Angelic Divinity

kaila collapsed onto her knees sobbing again.
"i...i didn't want him to suffer again. Not like before...even if we stop kadaj...michael...michael's taking away my powers and my wings. I didn't want him to go through the pains of being with a mortal again."
She buried her face in her hands.
"i was trying to save him...even though I can't save myself."

tristan froze and his arm dropped to his side. Jean had saw them and immediately misunderstood.
"jean...it was...a joke..."
He wanted to run after her, to bring her back, and make her stop crying, but his legs wouldn't move. He just stood there helpless, staring afyer her.
"jean..."

 

Enan sighed, "We can't always save those we love. Ren...has been doomed since the day he rose to his state of power and followed his human into the Dark Court. No...even before then. Meeting Yuukki was only the middle of his downfall. He started falling...when he set foot in Heaven's ballroom that first day. The day he learned to smile...the day he met you...all of them...came after he'd started falling. No one can save Ren. He is Raphael in his heart and Ren by name only."

Jean kept running, even after she tripped several times and scraped up her knees and palms. How could he? He lied to me... I trusted him...I loved him! An angel...it always goes back to those stupid angels!

Gabriel ran a hand through his hair and started after the girl. "Tristan, my friend...perhaps next time you'll be going after her? Oh, and Tori...be sure to control your human of your court. I can't have him off running around with every summer girl and angel and then breaking their hearts."

 

kaila collapsed into enan's arms and buried her face in his shoulder.
"it's not fair. I have given everyone what they wanted from me with no regard to what I want. I've never once doubt my faith in Father, but it's getting hard to believe he has anything good planned for me. Unless I have to have everything I care about ripped from me in order for everyone else to have peace. It doesn't seem right."
She wrapped her arms around him. Kaila now regretted turning down enan's offers to join the winter court.

"i...i'm going after her now. Not some other time."
Tristan broke out into a running stride before anyone could protest. He ran after her, stumbling a few times.
"jean! Jean wait! It wasn't what it looked like."
He caught up to her, panting, and grabbed her arm.
"jean! Please listen. it wasn't like that. You know how I feel about you. My arm was only around schuyler as a joke to make penny made because she didn't like the way he was treating her. That's all. I like you jean. No one else."
Tristan wrapped his arms tightly around her so that she couldn't leave. He didn't want to lose another person.

tori looked up at her teacher harshly.
"MY human was not the one causing problems. Tristan was only trying to make schuyler feel better, no ill intentions. It was just a misunderstanding."
She nudged kiel lightly with her elbow.
"will you go get them? Before something bad happens."

 

Enan stayed silent. He couldn't go behind Micheal's back and tell her her own destiny. It was wrong and against Divine Law. "Kaila...don't give up so easily. Tell me what would make you happy."

Jean struggled against him, "I don't believe you! Everyone always prefers angels! Summer girls are just..." she started to sob, "We're just not good enough. We don't have wings...we can't do magic...all we're good for is a one night fling."

Kiel moved immediately and headed after Tristan, passing by Gabriel.

Gabriel stopped short, "You think...that Tristan isn't your responsibility? Tristan is under your Court now Tori. If you're unwilling to uphold the full tasks of being the High Court Seraph then perhaps you should step down." Uriel cast him a glare and he stepped aside as she nudged him away, "Enough. Tori will become a more than capable Seraph once she's learned everything. Tori...we do not doubt you as our Seraph. I'm sure Gabriel is mearly peeved that his son does not accept him."

 

"to not be mortal. It would fix everything."
kaila sighed and nuzzled her face into his chest. Enan was good to her even when she wasn't in return.

"i mean it jean! I like you. Not schuyler. I only want you. You're perfect the way you are. I like that you're human. That you don't have magic or wings. I don't have them. We're the same. I wouldn't gave been with you if I didn't want you. Schuyler's just a friend. It wasn't meant to hurt you. I like you."
He loosened his grip on her so that it was caring not confining. Tristan gave her a kiss on the top of her head.

tori glared at gabriel angrily.
"i am aware that he is my responsibility. I never said he wasn't. I said he didn't start it. I'm sure that's playing a large part of it too."

 

Enan stroked the back of her head, "Micheal's sentences cannot be reversed. But you can right what's happened to Ren. Save him, Kaila. Even if I don't like it. Don't put him through Kyrios' rule again. When he's willing like this in his court, he's going to die this time."

Jean's body shook with sobs. She couldn't force her protests past her lips anymore.

Gabriel and Uriel glanced at each other and bowed to Tori, "As you wish, Seraph Tori."

