tristan raised an eyebrow skeptically. he held his hands out cautiously, not sure as to what this guy was going to do. he seemed odd and he called his power impolite. tristan didn't have any powers. at least that he thought. "what are you gonna do?"

tori sat down on the cot next to penny while koryu inspected tristan. the old angel was a little weird, but she liked him. he helped a lot and she owed him for that.

schuyler relaxed her shoulders a bit, but still kept her eyes pointed hard on genesis. "how am i supposed to believe you?"

giselle slowly opened the door and peaked out at them. "is everything okay?" she walked out into the hall and stood between them. it was obviously still tense and it made her uncomfortable. "yeah. genesis was just saying he had somewhere special to take you for your birthday." she watched schuyler walk back into the bedroom angrily. "what does she mean?

 

Koyru gently took hold of Tristan's hands and a bright light flared between them. It wavered like rising heat off pavement and still held sparkles of irridescent blue. Two tendrils of his power snaked around Koyru's hands and flared brightly with flames and a golden light. Jerking his hands free, Koyru rubbed his wrists, "Ouch....that would be your power. Apparently you do not trust me...sadly not even a little bit. Like I said...I'm Koyru, a friend of Yves and hopefully of Tori's, which means I am your ally."

Genesis held out his hand for Giselle, "Nevermind her. She's jealous that she can't come. But it's not her birthday, right? Come on Giselle, you want to get back in time for the rest of your party here don't you?"

 

tristan's hands recoiled and he stared at the guy confused. "i don't know what you're talking about. how could i not trust you, you just kept my friend from having to die." he cocked an eyebrow at the man. he thought he trusted koyru, but for some reason the angel was saying he didn't. it made no sense.

giselle took his hand nervously. "y-yeah. where are we going?" she held onto his hand tightly and started walking alongside him. wherever it was, it caused a lot of drama between him and schuyler. giselle didn't really want to go somewhere that was going to cause problems, but apparently he really wanted to take her there.

schuyler sat down on tori's bed angrily. she wasn't going to let genesis have his way, but then giselle walked out and interrupted. if he did anything to her, to wasn't going to end well for him. "i don't trust him." she glanced over at jean and sighed. "you wanna go find everyone else?"

gabriel was apparently not in his classroom, so kaila's next guess was to go check his bedroom. she made her way down the hall to his room and knocked lightly on the door. "gabriel, are you there?"

 

Koyru laughed, the sound of tinkling bells filled the room and turned to Tori, sweeping a dramaticly low bow to her, "If I may...I'd appreciate it if you would indulge yourselves in a less...dangerous manner. I'm going to have Rozenwyn's temper to deal with for the next few centuries. He, unlike the other Reapers, doesn't like his book messed with." He started to fade out, leaving his tinkling laughter behind.

Jean nodded, "I hope Tristan hasn't gotten himself into anything dangerous. If Genesis was here...then do you think..." she opened the door and came face to face with Kiel. Letting out a startled shriek, Jean fell backwards onto her butt. "Y-you scared me." Panting, Kiel looked around, "Where's Tori? Have you two seen Penny or Tristan?"

"I had not thought that you would come knocking at my door..." The door opened and Gabriel stood wearing his usual white button down shirt and jeans. Gabranth stood behind him. "Something the matter?"

 

tori nodded and smiled at the fading image of the man. "we'll try, but I can't make any pronises. Thank you again, it's been a pleasure." she stood up again and walked over to the sink to scrub her hands.

tristan was glaring at the disappearing angel and his tinkling laughter. He wondered what that guy's deal was, but shrugged it off and turned to penny. "now that you're not going to die, are you feeling better?"

schuyler stood abruptly at the sight of kiel. He was out of breath and a little sweaty. Why was he out of breath? "there were gun shots. She went to investigate. Of course we haven't seen them. They were supposed to be with you. Why areb't they with you?" she grabbed kiel's arm and started shaking him. Her anger towards gebesis had just been replaced with fear for penny's life.

kaila looked at gabriel grimly. "i'm afraid something has happened. I need you to come with me right away." she glanced at gabranth, who appeared to be taller than her now, and frowned. "gabe, it's always a pleasure, but you should probably remain in your father's room until everything is sorted out."

 

The nurse shook her head at him, "He's unconscious at the moment. Please...let him rest."

Kiel let her shake him until he caught his breath. "Tristan is the only one of my responsibility, but...the both of them slipped away while my back was turned. I believe they wanted to see you girls. I'm sure....they are safe. No one runs around the school without running into one of the teachers."

