Sora, Shane and Allen soon followed behind the others.

 

kaila laid on the floor of her classroom, wrapped up in her shawl. Telling ren they couldb't be together was the hardest thing she ever had to do. She waited all those years for him and to see him believe her so easily felt like someone ran a knife,through her chest. Of course she wanted to be with him, but having him standby and watch her become human wasn't exceptable and then to see her give up her life to kadaj as sacrifice afterwards. She just couldn't. If kaila managed to survive she wouldn't want to put him through rhe pain of being with another human being. Everyone got what they wanted from her. There was nothing left to give. She couldn't move, but she had to keep going through the people on her list. Her words were whispers, but she knew he'd find her eventually anyway.
"enan...i know you're here. In the school...we need...to talk..."
She sat up, lightheaded and dirty. Tears were still pouring out even though she kept wiping at them.

tori gave kiel a kiss on the cheek as they entered the classroom.
"i wont let anything happen to you. I promise."
She took her arm off his waist and slid her hand down to his. tori gave it a comforting squeeze.

 

"Ren broke into Uriel's room and curled up in her bed. "What...what's happening? I don't understand...anymore. Master Kyrios...why...?" Kyrios smirked, poking his head into Uriel's room. "That's the first time I've heard you call me Master again since Yuukki died. I'm glad to have my good boy, Rapheal back." He watched Ren curl tighter into a ball and grinned at his reaction to his Archangel name given to him by his father.

Kiel smiled at her and led her to her seat, taking one beside her, watching Uriel mark down something on a clipboard.

Enan curiously watched Ren walk away from Kaila's room. She obviously had come to her senses as he heard her calling for him. Pushing his way into her classroom, Enan came up short at her expression.

 

kaila looked up at enan sniffling.
"you...you got here fast. Were you lurking again?"
She wiped at her face. Her nosed was stuffed up and her eyes were red and puffy. She felt like a mess and probably looked the same way. Kaila pulled herself up off the floor and attempted a messy smile. Seeing enan always made her feel better.

tori sat down smiling. She felt better, but her mind kept tugging her back to earlier. She needed to do something, but her professor made it pretty clear that no one was to speak a word.

schuyler sat down by giselle, not looking at penny. She felt like making him squirm for a little while. She didn't find his behavior appropriate and he was to know that. Schuyler motioned for tristan to sit on the other side of her.

 

Kyrios crooned to Ren, stroking his hair like a little boy and smiled devilishly. "That's my good boy. Soon...we won't have to worry about them anymore. I'm going to fix everything. Including that chit you called a decent woman that you had feelings for. Soon...very soon, I'll make them see why Yves was leading them down the oblivious path. I'll make them see the truth behind his words and they'll thank me for it."

Enan smiled, regaining his composure. She had come to her senses and chosen him over that boy. "My dear, I'd hardly call it lurking. I was making sure you were alright. That boy did not seem like the kind of man to treat you well. I see you finally saw that." He held his hand out to her, fully expecting her to come to him.

Kiel closed his eyes briefly and Uriel's voice broke into his peaceful thoughts, "As you know...all classes will be devoted to teaching you how to defend yourselves against Kadaj in the upcoming battle... As much as I hate to do this to you all... It's time we work on your individual skills." A variety of weapons lazily flew out of a closet and hovered in front of her, "Choose what you are familiar with."

Penny cast longing glances at Schuyler from beside Kiel. He hadn't wanted to upset her, but his curiosity had gotten the better of him. He had to suppress a whimper as the professor, a short woman with brown hair and fierce brown eyes began class.

 

kaila hesitated. She hadn't chose enan over ren. His arrival and ren's departure were supposed to be two uncoralated events. She had to supress another waves of sobs. Kaila took his hand and stepped into his arms. For being the seraphim of the winter court he felt warm and inviting.
"i'm sorry. It's not that. I had to end things with ren. I...had no choice. I'm sorry if I gave you the wrong idea. I just...i just needed to talk to you. Before it was too late..."
She wanted to disappear in enan's arms. To close her eyes and go poof, only to open them and find herself somewhere no one could ever find or hurt her.

tori looked over at kiel confused.
"are we supposed to...just go up there?"
She eyed the weapons that were in front of the teacher unsure.

schuyler stood silently and walked to the front of the room. She picked a pair of knives and stood waiting in front of her teacher for instruction.
"professor?"

tristan watched schuyler and raised an eyebrow at the others.
"she's brave."

 

Enan shushed her and held her close, "Then talk my dear. No one's going to bother us."

Kiel stood after Schuyler and firmly grabbed a sword. Genesis hefted his red sword up and touched the tip to Kiel's. "Ready?" He nodded and Uriel slapped their swords down with a heavy looking broadsword of her own, "No fighting in my classroom. As you've chosen your weapons, you'll have to get used to them within the next few days. I want you all to pick a sparring partner."

 

Sora soon picked up a short sword. "Now I'll I need is a partner." He said.

Shane followed behind Sora and chose a broadsword as his weapon.