 

kaila pulled her head away from enan's chest to look at him.
"you're a good person and you'll always be my favorite. I promise i'll help you with your experiment."
She gave the seraph a kiss on the cheek and closed her eyes. When she opened them again, she was sitting on ren's bedroom floor.

tristan held jean close to him and stroked the back of her head.
"jean I mean it. Please stop crying. I don't want to see you sad. You have an incredible smile that shouldn't be wasted. Do you really believe I don't like you?"

tori sighed and stared down at her dirty dress. She didn't get a chance to change out of it before class.
"can we just...start the lesson please?"
She walked over to schuyler and giselle awkwardly.

 

Ren's room was even more cluttered with random things than before. Ren, himself, lie curled up in a tight ball on his bed. His eyes were open and blankly staring at the far wall.

Jean wiped at her tears, "I believe you would choose your affection for an angel over me. Angels are always chosen over Summer girls."

Gabriel stepped back and let Uriel resume teaching.

 

kaila took a deep breath before standing. She walked quietly through the dark cluttered room and sat down at the edge of ren's bed. Her heart was pounding as she set a hand on ren's side.
"i wanted to keep you from getting hurt, but you turned to kryios. I didn't want to make you go through the pain of being with another human."
She talked to the floor. If she looked at ren and how broken he was, she wouldn't be able to get the words out.
"you believed me so easily...all i've wanted for years is to be with you, and yet you believed me without a doubt that I didn't. Ren I love you. Michael is taking away my wings and powers for giving kadaj the spell. And kadaj intends on using me as the required sacrifice for the spell. I lied to you so that you wouldn't be involved.
She rubbed his side shakily without looking. It was taking all her might to keep from crying, but the tears were slowly startinf to spill out.

tristan shook his head and gave her a kiss on the forehead.
"i don't have affection for an angel. The only person I care about is you. How can I prove it to you? It wasn't just about sex. I even offered to wait."
He kept stroking the back of her head and her back. He felt awful and didn't know how to make jean believe in him. She was the only thing good to happen to him lately.

 

"Sure." Allen replied before grabbing a lance and following the other.

"Looks like where partners." Sora said before he left.

"I guess so." Shane replied as he followed behind him.

 

Ren slowly slid his blank eyes to her and mumbled, "Kaila...Camponella.... My pretty...angel..." He slowly reached up to wipe a tear from her cheek and took a shaky breath. Under Kaila's hand his muscles twitched.

Jean blinked rapidly and made a determined face. She reached up and pulled his head down to hers, kissing him firmly, "I know....I'll make you forget her. I...I can do that."

 

kaila's heart sank when she saw just how badly she had hurt ren. She laid down next to him and wrapped her arms around his chest.
"i'm sorry ren. I really am. I just wanted to protect you from the doom i'm encouring. I love you so much. I hope you'll forgive me someday."
she kissed the back of his head and buried her face between his wings.

tristan frowned at jean. she was trying so hard for no reason. He didn't understand why it was so hard to believe that he could possibly only have feelings for her.
"there's no one to make me forget about. You're the only person i've even looked at like that."
He leaned down for another kiss, but it only made him feel guilty. He hadn't realized how selfconscious jean was.

 

Ren buried his face in his bed and shut his eyes as the door flew open and Kyrios glowered at Kaila, "I should have figured you'd come back for him. You never could just leave Raphael alone! Get away from him." In response to Kryios' words a burning red mark glowed harshly under his clothes and he squirmed away from her, weak cries of pain emitting from between his lips. "See? You do nothing but hurt him."

Jean kept kissing him hard. Her fingers shakily undoing his jeans. Releasing his mouth, she dropped to her knees before him.

 

kaila sat up facing kryios and held her arms out defensively protecting ren.
"no! I'm not the one hurting him, you are! You're mad that he was standing up to you, one less puppet to control. I'm not going to let you treat him like this."
She stared the seraphim down.

tristan's eyes were wide as he realized what jean was about to do. It excited him, but he knew it would gelp the situation and someone might see. He blocked her head with his hand and lifted her chin up to see her eyes.
"jean, you don't have to. You're the only one I see and I should be proving to it to you. Not the other way around."
He knelt down so they were at the same eye level.

 

Kyrios glowered at her, "We shall see who hurts him more. Have I done Raphael any physical harm? No. Have I done him emotional harm? No." he lied, "Have I done him mental harm? No, again." he lied again.

Jean hiccuped, "But angels won't do that for their lovers...they call it dirty. I...I don't care. I just..." "Jean!? Tristan! There you two are! Jeez, you're going to get Tori into an awkward position. Uh...what's going on here?" Kiel stopped a few feet away from the couple and eyed Tristan's unbuckled jeans and their kneeling state. "You two alright?"