Gabriel frowned and lifted his hand before Gabranth could speak. "Alright. Fill me in on the way. Gabe, sit tight. I don't need another fight between you and the students here again. Just...think about what I told you." He gave his son a hard look and shut the door behind him, waiting for Kaila to lead the way.

 

tristan sat back on the end of the cot, arms crossed. this all went horribly wrong. pretty much everything about this school was horribly wrong. jean was the only thing that wasn't. he watched tori walk back over and sit down next to him. her hands were still red, but all the dried blood was gone. "you guys are lucky professor camponella came along when she did. what were you doing?" she was right. they would have been goners otherwise. "well wingy and your boyfriend-" she scoffed and he stared at her blankly. why would she do that? "kiel has to actually ask me out in order to call me his girlfriend. i hope he isn't telling people that, because he hasn't. it shouldn't just be implied, but continue." "o-kay...well they were fighting which seems to be a common theme between them and penny wanted to see schuyler... so we left. thought we'd see how long it took before they realized we were gone."

schuyler sat back down on the bed nervously. her voice had raised an octave and she looked between kiel and jean. "y-yeah... you're probably right, but just in case, we should probably go find them. plus, tori's been gone a really long time. hopefully nothing has happened to her either." she headed out the door before the others, not really sure where to find the others.

kaila started walking in the direction of sanya's room. uriel wanted them both, so she would gather them. "we need to get sanya and then meet with uriel. she wanted the both of you to join us." she glanced over at gabriel as they walked and bit her lip as she began to fill him in on everything that happened with elena.

 

Kiel followed Schuyler and Jean as the two girls left. He had no idea how to find Tori, she could be anywhere. Hopefully Yves was looking out for her since he wasn't able to at the moment.

Gabriel stayed silent for the duration of the story and even afterwards. "I see.... Then Uriel wants vengence....no...retribution. She's thinking with Sanya and I along, the last Dark Hunter and Kadaj won't bother her while she deals with Elena...as for your job...I'm sure she's suspecting Kadaj to have enlisted someone else to help....or perhaps Lulu is still alive somehow."

 

kaila shook her head. she was the help. odds are he didn't need anyone else. she had already given him everything he wanted. the spell, her body for sacrifice. everyone was getting what they wanted. she pursed her lips and let out a sigh. "i'm sure he hasn't recruited anyone else. i've already given him everything he's asked for." it was hard to keep getting back up when everyone was taking what little bit was left of her for their own pleasure.

kingsley turned down the hall, seeing his sister along with her friends. "sky! there you are. i've been looking for you."

schuyler rolled her eyes, clearly not in the mood. "i don't have time kingsley, we need to find tori and the others." "oh, the seraph girl? i saw her running to the infirmary a little bit ago, when i went outside." there was a look of panic on her face and she glanced at kiel and jean. "kingsley i have to go." she picked up her pace and started moving through the hallway faster.

giselle glanced up at genesis sheepishly. they had been walking in silence for awhile and it was beginning to get a bit awkward. "where are we going?"

 

Gabriel frowned, "Hmmm...well I'm sure he's....well...I don't know..I simply don't know." They reached Sanya's door and flung it open without much regard for knocking. Sanya sat at her desk, swallowed in her huge chair, her nose in a mechanic's book. "Sanya, we have to go. Uriel has called us." She looked up slowly from the book to Kaila and then Gabriel, "You mean she needs us to deal with Kadaj.... Alright, I'll get my shoes." The short woman hopped down from her chair and stuffed her bare feet into a pair of ballet flats.

Kiel followed her, matching her pace but Jean fell behind. "C'mon Jean! Summer girls are supposed to be good at dancing, that's excercise." Jean panted behind him, "That's dancing not running!"

Genesis squeezed her hand lightly, inside his head he beat against Kyrios' spell but it fought back with tooth and nail. He never slowed or responded to her until the Hotel came into view. They'd gone around the town at a rapid pace and now Genesis was sweating, not with exertion, but over the inner struggle of power against his Seraph.