 

kaila kept her head pressed to enan's chest and talked into his shirt.
"i need to know what you want me to do in your experiment. It has to be done quickly or I wont be able to help. And also...i have a student for you. If you still need one. I know you asked me to choose."
She breathed in his scent and relaxed a little. Her heart rate slowed back to normal and her legs weren't so shaky anymore.

schuyler walked back to her seat with the four-inch daggers and pointed one at penny.
"go pick something and then i'll be your partner."
Her face was still void of emotion, but she was now excited to show penny up for his behavior.

tristan wished he would have brought his sword down from his room. He just got it and he wasn't even using it. Tomorrow he'd have to remember it. Tristan selected a sword similar in size to the one gabriel had given him and he looked over at allen.
"it's allen right? You wanna be my partner?"

tori walked up front, seeing giselle stand there in confusion. She put an arm around the human girl's shoulder and helped her select something she would be best at.
"hey, just relax. You want something you'll feel comfortable with."
She picked up a medium sword for herself.

giselle stared at the weapons in confusion.
"i don't know what i'd be comfortable with. I've...i've never done anything like this."
She seemed to be the one dealing with all of this the worst.

 

Enan nodded and pressed a cold kiss to her forehead before moving away from her and drawing out a large diagram. "What I'd planned to do was take a human that was dubbed special and infuse in their body essence of each Court. It would enhance their abilities and probably give them a leg up against Demise and Kadaj."

Penny gaped openly at Schuyler. "You're kidding right? Schuyler..." he didn't have time to make an excuse as Uriel chucked what looked like a monk's staff at him, complete with brass rings attatched at the top. "This is insane!"

Kiel and Genesis shrugged and chuckled at Penny, rewarding them a glare from Uriel as she walked over to Giselle and touched a warm hand to her shoulder, Close your eyes...and let your heart choose. Don't try to link it with what you've done before. This is the start of your new life. The choosing of your weapon will set you free."

 

kaila studied the diagram and then looked back up at enan.
"that's some serious magic. And what do you need me to do?"
Her mind ran through the faces of each of the chosen humans. She thought about which one would be best.

schuyler supressed the urge to laugh.
"what's so insane about it? Big strong man like you can't take on a little girl like me?"
She poked him in the chest.

giselle closed her eyes and reached out in front of herself. She fingers wrapped around something curved. Her eyes opened, revealing a bow and picked it up awkwardly.
"so...partners?"
She looked at tori unsure of herself.

tori smiled and nodded.
"absolutely. It looks like those two could use some alone time anyway."
She nodded her head in the direction of kiel and genesis.
"genesis, i'd apreciate it if you didn't steal kiel from me."

 

Enan exhaled slowly, "I need a normal human to test this on first. I'd hate to ruin our chance of success by breaking one of our special humans. Yves hand-picked them...and I don't doubt his choice...but I want to make things easier for them. I need you to lure a normal human to an isolated warehouse at the edge of town. I'll be waiting there."

Penny pursed his lips, "I don't think it's a matter of I can't take you...it's more of a matter of all the ways I'd rather take you than in a fight." He stood and circled her, patting her rear as he moved.

Genesis growled at Tori until Kiel shot him a cold glare, "I'm not stealing anyone...I wouldn't want a guy. I don't swing that way. Plus I..." his blue gaze flicked to Giselle for a moment, "Happen to already have a girlfriend." Kiel shrugged and rolled his eyes, "Sure ya do, buddy." And thus started their bickering again about how Genesis wasn't his buddy.

 

kaila sat down at a desk and rested her head in her hand.
"i...i don't think I can...i've already hurt a lot of people ...and if it doesn't work...that's one more. I can't..."
She started to nreak down again in the chair.

schuyler's eyes were wide and she had another twitch of anger. She didn't appreciate the way he had been treating her and it was getting rather annoying.
"knock it off."
She sat down and twirled one of the knives between her fingers.

tori rolled her eyes and grabbed kiel's arm, pulling him back to the chair.
"why are you guys acting like little kids?"

giselle dropped her gaze and carried the bow back to her seat. Earlier he said that he fit for relationships and now he said he had a girlfriend.
i wonder who she is.

 

Enan came up behind her and pulled her back against his chest, "You needn't worry about hurting humans. They're disposable. All I need is one...one out of the billions that live on this earth. Please, Kaila...do this for me...for our future."

Penny smirked and leaned over her, "What's the matter, babe? Not up for a bit of excercise?" Uriel cleared her throat to get Schuyler's attention, "His abilities lie not in combat, Schuyler. Penny...as he likes to be called...is provoking you on a different level than you were taught. Why don't we all go outside and begin."

Kiel smiled at Tori, "And here I thought we were acting like adults. My mistake. It's not my fault this guy is lying to himself. Girlfriend...that's funny. Genesis you couldn't get a girl to like you if you took a bullet for them." He winked at Tori and mouthed, 'I know what I'm doing.'

Genesis' black wing drooped to the floor. "True...girls aren't fond of me..." his shoulders drooped and his blue eyes glittered with pain. Kiel immediately regretted his words but waited for a few seconds to give Giselle a chance.

