducing herself.

kaila looked at all the second years that had walked into her classroom. their schedule was different then all the new students and she was pleased to see the familiar faces. the first day of school wasn't starting off well for her, but she couldn't wait to start teaching. magic was something she was great at and loved to share it with others.