 

Kaila watched silently as sanya hopped into her shoes. once she was ready, they left the room. she walked in silence, contemplating what might happen. mostly, she worried about ren. what would become of them in the future? would they even have a future? it was all so unclear. nothing seemed like it would work out for her. it had all gone so horribly wrong, and it was only the first week of school. she didn't care anymore. there was no more energy to fight. kaila was just going through the motions. not even saving ren seemed worth the fate she was enduring.

tori walked out of the infirmary to get some air. her conversation with tristan really bothered her, and penny was still sleeping. she caught sight of schuyler, kiel, and what appeared to be jean trailing rather far behind. schuyler reached her first and started shaking tori vigorously. "What! ...what happened? is everyone okay?! tori brushed her friend off and sighed. everything was fine now, but barely. if it hadn't been for koyru, things would be a lot worse. "y-yeah, everything's fine. penny's just resting up is all." she saw the fear flash into schuyler's eyes. she obviously understood that in order for penny to be resting up, something had to have happened to him. her friend ran past her, bursting into the infirmary.

there he was. lying on the cot safe and sound, but why didn't it feel that way? why did it feel like something horrible happened? "penny!" schuyler rushed to his side, not caring that he may have been asleep. her body slammed down onto the cot beside him and she wrapped her arms around his shoulders. "what happened? her eyes connected angrily with tristan's who had been sitting nearby. she watched him walk away sheepishly to meet jean.

giselle ripped her hand away from genesis and stopped walking. one look at the building nearby and she put two and two together. it didn't make any sense."if you just told me not to come here with you, why would you drag me here?" giselle turned back in the direction they came and started walking again. she didn't understand how anyone could be that stupid and childlike. it was her foolishness, however, that allowed him to bring her so close to the place that he urged her not to go to.

 

Gabriel and Sanya walked behind Kaila quietly until they passed by the back entrance to the school. Sanya stopped and pointed one thin finger out the glass doors, "There's Uriel....and Kadaj. Gabe, Kaila, let's go!" Sanya burst through the doors and to Uriel's side faster than Gabriel could open the doors. "I see you're still as eager as ever, Sanya." Gabriel took up a solid stance beside Sanya and the young woman's face dropped to Kadaj's feet.

Kiel rested against the infermary doors as Jean and Schuyler reunited with everyone else. "I'm glad you're alright. When Professor Camponella told us something had happened, I'd thought the worst." In his hand, he still gripped the rather bulky black sword. "So Penny got himself hurt, huh? He shouldn't have left in the first place."

Penny jerked awake and groaned, "Ah geez...Schuyler? H-hey..."

Genesis grabbed frantically at her hand, his fingers convulsing around hers. "I know what I said before. And I meant it...but....y-you have to come with me." Tension forced him to shiver and his breath stopped for a moment. Everything in him stopped for a moment, the breifest minutes.

 

kaila set a hand on top of sanya's head, patting her hair. her eyes narrowed on kadaj. "there's nothing to be ashamed of sanya. you don't have to put up with the way he speaks to you." there was a scowl on her face as she eyed kadaj. seeing him was on the bottom of her terrible to-do list.

she set one hand delicately on the one kiel had holding his sword. there was no reason to be on edge anymore. the teachers already had it covered. "they wouldn't have left if you and genesis didn't spend all your time bickering. honestly, the two of you are impossible. you're just like a couple of hamsters or beta fish... or... hmm.... i'm out of comparisons, but you get the picture, right?" she wrapped her arms around kiel, giving him a hug. "i told you i can protect myself. you shouldn't worry so much."

tristan wrapped an arm around jean's waist smiling. he gave her a kiss on the temple and glanced back over at schuyler and penny. "did you have fun with the other girls?"

schuyler was shaking penny's shoulders vigorously, even after he responded. "what happened to you?" she was angry and upset at the same time. nobody had informed her he was in trouble, or injured. she couldn't really see anything wrong with him, but his clothes were covered in blood. something happened, something bad. her eyes were wide and she started tearing up. schuyler let go of his shoulders and turned away.

giselle continued to face the direction they came. turning back to look at genesis would just make things harder. she pulled her hand free again. "genesis, what's going on with you? i don't understand and the only way you're going to get me inside is by force." she started walking again, but not in the direction of the school. she was headed home.

 

Sanya shook her head under Kaila's hand, "I just...I..." Kadaj, for once, lifted his hand to stop her words, "I apologize. Anyway, you called me here, what for? I've kept up my end of the bargain, Kaila. Why should Uriel need to call me." Uriel drew a long katana from the air, "Elena has betrayed us. She's on your side isn't she?! Why did you instruct her to try to kill one of the humans." Kadaj opened his mouth to protest and Uriel's wings flared to view, lifted high over her head and shining, "Enough excuses, Kadaj! The truth!" Kadaj's green eyes narrowed on her and passed over everyone else's faces. "Elena is not apart of my little band of "evil-doers". Whatever she's done to deserve your wrath, I have no knowledge of it." He looked to Kaila, "So you took my advice. I never would've expected you to trust me so."