 

kaila gritted her teeth and stood in front of the bed. Her wings spread wide, keeping ren behind her.
"you're lying! You have done every one of those things. He didn't even want to join your court! You forced him against his will. I bet you wouldn't know how to tell the truth if your life depended on it. If it wasn't for you, he probably wouldn't have been in all that pain before I came into the picture. I'm not afraid of you."
She kept her arms out defensively in front of her wings. The more space she could put between ren and kryios the better.

tristan's face turned red at the sound of kiel's voice. It was a good thing he stopped jean from continuing.
"y-yeah. Everything's fine. Be there in a minute."
He redid his pants and gave jean a kiss before standing. Tristan held his hand out to her smiling.
"you're the only one. I promise."

 

Kyrios snarled, his golden eyes flashing as his six midnight black wings spread wide and Nana slithered out from under his robes at his neck. "You'd best watch your tongue, little girl. And you should be afraid of me. Micheal may be our older brother, but his powers granted to him by Father pales compared to mine. His rank keeps him below me and thus I have more authority than he does."

Jean accepted his hand and stood. Her large doe eyes glistened with emotion. The corner of Kiel's mouth turned up as he watched them. It was odd how those two had developed such a relationship so quickly, but from their body language, Kiel could guess what Penny was getting at by asking about when Tristan had disappeared off to his room. Sighing, he shook his head, "Alright, love-birds, time to head back. Tori may be the Seraphim of the High Court but she doesn't have the teachers enlisted in it as devoted followers just yet. C'mon Tristan, combat does not wait patiently."

 

kaila crossed her arms amd rolled her chocolate brown eyes. She was hoping that by being impassive would set him off completely.
"are you quite finished yet? You can stand there and try to intimidate me and flash your stupid python at me all you want, but my resolve will not change. I don't fear you kryios. You may terrify everyone else, but I will not be pushed over by you. Do your worst. I dare you."
Her eyes did not leave his. She wouldn't let him break her. It's pretty hard to crush something that's been shattered into a million pieces and she was already so broken to begin with. Protecting ren was the only thing that mattered to her anymore.

tristan nodded and pulled jean up, keeping her close to him as they walked back.
"so what were you trying to do with genesis and that girl. What was her name? Giselle right? Ya' know I have gone to that school my entire life and have never once seen her."
He kept trying to think of a time he might have seen her, but was coming up blank.

tori was working with giselle and easily dodging every arrow sent at her. She could have taken the human out by now, but was giving her a chance to try. Her posture was sloppy, she wasn't holding onto the string at the right level, and it looked like her hands were shaking. Tori sighed and held the tip of her sword down, picking up stray arrows as she walked over to giselle. She handed her the arrows and shook her head.
"it takes confidence. Stand up straight, keep the string drawn back at eye level, and you have to stop shaking. It makes your shooting messy and more likely to hurt yourself."
She traded her the sword and handful of arrows for the bow. Tori stood there silently demonstrating how to do it properly. She had archery lessons when she was a kid and shot an arrow to the right of gabriel.
"see? Like that."

 

Kyrios opened his mouth to say more, Nana hissing at her when Ren sat up and stood, heading towards the door. Kryios grabbed his shoulder and he held up the pulsating pocket watch. "I have to go. Small, minor attack on the Southern barrier..." he glanced at Kaila and the hint of a smile crossed his lips, "I shall return. Thank you for coming...Kaila Camponella." Kyrios watched him leave and slid his eyes to her, "What have you done to him? How can he remember your name?"

Kiel sighed, rubbing the back of his head, "I was trying to get a rise out of the girl. Genesis needs someone to defend him if he's going to lay down and play dead. The stupid guy needs to know someone cares for him. That's all I was trying to do...and instead I get reprimanded by Tori. Well that's the last time I try to help someone else." Throwing up his hands, Kiel growled under his breath, "I'd rather stand on the sidelines beside Tori and keep my mouth shut."

Genesis watched silently, blinking slowly he slid to the ground and cradled his sword in his lap.

Gabriel frowned at Tori, "Miss Seraph, would you mind watching where you're aiming? I'd rather not go back to the infirmery with an arrow in my shoulder."

 

kaila smiled smuggly.
"apparently ren's love for me is greater than the magic you used to drain him. I will turn him back to normal. He won't be your puppet ever again.
She walked passed him to head out the door after ren.

tristan thought about what happened earlier and shrugged.
"maybe she doesn't like him. Or you didn't try hard enough. Beats me."
he kissed jean's temple, reminding her of how he feels.

tori returned gabriel's frown with a smile.
"i was watching. The arrow went exactly where I intended it to."
She was skating on thin ice. She may be the seraph, but she is still a student. Tori figured she would be punished, but didn't care. She traded the bow back for her sword and nudged giselle reassuringly.
"you can do it. I'm sure you can."