 

kaila jerked away from enan's chest.
"i don't have a future! I have no future and humans aren't expendable. They have people that care for them just as us. I can't take away someone else's future."
She stood and started pacing around the room. All kaila wanted was a moment of peace before she had to join the humans and then die.

"i know what he's referring too."
She stood glaring at penny. He was talking to and about her like a piece of meat. Schuyler debated throwing a knive into penny's groin. It took all her willpower to keep from doing it.

when giselle stood and didn't say anything, tori smacked kiel in the back of the head. She whispered to him angrily.
"look what you did? Way to go."
Whatever genesis and giselle had going on, kiel had pretty much ruined it, at least for a little while.

giselle walked to the door, staring at the bow. She didn't know what she was doing or how she could possibly compare to everyone else.

 

Enan glowered at her before the door blew open and he jerked around to meet Kyrios' happy grin and sparkling yellow eyes. "Why are you so happy?" He cast a look to Kaila and his grin grew bigger, "I have exactly what I want now. So now...brother, I'd like you to cease this nonesense talk about experimenting to make the humans better. We angels can handle this on our own. We're Seraphim...of course we can handle Kadaj before he summons Demise."

Penny didn't move and Uriel grabbed his ear, pulling him towards the door after Giselle and motioned for the others to follow.

Kiel sighed and rubbed the back of his head, "I guess I didn't really help.... But, Tori...Genesis is so damn quiet and always self-loathing. I thought I'd perk them both up with a little argument." He watched Genesis scramble out after Giselle, trying to keep her in his sight. "He's taking his protective duties too seriously..."

 

kaila stopped pacing when kryios came blasting into her room. He obviously knew about den if he was so pleased and her heart again.
"kryios. I'm so glad I could give you what you wanted."
She spat the words out and they sounded foreign coming from her mouth.
"you have no reason to be in my classroom. You already have what you want afterall. Since i'm a giver."
She was the only one left without something she wanted.

tori rolled her eyes, but then thought about the infirmary again and what happened last night.
"maybe you should be taking it more seriously. They're here for a reason, because they were in danger. And pretty soon we'll all be in danger."
She walked up to schuyler as the left the classroom, leaving kiel behind her.

"men. Stupid jerks. Right now i'd rather stab him then protect him."
Schuyler watched tori nod agreeingly and tristan hurried over to them. She rolled her eyes.

"we're not all jerks. I think i've been very gentlemenly today, unlike wingy, copper, and...and...well I don't have a good nickname for your boyfriend yet, but i'll come up with one."
He listened to the laugh and was glad he could make them smile.

 

Kyrios smiled at her, "Yes, yes...thank you for returning Raphael to me. I've missed him terribly since that incident with Yuukki...silly human girl."

Enan growled at his brother, "What have you done, Sitnah! Raphael...you mean Ren. He hated that name. You....why would you do that to him again?" Kyrios continued to smile.

Kiel and Penny exchanged glances and sighed. "Women... I'll never understand them...but then again...I don't think Tori fully understands the type of motivation Genesis needs... C'mon, before we're left behind." He dragged Penny behind him and followed the group.

Jean pounced on Gabriel and squealed with delight as he hefted her up onto his shoulders and took off into the sky. He didn't understand why she liked flying, but it did feel liberating to be able to soar through the clouds.

 

it was getting hard to swallow and kaila was afraid she was going to throw up. Her body was shaking all over and her heart was pounding.
"kryios, if you don't need anything else from me...i'd greatly appreciate it if you left."
Her saliva became warm and she rushed over to a wastebasket just in time to vomit. She heaved a couple times before finally peeling herself away from the trash and wiping her face.

tori walked passed genesis and over to giselle.
"hey, are you okay?"

giselle looked up, seeing tori by her side again.
"yeah, um...why?"
Truthfully she was disappointed, but she had no desire to admit it.

"no reason. Do you wanna hang out with schuyler and I later? It'd probably do all of us some good to get away from the guys."
She watched giselle think about it for a moment and then nod once.

"ya' know what would really get under penny's skin?"
Tristan noticed schuyler raise an eyebrow curiously and he wrapped his arm around her back.

 

Enan rushed to her side, brushed cooling fingers across her forehead, "Leave, Kyrios! You're not helping!" Kryios shrugged and left them. He was still humming happily as he wandered back to Uriel's room. He needed to get Ren back to his room to recover.

Uriel led the students outside. She relaxed as the sunlight hit her and Gabriel landed with Jean.

Penny felt a shiver of jealousy climb up his spine and lodge itself in his chest. Before he could act though, the girl with brown hair and wide brown eyes glanced their way and she seemed to freeze in her place. Her eyes filled with tears. The man behind her, Gabriel, touched her shoulder and she flinched, causing the tears to spill down her cheeks. Turning on her sandaled feet, she ran from the group and into the woods.

"Ah! Jeanie! Where are you going!?" Gabriel didn't understand the girl. One minute she was laughing and the next crying and running away. He looked back to Uriel's class and lifted an eyebrow at Tristan and Schuyler. Odd...