Kiel relaxed bit by bit and pulled away from her embrace. "I know....but there's something wrong with Genesis and I don't think it's just his personality. That boy has a bone to pick with whatever authority figure is causing him trouble."

Jean shrugged quietly, "It was going to be fun...until things started to happen. Genesis...was acting funny. Tristan, I'm worried about Giselle. She went with him, but...he didn't look well."

Penny sat up, reaching for her, "Whoa, whoa, whoa! Schuyler, what's wrong? I'm fine. There was...a bit of an accident, I was, err...stabbed I think. It's all kinda fuzzy. But Tori helped me. I don't remember much, but of that I'm sure."

Genesis' knees buckled and he dropped to the grass. He clawed at his chest as if he couldn't breathe. "G-Giselle! I can't... Stop this Kyrios, please." he whispered painfully.

 

kaila sighed and set her other hand on uriel's shoulder. she was apparently getting worked up for nothing. she patted her twice before responding to kadaj."i didn't. but it's hard to overlook the fact when i stumbled upon her attacking the humans. uriel, take a breather. fighting right now won't help anyone." she turned her back on everyone and started back towards the doors. "if we're done here, i have some unpleasant things to do for a couple of seraphim."

tori's expression grew grim. she dropped her gaze to kiel's sword and grimaced. "have i told you, that i can read minds? it's something i usually keep secret, because of the reactions it gives people. if it weren't for the telepathy, i never would have made it here. i wouldn't have survived." it wasn't really relevant, but it was leading up to what she had to say. tori didn't know everything that was going on with genesis, but she did have the gist of it. he was troubled, probably by kryios.

tristan shook his head. there wasn't anything they could do now. if they already left, there was no helping her. "i don't know what to tell you...if she already left, i don't know how to help."

schuyler crossed her arms, turning to face him again. she was glaring at him, but with tears in her eyes. "you... you need to be more careful. i don't know what we would have done if you..if you..." she shook her head and a few tears fell loose. i don't know what i would have done...

giselle wanted to stop. to turn back and comfort genesis. he seemed to be in so much pain, but she couldn't. he made her promise and she always kept her promises. she wasn't quite sure where exactly they were, but if she walked in the same direction they came from, she would eventually find her way home. "i'm sorry genesis. i made you a promise, and i'm keeping it. i'll...i'll see you later." it was a lie. giselle had no intentions of seeing any of them later. this was all too much.

 

Uriel flapped her wings, frustrated, and Kadaj sighed. It would appear to be nothing more than an angry stare down between the two.

Kiel watched Tori's emotions flit across her face. "I don't understand. If you can read minds...when I first met you, why didn't you out me?" Kiel knew his feelings for her were true and plain as day if he didn't hide them out of fear.

Penny smiled nervously, "Hey now...I didn't go looking for trouble. I was with Tristan. We were...trying to find you and the rest of the girls. That lady found us and attacked us. If you want to be mad at someone, be mad at Tristan. I'm pretty sure it's somehow his fault too. The stairs changed on us...wh-what am I supposed to do? Grow wings and fly like you?"

Genesis watched her walk away and a pressure tightened in his chest, sending him hands and knees onto the grass, one hand still clawing at his chest. "Giselle....run..." His single black wing flapped, lifting him into the sky even as his hands tore out handfuls of the grass and dirt. His right hand drew his sword and the other grasped the blade tightly in his fist as if to prevent it from moving. "I will not...hurt her... Kyrios stop it! You said....love her and lure her. You've made me do that. You cannot kill her!"

 

she stopped at the door, hesitating for a moment with her fingers resting neatly on the handle. "i hope everyone is satisfied. kadaj, by the time it's your turn to sacrifice me, there won't be much left to work with. all though, by that point in time, i think i'll be more then ready to die. and uriel... you better start learning about what's really going on in your school, before it's too late." kaila pulled open the door without taking the time to listen to anyone's responses. she had more important matters to attend to. first enan, and then kryios. ren would have to wait just a little bit longer. then, they could finally be together, at least for a brief period. one more hurdle for their long and troubled relationship.

tori cocked an eyebrow at him in confusion. "out you? whatever do you mean?" she could see the panic on his face and she figured it would be best to enlighten him a bit. tori gently placed a hand on his shoulder, smiling. "it's not like i'm consistently hearing everyone's thoughts. i've practiced it, a lot. it's about the only thing i have practiced. i can do it rather on command, versus wildly hearing everything anyone has to say. which is why i know that genesis is suffering as you plainly pointed out. kryios is the one making him suffer. i don't know why though. the guy isn't exactly on my list of people to hang out with." she leaned in to give kiel another kiss, but on the cheek. until he figured out what she found the most bothersome, there wouldn't be any more on the lips.

schuyler narrowed her eyes at penny a little more defensively. "don't blame this on tristan. no offense, but you seem to be a lot more impulsive than him. you could have tried. i don't know, maybe you're actually a secret angel or something. probably not...but you could have tried. for my sake. i already almost lost my brother. i don't want to lose you too." the tears rolled down her cheeks as she slammed one of her fists into his shoulder.

giselle couldn't fight it any longer. genesis was shouting like crazy and she knew he needed her help. she turned around, appalled by what she saw. he was flying, but it looked like he was fighting something, or someone. genesis looked like he was trying to stop himself and that just made it worse. her heart ached and she wretched herself out of the spot she was in, moving quickly back to him. "genesis stop! you'll be okay. just fight it. don't let whatever is hurting you take control of yourself. i believe in you. you were there for me when i thought no one would ever come. you saved me, and i'm grateful. don't give up trying." she ran closer to him and wrapped her arms around his rising body.

 

Kiel fumbled with his sword, "Ah well...I just...I thought if you could read minds and well..It's not that I'm trying to hide it or anything but... I've only known you for a week now...and it would be a bit...kinda strange to be admitting that I...eh..." His face started to turn a bright pink, "I'm just relieved...err...no that's not it...but it would be so much easier if you had read my mind...n-not that I don't want to say it...I just...am not very good at things like this." He shut his eyes and buried his face in his hands.

Penny lowered his head to his chest. He couldn't bear to watch Schuyler cry. "I'm sorry...you're right. I should be more careful. But watching a teacher come at me with a knife...was a little unnerving. I didn't know what to do. I'm not...good at this sort of stuff....like at all."

Genesis' eyes widened as she hugged him and his sword fell to the ground. His hand was bleeding, his glove torn from gripping the blade so tightly. Kyrios' spell receeded in intensity the closer she got to him. "I told you...to run. I can't protect you like this. I'm your worst enemy right now." Kyrios held his tongue, preventing him from saying more.

 

tori let out a small chuckle and embraced kiel in a hug. "why are you so nervous? You already said it once remember? Relax. There's nothing to be worked up about." she brushed her fingers through his hair and gave kiel another kiss on the cheek before heading back into the infirmary.

schuyler wiped at her cheeks vigorously and then buried her face in his chest. "just...just try harder next time." she clasped his face between her palms and pressed her lips firmly to his. Schuyler wasn't ready to deal with more loss and she was just thankful he was still here.

giselle shook her head, not letting go of him. "it doesn't seem like you're fit to protect me at all. Let me help genesis. Please... What can I do?" she grabbed hold of his hand and ripped the glove off it. Giselle tore the bottom of the dress free and wrapped it quickly around his hand.

kaila entered her room and pulled out a cloak from the closet. If she was supposed to go to town and fetch a human, her wings couldn't be exposed. The cloak was enchanted and once she put it on, her wings disappeared. It would be a lot easier if she wasn't drawing a lot of attention. She let the hood rest on her shoulders and her hair hung loosely around her face.

 

Kiel watched her walk away, quietly protesting under his breath. "I told you before that...I liked you...but...I was lying. I-I love you Tori... But who am I kidding...I shouldn't be saying those kinds of things when I'm not even sure if we're going to live through the school year."

Penny's eyes widened when Schuyler kissed him. It was strange for a girl to affect him so. Was it...because she was an angel? No...there was so much more...but words to describe it just don't seem right. Relaxing, he held her to him.

Genesis stared at his makeshift bandage. "A spell....Kyrios wants...you to give your energy to the Dark Court... He wants you to go to the Hotel...and be absorbed by the members.... I...I have no choice. What can...one angel do against a Seraph of the Dark Court? That's why...you go...back to the school. I'll handle this. I'll tell him all deals are off...just...so you don't have to experience that kind of torture."
